  • Re: Helmets

Hi everyone. Recently bought 2 studds shifter helmet for me and my dad. Budget was 5k in total. Are they worth the money? Any tips on how to preserve the visors transparency? Also, the helmet fits tight though the head size is measured and corresponding size was chosen before purchase. Do helmets take time to adjust to our face? Is it normal?

It's a pretty good helmet at a reasonable price and it's definitely worth it . Couple of my friends are using it and they told me it's a good VFM helmet. Is it too tight ?? Helmets are suppose be tight , especially in the cheek areas.

Wearing and removing is little difficult but after fitting, it's really good. It's slightly tight around the cheeks and that's it. So I suppose its normal then. Any tips on maintaining the visor bro?

Well I don't know much about visor care but it's good to use a glass shiner for visor cleaning.

The only tip i can give is not to clean the visor too often. During day time you can see even if the visor is dirty. Clean it only for night rides. Visor get scratched mostly while cleaning. Not sure how effective the tip is . Saw it on youtube. But it should work well when you think about it. Thoughts????

@John P Daniel : Helmets are meant to be tight near jaw area. yes it will take some time to get accustomed to.
Regarding cleaning visors, best is to take micro fiber cloth, soak it in water and keep it over the visor for few minutes. Then just take it off and wipe the visor with another dry micro fiber cloth or tissue paper.

How safe are full faced offroad/motocross helmets (like below) when compared to regular full faced helmets?

                http://www.vegaauto.com/Helmets/Off-Road-Helmet/VEGA-OFF-ROAD-RANGER-BLACK-BASE-WITH-GOLD-GRAPHIC-HELMET

I am looking for a stylishly designed along with safety, regular helmets looked a bit boring in terms of shape/design or too flashy in terms of graphics.

And what about comfort when both are compared?

fakes are a part of every product, right from Louis Vuitton to apple iphones, and now to helmets such as LS2 AGV and even riding gear from Alpinestars and other brands, but that doesnt stop a prospective buyer from buying a particular brand,to sum it up mostly products which are commercially successful have duplication at a faster rate, its better to buy from representatives of a particular company directly and one is assured of genuine stuff.LS2 helmets have been in the market since a long time hence their duplication is the max when it comes to other brands,i won`t be surprised to see a duplicate MT helmet in the near future as its popularity is growing. But that wont stop us from buying MT right?

I am going to get my bike(Duke 200) delivered tomorrow. I have been trying to find a good helmet in budget - I zeroed in on a Studds Shifter. However, for the past 2 days I have been looking for it at many shops in Bangalore, even Lalbagh. But I can't find one. The shopkeepers are saying that they have stopped receiving Studds helmets. I checked flipkart as well, seems Shifter has gone out of stock online too. Does anybody know where can I get a Studds Shifter helmet in Bangalore?

                    TIA

If you are spending 1.6lacs on a bike, you can spend at least 4k on the helmet. Buy a good helmet, LS2 FF 350 or MT Axxis. In fact, get a jacket as well. Duke is one seriously fast bike. Take it as just an advice, no offense meant.

No offense taken. I am here for guidance and advice from the more experienced members. My budget for helmets is around ~4K. I tried MT Axxis, and Blade. Both felt very cramped, and the shell looked large in size. They may fit better later - I am not sure.
BTW, in around ~5K, what would be a good choice of helmet? - I would prefer a light helmet, and also if the shell is a bit smaller. Also, I have read that LS helmets are not of the same quality as they were before, hence I did not check them out

Well studds helmets are really good and there is nothing wrong in choosing one . I have used 2 of their models and trust me am still alive because of these helmets . But if can't find one why don't your try the AXR helmets , it's a new one on the market ( Indian brand ) .
It's only 4000 and has the same safety features of the MT , more comfortable too .

I'll tell you my experience. I was using a steelbird SB-3 helmet for a long time. It was light and saved me once. Then I decided to upgrade and bought Axor. It was heavy and uncomfortable. I thought may be after some time, it'll adjust but it didn't. So I exchanged it with LS2. It was heavy as compared to steelbird but I got used to it within a week and now it's pretty much comfortable. So my advice would be to get LS2 from some authentic store like Let's gear in HSR.

                              Hi Guys,
I am currently using LS2 FF-350 diamond. I am totally happy with it except for its ventilation. Its not that great. Anyway, its been more than 2 years since I bought it & now I am planning to buy a new helmet. My main requirements are Quality of LS2 or more & most importantly good ventilation. Budget is 4-4.5k
I bought my LS2 from Lal Bagh Road, Bangalore for ₹2,500 that time.

                                Is it good?
Also I'd like to know if helmets which has sun shades like projection can help in rain to deflect them away opposed to regular helmets?
