  • I have booked a Hyosung GT650R, and waiting for the delivery of the same sometime next week. In the mean time, I need to get my basic riding gear sorted. I have to buy the Helmet, Jacket, Gloves before I get the bike . Knee guard and boots will have to wait for some time. Total budget for these gear is around 12-15K at the moment.

The bike will not be my primary means of transport as I use my car to travel to office. The bike will be used for some leisure rides on weekends, or perhaps may take it to office some times, may be once in a week or so or may join for an occasional G2G rides in Pune over weekend. So looking for the gear that is suitable for this kind of riding.

I am based in Pune and know of only PlanetDSG shop and Cramster. Over the last few posts on this thread, the Cramster is being bashed like anything so not much interested in that.

Are there any other shops where I can checkout these gear over the coming weekend. Want to try the size before I buy to avoid the hassle of sending the stuff back for different size. Hence ONLINE ONLY stores are not preferred.

Helmet: Should provide good protection, ventilation, and preferable scratch/fog resistant visor. Not too expensive. What are the brands that I should be looking at. Nuvo, LS2. RJay ? any other ? Where in Pun can I get these other that PlanetDSG.

Jacket: Must be usable all through the year. Being waterproof is not essential. I will not be riding usually in rains, but it should be able to take some small drizzles, just in case. Should not get spoiled after getting wet. Not very heavy, preferably should be able to pack this into a backpack :-)

From the protection perspective, what all should I check in a Jacket. What is a must and what is a good to have feature. Currentyl my eyes are set on some DSG jackets, Maze, NEro, Phoenix ?

    DSG Maze Jacket : Black - 5,999.00Rs
    DSG Nero Jacket - 5,499.00Rs
DSG Phoenix Jacket Black - 5,499.00Rs

No one has been talking about DSG FALCON on the forum. This is very competitively priced and does seem to have CE approved protectors. Is this particularly bad in some aspect that people don't even consider that ?

DSG Falcon Jacket Black - 3,790.00Rs

Gloves: Should be comfortable with adequate protection. Not sure if the long cuff or the short cuff should be purchased for my kind of usage. Could some users please provide the pros and cons of both. How about sweating in the different gloves ? do these come with proper ventilation ? Again being waterproof is not the criteria.. but should be able to take some occasional drizzle..

I am planning to shop around on this Sat/Sun for these so any inputs would be really helpful wrt above queries.

    Cheers

I have been using Falcon for quite some months & done a really rough riding of over a month for 7000kms in terrible heat & dust at times.
Even had a fall with it, while this ride. The armors took the beating. Didnt have a single scratch. But it got little torn as well.
After stitching the textile, Now I use it regularly while commuting for office. Its very comfortable & a descent jacket. Basically, it keeps my formal shirt quiet well inside
Not a great looker though, very simple. I use this jacket for my city riding as have some other jacket for tours & long rides.
The liner may not keep the rain totally away, but in minute drizzle its ok.

A very simple & value for money jacket I would say.

          Raint coat probably
if i remove warm liner and water resistant liner and open up all the vents on the nero jacket will it be still uncomfortable to ride with jacket on in mumbai traffic including rainy season? cause when it is not raining i start to sweat. so should i go for Nero or Maze or Phoenix or Falcon? also i intend to go to leh next year i know nero is the best for leh tour but still will the combination of mesh jacket + duckback rainsuit (shirt & pant) prevent me from rain on the tour?

P.S i sweat a lot in all seasons

          • From what I remember of Mumbai climate when I stayed there LONG back, it was not cold as such.
I think if you are planning to use a riding jacket for daily use, mesh is the only go.
Though in Hyderabad I can't even bear a mesh jacket in city.

I find the LS2 pretty stylish and VFM. I bought one recently for 2.8k. Rjays are nice though, but they are expensive.

You can also have a look at the RJays. They are pretty good. The Swift has better quality than DSG jackets, and has lesser complaints. This is not my own view, but of the shopkeeper where I was enquiring about jackets. He also sells DSG products.

              DSG Maze Jacket : Black - 5,999.00Rs
              DSG Nero Jacket - 5,499.00Rs

Have found the Semi-gauntlet gloves from DSG (Model name DSG Revive) to be very nice. Am using it since the last one year, and it is very comfortable in summer due to the vents. Not waterproof though. Can be used in mild showers. Just remember to wipe off the water or spin-dry it in a washing machine before storing it.
The full-gauntlet design from DSG are also very good. Would go nicely with jackets.

I am planning to shop around on this Sat/Sun for these so any inputs would be really helpful wrt above queries.

Hey !! thats a good piece of information there about Scoyco products.
However , do they have CE approved protectors in elbows and shoulders ? , removable warm and waterproof liners inside ??

                  • @ mittal_v2002 - For 15k you should buy a KBC / Sparx helmet (6 - 11 k, available in Bomaby at PRS not sure about Pune) and not any of the other helmets you listed, DSG Nero (its the best among the Indian jackets though Scoyco jackts are a good aternative) and DSG semi gauntlet / Cramster full gauntlet TRG2 gloves (depending on comfort and fit, I dont find the DSG gloves to be a perfect fit for my hands, other swear by it). Reviews of all the products are strewn throughout this thread.

@ rahul2880 - In your case, you will in all probability sweat with the Nero even after removing the lining and opening all the vents. Though I dont know of any Indian jacket in which you will not sweat.

Have been using the jacket for a long time. Sweat in the summers a lot and will be able to protect you from light rains, but not very heavy rains. It has a total of 6 vents, 4 at the front and 2 at the back. The armour quality is excellent. Over-all a very good product.
I would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

If you are looking at using it only for hilly regions, then I think its better to go with Cramster Tundra gloves&K2K2.0, both optimized for Leh-Ladakh kind of travel. Have a look at the site below:

There are other options in DSG too, do have a look www.planetdsg.com
My entire riding gear is Cramster, as I find their products to be VFM&good quality.
Other brands like Scoyco etc. are also there, I do not have links.

But does it have a CE marking on the armour?, you will need to remove one to check, their website has no mention of CE rated armour.

                              • Yesterday rode so fast(reached upto 145kmph) in heavy rains atleast for an hour with my Octane jacket on.. It proved fantastic.. not even a single drop entered in. I was already amazed about the air circulation it had riding under hot sun(without rain liners) and now this..

Money well well spent.. happy with the purchase.. Thanks Mr. Zulfi.
