  • re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread

I went to AH Helmets (Jogeshwari, Mumbai) and S9 Helmets (Goregaon, Mumbai)
None of them had the AlpineStars Balaclava.

They have a 250 bucks item with some rubber type nose fitment but yes full size for neck cover.

Is there any reliable online space selling them ?
I don't trust eBay with this.

Also, what's the lowest price range of a Jacket ?
AH helmet said they have Spartans and it starts from 6.5k.
And have some copy of AlpineStars ranging near 3.5-4k

(But then AH helmet's owner wasn't there and his worker told me all these prices, whom I Don't trust with prices. I've seen hell difference between his prices & the owner's price.)
First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

Also the two front pockets are fully waterproof.

yes i know. infact saw ur foto again - the one taken @ amby valley & then decided to research a bit more on the pants... heading in next 10 mins to the spartan oshiwara outlet :-)
have already called them n they seem to have it in-stock - let's c - i dont know whether i will get a camouflaged one or a black one.
thanks for the brief discussion we had on the pants during our velneshwar trip - that started the whole thing rolling :-)

Addendum: the oshiwara outlet did not have the spartan pants. he showed me a few others like PSG, RJay's, which i was not willing to buy. Looks like i will need to order online :'(
any idea on what happens if the pants are ill fit? mebbe any one of u had had any experience to that effect?
in the interim, i am dropping a mail to their customer support as well seeking clarifications on this.

i know what u mean... saw that weird thing myself. appeared less of balaclava & more like the headgear worn by 'sub-zero' in mortal combat! ;-)
getting one online is ur safest bet.

Were they trying to troll you?? Anyways the size depends on your waist size. For 32-34, M should be perfect. L, XL, XXL would be preferred if it is anything more. The length of the pants should not be a problem. You can ping @Sunnyside_up! for clarification on size so you neednt worry getting it online.

Did you try Cramster's Laplace backpack/helmet bag? Seriously one heck of a bag with helmet holder and just fits the right stuff required for a biker on a day to day basis. OGIO is pretty costly and sunnyside_up! uses one of their hydration backpack. And I don't think (to my knowledge) you get anywhere here in India. But has very good followers abroad. But I'd suggest you try the Laplace 2.0.

Drag issue? I think you're not referencing to wind induced drag, if that's the case then you're wrong. Remember, to get a perfect airflow over you and your bike isn't a one suit-fit all spec. Each bike, each rider, the way he rides all affects the wind drag. But if you plan on using it on touring and day-to-day why worry so much about drag.

Backpacks are backpacks they aren't designed to be aerodynamic as such, and again as I said, the above factors come into play.

                        Cheers!

I had bought it last Saturday since I wanted it for the ride on sunday. Rode 700kms and these are the points I would like to highlight.

                          After adjusting..

Straps at knees.. (Pic from behind)

                          2. The vents do let the air in, once you are doing 30+kmph. It will also depend on the posture of the rider, if his thighs are facing front (because of rear set footpegs) then these vents do even better job.

The zipper based vents on thighs..

                          3. Initially, I had to keep checking if the Knox armour has slid down, since I could not feel it, but it was perfectly in position. It is that comfortable! Later on just assumed that it is still there and didnt bother checking

Pic of knox knee armour, you can notice that it covers the portions slightly below your knee too, so with full length boots, you get complete protection for the leg.

                          4. The additional extra dynatec layer added at seat is for extra abrasion resistance but I found it to be very comfy.

                          5. The pants are not at all flashy and one can easily go unnoticed at restaurants (Just close the vents or you will look like wearing torn pants!). This is the biggest plus point for me, I hate those jaw dropping stares from onlookers

                          6. It can be easily connected to my Spartan Hyperion, and it gives you a feeling of extra safety. (The attaching zipper is visible in the prev image)

                          7. The fit and finish is top notch. Cordura does mean business when it comes to abrasion resistance.

                          8. Had also tried it out in rain with the liner and my legs were fully dry inside. Had ridden for 30min in rain.

Overall, very happy with the buy. Would recommend this to anyone and for that price point, it is a real VFM product!

OGIO is in a league of its own when it comes to motorcycle luggage - can hardly compare the Laplace to it. Incidentally I use their FlightVest, which is something like a flak jacket with multiple storage options plus a HydraPak. It helps distribute weight better than the straps of a backpack, so you can carry a lot of stuff without strain on your shoulders and back. Ideal for long distance touring.

Thats not true Vijay, I have the OGIO Mach 3 which I use occasionally when I ride into the city (very rarely) and its probably the most aerodynamic pack Ive ever seen. Superlative build quality and such a snug fit that you sometimes wonder if you have anything on your back. But of course as you pointed out, expensive and only necessary if you ride a really fast bike - which on our roads is moot. But sexxxxyyyy looking thing!
