I got myself Spartan Helios jacket, Rynox Optimus M tank bag and Zeus Street Rider Pro gloves. Probably will go for Spartan Perseus Knee guard to complete the gear as of now. For the lid, I have a LS2.

Looking for a helmet with vents near the ear for my father who has trouble hearing when wearing a full face helmet. Any such helmet?

One of the fellow rider commented the following when I mentioned I would go for the Spartan Perseus Knee guard " dont go for spartan perseus.... i am using it and they dont give much confidence... also they keep slipping down the knees, doesnt matter whether you wear them under or over the jeans....

waste of money... if you still want you can take mine :P

the pads feel as if it some cotton stuffed in a gauge... trust me look for something else.."

            Any views on the same?

I have been using perseus and I feel that they provide adequate protection for the price. The Knox armors are very good and will protect your knees and shins. I generally wear them under my jeans and they do tend to slip, if not fit securely. When secured properly you can wear them for extended periods of time. You can even walk in them for some time, but, hiking is very uncomfortable. That being said, you cannot hike in any of the knee guards, so not much of an issue, except you cannot take it off in a jiffy if worn underneath. Try it for yourself in a shop and get a feel for it. If you like the fit, then dont worry about protection, they are pretty good.

It has good Hidden Ear vents. Please try it once yourself. I've the same model and that is why I am suggesting this one. The lightest production helmet as well.

I purchased a CBR 250R ABS Red colour bike on 27th Feb (my first bike), bought some gear for myself yesterday. I mentioned a doubt regarding MT Helmet fit at the end of this post, kindly help me by throwing some light on the issue.

                  Gear
Sun Glasses - I bought Orao ARENBERG 300 cycling sunglasses for day time rides of less than 2kms. They have a very good collection of glasses for reasonable prices, unfortunately my eyelids touched most of their sunglasses, the same problem occured with some Oakley glasses as well. Also, as these are my first pair of glasses, I bought a less priced sunglasses (300 INR) this time.

Jacket - I went to checkout SPG Helios, Achillies or Chronos; when I tried Helios, I didn't find it enough to keep me warm during rides. My body gets cold easily and rides make it worser, then the store guy showed Cramster's Eclipse to me. I was impressed with its build quality and felt confident of the product, but store guy told me that its armours less rated than Helios armours. I'm a smooth rider who accelerate gradually and my top speeds are 100kmph, so he told me that Eclipse is good enough to handle such speeds; and I hope it does. I've a V-Shaped upper body due to which I had to take a Medium size. the jacket is slightly loose at the stomach area but the armour fits perfectly on the shoulders.

Gloves - I tried several SPG gloves, but fell in love with these and bought them.

                  t Issue
I had to struggle a bit to wear a Large MT Axxis Helmet, the fit becomes too tight when wearing especially near the ears. But once I wore it, it was comfortable and outside sound is almost blocked. I followed instructions on Sharp website regarding testing a helmet; when I rotated head from left to right very quickly (< 1 Sec), the helmet is wobbling on my head. It's a bit loose and I'd like to add some padding inside the helmet; are there any dangers in adding padding to a helmet like blocking ventilation or worse any safety risks? Kindly help by throwing some light on the issue. Store guy told me that smaller Medium size may be even more tight at the ears while wearing, so if padding is not an option then I've to look for other brands.

Continuing my previous first impressions here, I tried to test waterproofing capabilities. I stood on half feet of water as in the pic below for sometime and not a drop went in. Later on had to pull my friend's bike out of the lake , not sure how deep I went in but no issues there either, feet was completely dry.

After stepping out of the lake, its almost dry.

While riding, initially I was a bit uncomfortable as you cant feel the gear lever like how it is when you wear normal boots but later on got used to it and the shifts were easier than before. Had no issues with walking either.

Will post some more feedback as I use it. But based on first impression, I would suggest this for anyone planning to buy a touring boot.

                      Adarsh -

SPG does not claim waterproof capabilities for this boot or for that matter any of its other products - since complete waterproofing is a very debatable issue and very difficult to validate. As a company policy SPG does not overstate product capabilities and make claims that cannot be validated and prefers to err on the side of caution. That said, the boot is equipped with a waterproof membrane liner that should provide good protection against water and definitely against rain and monsoon conditions. Just FYI - my 8 month old prototype boots actually have a "waterproof" label which was replaced with a "rainproof" label during production.

SPG would rather a rider be happy that the product he purchased performs better than claimed than vice-versa!

Your issues with the gear lever will disappear once you get used to it. I take it that you've not been riding with motorcycle boots before?

Agree with that, its very diffciult to validate waterproof behaviour as it can always leak in from top portion, I assumed rainproof meant waterproof

And yes, I havent ridden with any other motorcycle boots. Getting used to it now.

bro, do the boots cook your feet in our Indian heat? also a side profile to know the level of shin protection offered.

Honestly, I didnt pay it that much attention. It does heat up more than my woodlands I guess, but not sure how it would be in coastal areas (extra heat and humidity).

Will try to post a pic from side, you can also find it in Spartan FB page.

Safety shoe bazaar one from JCB is better, since it has good soles and toe protection. It does not replace a riding boot, but, when compared to Orazo Picus, the protection offered is similar. If you are in a pinch, you can go for this, but, be sure to upgrade to a proper riding boot. The boot does not have any shin or ankle protection although the padding is good . Sandeep has posted some reviews and I too use it for my every day commute to office where I cannot wear a riding boot.
