    Hey all,

I'm planning a trip to Ladakh this year, just wanted some tips on what rain gear to get? I have a mesh jacket,is there something i could wear over it which would do the job?

I tried searching the thread there are just too many most which address getting a new rain jacket altogether.I'd prefer if there were a cheaper option with the same utility.

Thanks man! This helps. The only doubt I have is with the glove sizes. I guess I will have to visit showroom myself and choose what fits me the best.

For the jacket, I tried Helios L/M size few months ago and I found that my shoulders were looking really really big. I have pretty wide shoulders for my build so those shoulder armors in jacket were making it even bigger. Anybody had observed this? From the pictures, I see that HYperion might not look that huge for the same sized jacket. Is this right? Anybody had similar experience with Helios?

Which jacket do you have ? It depends on the quality of the rain liner it has, a number of ways can be adopted to keep yourself dry.

Let me get this right. You're complaining that you have broad shoulders? You're kidding, right? LOL!

Jokes apart, MOTO 101 Pune located on Dhole Patil Rd., has the entire range - go check it out for yourself!

haha! no! I didn't complain about shoulders being too broad. I am fine with that, but wearing Helios made them look too broader which seemed unnatural. For an average shoulders, Helios looks great indeed. For example, my friend has Helios and jacket looks awesome on him.

About Moto 101, I am going to visit today when electricity is off in my area :P

By the way, somebody recommended me not to go with HYperion because it has leather shoulders and might get hot in Pune weather. I feel that should not matter much because Helios has good breathability I guess. What do you think? Currently, I have shortlisted Helios and Hyperion. Leaning towards Hyperion right now because of better protection and also I love what they did with the red strips on the chest.

                Below 4k, not many options.
Check SPG website, they had launched a jacket for 4k last month.

                Ride safe and have fun.

I have been using the Hyperion in the insane humid conditions of Kerala and even for long road trips in the summer season, I never felt it to be hot, on the contrary, it was a way lot cooler , it has extremely good and functional mesh which keeps us cool at almost all time.

Below 4k if you need a decent jacket, go for used ones. Otherwise you do not have much options to choose from.

I have read your review of Hyperion on your blog. Great write-up!!

I visited Moto 101 (Pune) and they did not have Helios and Hyperion small size. Asked them to order for me and they happily agreed that they would make both Hyperion and Helios small available and then I can go with the best fit. Currently, I am leaning towards Hyperion.

While I was there I bought Spartan Pegasus gloves for 2.6k. I feel some free play at the pinky finger at the finger tips. Also, my left hand thumb has started aching after wearing them for odd 10 kms. Will it get better after the break-in period? How long should I wait?

By the way, folks at Moto 101 were super helpful and even if they could sell me medium Hyperion, they asked me not to buy it as it was not a snug fit. Extra points for being sincere and their hospitality and personal attention to the customers!!

The tightness will be there, since it is leather, it will slowly take the shape of your finger and expand a bit , giving you a comfortable snug fit.

And it is great to hear that more and more dealers are acting up and giving proper advices instead of just selling stuff off.

                      Cheers

I have an old alpinestars mesh jacket(don't remember the name). It does have a padded inner lining but isn't rain proof as such.Would do fine in light rain i guess but definitely not in a heavy shower.

Ok, so if you are not contemplating getting a new jacket then i would suggest buying a good quality Duckback or Wildcraft rain coat. They are the ones that work best. But still chances are you will get wet in heavy rains
If you can invest in a new jacket do try out Helios, the rain liners are superb from spartan, these liners along with the winter liner together can give a good protection from rain and also a cheap rain coat over the jacket gives a extra layer of protection from water.

But the best option fro ladhak would be a good tough Textile Jacket with rain liners and a rain coat over them. Do check out DSG Triton.

For gloves a* gloves are there, which are waterproof(almost) , then you can use surgical gloves under the gloves to protect your hands.

For good rain protection try quechua
Used a quechua poncho which is free size and very thin and doesnt allow a drop of water inside. Used it inside jacket or outside formal wear. The poncho fits inside its own pocket.
Quecha pants too are good they work for 2 years and then probably their rain protection layer starts going off and it gets wet in the crotch area.
                                Duckback not suitable for riding
