), but at least in my mind a riding boot is as important as a helmet, for the following reasons:1) chance of fatality when your head hits a hard immovable object is high. But there is a higher probability of your feet hitting a hard immovable object, than your head, especially, in slow speed traffic and filtering. An overtaking rickshaw can easily force you to a road divider and your feet will feel the brunt of impact.
2) our feet has many small bones and joints. Once damaged, they never go back to their original state. I had damaged my ankle joint in a football game in college, and even now my feet bend to the inside occasionally while walking.
3) there is a higher chance for your feet to trap below the bike in the event of a slow speed fall (due to gravel, etc on pavement)
4) In another forum, I had read ktm footpegs become slippery when wet, so that itself should make converse shoes a strict no-no.
I would ask you to at least get cheap leather boots or safety shoes, that can save you in case of a low speed accident. Though I have heard that safety shoes is actually very bad for a high speed spill, beacuse the steel plate can damage your toe when your feet gets bend over.
