I'm no expert here (far from it, a total noob), but at least in my mind a riding boot is as important as a helmet, for the following reasons:

    1) chance of fatality when your head hits a hard immovable object is high. But there is a higher probability of your feet hitting a hard immovable object, than your head, especially, in slow speed traffic and filtering. An overtaking rickshaw can easily force you to a road divider and your feet will feel the brunt of impact.
    2) our feet has many small bones and joints. Once damaged, they never go back to their original state. I had damaged my ankle joint in a football game in college, and even now my feet bend to the inside occasionally while walking.
    3) there is a higher chance for your feet to trap below the bike in the event of a slow speed fall (due to gravel, etc on pavement)
    4) In another forum, I had read ktm footpegs become slippery when wet, so that itself should make converse shoes a strict no-no.

I would ask you to at least get cheap leather boots or safety shoes, that can save you in case of a low speed accident. Though I have heard that safety shoes is actually very bad for a high speed spill, beacuse the steel plate can damage your toe when your feet gets bend over.

@Ajeet Padhi : Do get atleast a woodland or if on budget an army boot, I am using it for past few years and in love with those.
I have worn converse while going to BIC and did leaning and touched my toes numerous times, this is what happened

Imagine what would happen in case of a fall. I hope you understand my point

Wow , so this does rule out the Converse . I have a pair of Woodlands ( a bit higher than ankle length ) I will use those . I do really wanna get the riding boots too , safety boots I will stay clear off .

As for leaning , I'm no expert or intermediate rider ... but protection even when going for small errands on a bike matter .

Thanks a lot for the input guys . Didn't knew that foot injuries are so probable . Better be able to get up and walk away from a crash

Well please select the shoes properly as it saves your feet from getting damaged and believe me its no good to damage your feet or ankle or leg, especially when you want to Bike around throughout your life.

          • Advice required for buying motorcycle, touring gears and tools

            Hi all,

I have been riding motorcycles for 11 years now. But i've never invested in riding gear or touring bags before. The only two gears i've invested in are helmets and riding gloves.

            I have a 2012 Bajaj Avenger 220.

I have decided to follow safe riding practices and the first thing is to get a proper riding gear.

The things which i think are required are:
            1. Riding jacket
            2. Riding pants

For the riding jacket, i have narrowed down to rynox tornado pro jacket, for its kevlar armour and extra crash armour at impact places. Also, the detachable rain and thermal liners are a blessing for all weather riding.

For the riding pant, i like the spartan aspida odysseus touring, although, i need some serious help here as i dont know what to look for exactly.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Even I was thinking of buying the aspirations odyssey pants but held back due to a review I read on riderzone. I'm now thinking of buying aspida proteus pants which are mesh ones

Hey guys! I want to buy a pair of gloves for aroud 4-5k. Most of my running is in the city so the gloves should have decent ventilation. i looked at the alpinestars smx 2 ac on sbkstore and they look like a decent purchase. Are there any other gloves that i should look for? Please keep in mind that the purchase will be done online.

If you want the protection offered by a full gauntlet and good ventilation , then you can check out the DSG Primal ( Rs3000/- ) . The good ventilation comes at the cost of being waterproof though .

PGS , Spartan and TBG are other brand that offer good gear and very value for money .

hey bro its depends on your style & how you are using these like street/long rides

i am using aspida phaeton of course nice one as the price is 2225 & not 2099 if i am not wrong.
this is the combination of leather & cordura material as its not fully leather one.

both the rynox rampage pro & solace passion giving the same leather with cordura or other material i guess
but the price range is differing alot as i dont think the quality will be different. its all the same just due to brand name prices
                      are fluctuating.

one genuine suggestion if you are ready to spend 2350 then go for solace blaze gloves semi gauntlet full leather with high end protection
almost in this price range all brands providing mix material with leather.
so you opt for blaze one or else anything in between rynox rampage pro or solace passion both provides same quality

I think the Solace Blaze wont be suitable for hot and humid conditions.. How about DSG Revive? Its 2499 though

Its better actually if your shoes covers your ankle.
So, when you fall your ankle has support and less chance of getting injured.

No doubt that our feet are more prone to injury than our heads.
But, our head is always uncoved, but that's not the case with our feet.
Wear boots that can cover your ankle, woodland or basketball shoes they would do the job.
There are a lot of options, so its not riding shoes only which we need to use, we may uses some of the above stated. They will protect you for 1 crash for sure.
But in case of helmet, there is nothing else that can protect your skull against the tarmac.

Basketball shoes or army boots are a good cheaper alternative to riding boots!

Although, nothing to beat the protection a proper riding boot can offer.
You will get a toe slider, steel insert inside the heel, and ankle and calf protection guaranteed.

My special tip for riding boots are:
Go for one with a single piece (moulded) sole construction.
Many shoes lose the gumming on the sole area due to non usage.
And it's bound to happen coz we won't wear it other than ride days, we won't ride in summers, etc.
The same happened with my riding boots too. I was lucky to get them repaired by heat press. Though we need to keep wearing any shoes once in a few weeks to ensure they remain intact.
But if the sole is a one piece mould construction, it will not give away, no matter how long it is not used.
