better to go with sprint mesh jacket from solace comes with removable liners thermal & rain.Originally posted by joelgreen View PostCan someone recommend me a good riding jacket in the 4-5k range for my daily commutes?
I mainly require decent ventilation for summers and a rain liner for the monsoons.

Thanks for the quick reply.Originally posted by Chandan92 View PostTry DSG Evo comes at 5k, has winter and rain liner also, it's a mesh jacket. Comes with CE approved armour.
I did consider the Evo, but doesn't the SPG Atlas defeat this at a better price point?

Any idea about Scimitar jackets on the SPG website? They look decent for the price tags. I even tried out one that costs around 6,799/- (Scimitar Strike) and it seemed pretty solid. They have a model called the Solus for 3,799/- if I'm not wrong, but I was unable to check it out as the dealer near my residence didn't have it in stock.

Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Actually I didn't tried that it could be better than DSG evo but I am using DSG evo for around 10 months, haven't faced any problem till now, SPG Atlas can also be another option. I would say don't go for LS2 have seen it person, it's better to go for DSG evo or SPG atlas.Originally posted by joelgreen View PostI did consider that, but doesn't the SPG Atlas defeat this at a better price point?

Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Haha yeah the DSG dealer in Thane sells them for around 2k too!Originally posted by jRay View PostI got them for 2k. I feel cheated lol
I'm guessing they all procure this stuff in bulk from Delhi/Bangalore and add a good margin to it for themselves!
I saw an identical pair on Amazon just under a different branding for around 8k

Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
The very fact that there are very little reviews of the LS2 jackets online is pushing me away from that option. I wouldn't mind spending a little more on a more reliable product that will serve me better for the rides to come.Originally posted by Chandan92 View PostActually I didn't tried that it could be better than DSG evo but I am using DSG evo for around 10 months, haven't faced any problem till now, SPG Atlas can also be another option. dont ever go for this schimitar. one of my friend bought this but the armors are pathetic you check it.
please dont opt for this spartan solus. why to waste 3799 also for garbage. what they will give you in this
price? better add more 1500 in it & go for quality riding jacket after all it is your safety while riding.
but you check options available & then go for the suitable one.
just as of now spartan is a very reputed brand but that doesn't mean it can sale anything under the tag "imported by spartan"

Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
The reason for them to sell 'anything' is that people want cheap cheap cheap and are not willing to shell out for quality. A good riding jacket with CE approved armor would be about 6K and it would cost even more for Knox armor. I see people wanting jackets for 3K, and fake "Alpinestars" and those shoddy LS2 and other jackets are also available in the market from anything for 3-4K to 10K (and even more), with terrible protection.Originally posted by prashanthkt View Postdont ever go for this schimitar. one of my friend bought this but the armors are pathetic you check it.

To do a small comparison -
1) The Aspida Helios : Spartan ProGearSpartan ProGearSpartan ProGear
3.8K, CE rated armour for elbows, shoulders and back.
We can clearly see the differences in the quality/type of the armor and fabric. It's as simple as you get what you pay for. In the case of the fake jackets out there, the armors are not even real armor but just foam inserts.
Also note the FB page of Spartan says that the Scimitar is oriented towards urban riding https://www.facebook.com/SpartanProG...type=3&theater .
It doesn't help when people buy things without doing their research. The Scimitar might not be a great jacket, but for 3.8K, it is much better than the fake "Alpinestars" out there. It's clearly pitched as a mesh city riding jacket. Agreed about better to add more money and get a quality riding jacket. However people do not understand that simple fact.

I mainly require decent ventilation for summers and a rain liner for the monsoons.
Comfort and decent protection are my priorities here.
1) Aspida Icarus - 5.8k
2) RJays Swift - 5k (as per Bachoo Motors Website)
3) Tarmac One - 6k (as per Bachoo Motors, again)
4) Mototech Contour - 5,750/-
5) Rynox Air GT - 5,550/-
6) Aspida Atlas - 4.5k
7) DSG Evo - 5k
I shall check them out in person and decide, however, if anyone here has had any unpleasant experience with respect to the quality of any of the products specified above, please let me know so that I may be able to make a better choice. Thanks!

Apart from comparing these jackets ( above mentioned ) with their price tags i would suggest you to compare them with the features they give you for that price point. ( like material, armor, rain liner, thermal liner, mesh or textile e.t.c., )Originally posted by joelgreen View PostI am now considering the following options :-

Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
I'm not comparing the jackets by price brother, just listed the prices for reference.Originally posted by Sandeep Patnala View PostApart from comparing these jackets ( above mentioned ) with their price tags i would suggest you to compare them with the features they give you for that price point. Obviously, if they're merely compared on the basis of price, I'd never want to buy a one-piece racing suit, whereas in reality, that is my dream!
And thanks for the suggestion, but the Asphalt is way out of my budget!

Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
If budget is the only problem then I will suggest you to save up some more money and delay the buy. But when you buy, get the good ones only. I have checked all the jackets when I was there in your position. The one I liked was a jacket by TBG called the ADV BREED which is only available in Bangalore, sold by LETS GEAR UP. It offers the best in class protection and offers good features like stretch panels, multi adjustable straps, rain and wind protection, waterproof pockets (3no), and SAS-TECH level 2 armour for back, shoulder and arm. It costs 8900 and was out of my budget at that point. I saved up for a month and now am happy to have this jacket. I use it for all riding urban and highway alike. Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Bought ADVbreed last evening from LGU, Bangalore. Everything is know abt the jacket, so not going into that. Even I did nt take more than 5 mins to close the transaction, neither I checked any other jacket.
One point to note abt LGU-
1 yr ago, when I bought the street glove; I got option to replace/exchange if fitting was not perfect and I utilized that to change from medium to large. This time, there was no such option. moreover I was not supposed to check the fitting by riding even 100 mtr on bike.
Thought no complain as such, it looses the friendly neighborhood shop touch.
