I would suggest the DSG Nero jacket. On our ride last week one guy had a fall when a bus nicked his handle bars. He ended up with hairline fractures on his hand and on his foot. He was wearing a Yamaha riding jacket and other riding gear as well.

Hard to say if DSG would have protected him better but then i guess the Yamaha jacket just did not offer the expected levels of protection. I wouldnt buy one after this incident. The armor did not save his bones from breaking.

    • To those seeking good jacket for themselves or wife, I have a very good option. The touring jackets you get in US are bit large in size, which means with liner they fit perfectly, but without liner, the fit is bit loose. I have bought such a touring jacket 'Small' in size, where I normally use 'Medium'. This small jacket fits my wife very good, it is just a little tall for her. All the armour falls perfectly in place on the body, provided she is wearing it with liner. Once I remove the liner, the jacket becomes around a size loose, and fits me perfectly, with only 0.25-0.5 inch of short sleeves.

      I bought this jacket:

FirstGear Torrent Mesh Motorcycle Jacket :: New Enough

The small size costs $40. There is a service called iccworld:
      ICC World

You can give the shopping link and your location in India, and they will tell you the price they can bring it to your doorstep. I ended up buying up the above jacket for around 3500-4000! This beats the local jackets by HUGE margins, do give it a try.

I had clicked quite a lot of photos, but forgot to bring them today. Will upload tomorrow.

I'll make a personal visit to Kochi/Bangalore, spend sometime, have a look & feel of things & then buy. Which mean, along with the jacket, there's a probability for a touring bag or may be even riding pants.
The back protector was for 8k not 1.2k. Maybe I was looking at the wrong one. Check with Sabu, AutoQueen if he has the A* jacket, I dont remember seeing it here.

It is the most waterproof of the DSG jackets. Some people have reported a little water trickling in during heavy showers while other have said that they have been totally dry in the jacket (assuming youre wearing the lining).

Both of them cost almost the same.
I live in pune and the temperature is generally warm
I dont ride in the rains so water protection not necessary.
        Please help me out.
        Thanks.
I would say go for the DSG / Cramster options. I feel the armour is better in them and them seem to be made of thicker material.

Read about Scorcher's unfortunate incident. However I dont know how much of a difference the Nero or any other jacket wouldve made. Of course, I dont know the exact details of his injuries but given a choice I would pick a DSG / Cramster over the Yamaha jacket anyday.

The DSG Nero is a recommended jacket. I'm not sure about the protection available on the R15 jacket though. From the pic below, the shoulder padding can be figured out, but can't judge for elbow & back armour.
Just check out both the jackets in person & compare the look, feel & protection, and then decide.
EDIT: Noted in the below pic that the R15 jacket is a mesh jacket. This is something suited for summers only, and will not provide water-proofing in rains.

The jacket Ram was wearing was a Duhan jacket, with Yamaha embroidery & stuff. It wasn't a jacket made by Yamaha. The jacket Vikram is referring to is this:

          • @Neil - Yes, I'll enquire with Sabu or may be I'll call up Manju @ BLR before I visit their showroom. One thing for sure - Will never buy it without seeing it personally.

Animeher - Yeah, the option is good to order via ICC, seems to be better than 20north (they don't look professional). But my question will be about the quality of the jacker & replacement policies. Think about the following situation...
            1. I buy some riding gear which seems to be good, but end of the day it should serve the purpose. Means, it should be something acceptable.
            2. I order A, when the shipment arrives, its A1; someone at the store messes this up, think about the hassles of getting it replaced
            3. I order A, when it comes I see its slightly damaged, fortunately the merchant agrees to replace at free of cost & bears one way shipping!!!

Anyway, my intention is not to criticize, but actually talking about my confusion; I really appreciate to have shared the ICC website; even with the local vendors such as DSG, I'm unable to determine which one is better Nero or A*; since these 2 places (Kochi/BLR) are little closer I can visit the showroom & decide upon.

            • I would say go with ICC! The original price of that jacket is $250, which was put as $40 in closeout. So you see, the quality is superb, and the jacket is packed. You are buying from reputed company like newenough or motogearoutlet or motorcyclesuperstore, so don't worry, they won't send you second hand jackets! No blemishes or anything, the jacket was perfectly wrapped in a plastic cover, with all the tags intact. Even if custom opens it, they don't wear the jacket and play around! You will get a packed piece only.

              Now, answers to your questions:
              1. Quality of jacket: Stick with brandnames like Firstgear, Hein Gericke, A-Star and good websites, and no way you will get a low quality stuff. It will be much better than Desi counterparts.
              2. No chance of messing up. THere are many interesting items coming to customs than a discounted motorcycle jacket, to draw attention to. And if you have done your study well about the jacket, you are sure of the quality. What'ts the question of replacing?
              3. No damage unless specified in the buying link. You are buying from reputed US sellers, who I am sure will not risk their reputation for earning a few bucks. In fact, some may even throw free shipping or some goodies to let the jacket go!

I would fully recommend to get a jacket from abroad. The sizing also sticks true to what is shown on the products website.

              • Here are the photos. Wife is wearing the jacket with liner. The hands are bit large, but once you fit the welcro, then all the armour is at its perfect place.

I am wearing without armour. Notice the little shortness in the arm. Again, all other things fit well.

Cost me 1.5k, really worth it.

The right pair of gloves depends on your budget. If you dont want to pick up a full gauntlet pair then go in for the Cramster MX3 which is perfect for city use and is a little more expensive than the DSG Moto Mesh but definitely worth the extra dough. If you want full gauntlets, then you can choose between the Cramster TRG2 and a load of DSG gloves. Check their websites for options.
