      • @ EL LOCO: regarding the HDD..i have heard that segate 500GB is not so good.try for WD,maxtor, hitachi etc.

try for a 4870 or 4890.technology will keep on changing.the moment you take something that thing is gonna change.so when you are ready just take it.cause if you wait..that wait becomes never ending.my personal opinion.

and buy a corsair..2x times better than CM.

@others: do you people want RESIDENT 5 review?

RAM: Kingston DDR2@800Mhz (Is that right?) 2x2Gb
            GPU: Palit HD4850 1024Mb/DDR3
            HDD: Seagate 7200.12/500Gb SATA
            Chipset: MSI P43 Neo-F
Screen: Acer P207H 20" Full HD (As per Acer website claims)
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme power 600W

I had to switch from nVidia to ATi as no one here stocks anything more than the 9800GT, also Ati seems to excel in filters and anti-aliasing over the 9800GT/9800GTX marginally.
Swap the Palit with Sapphire. Instead of going for 1GB 4850 go for 512MB 4870.
That PSU isnt in my good books. Go for Corsair VX450W or VX550W.
You can go for Corsair XMS2 DRR2 800Mhz. They overclock better and have better heat spreaders.

RAM is fine. Board is fine if you don't OC.
CM Extreme Power series somehow don't have a good reputation. Consider the CM Real Power series or go in for a Corsair/Seasonic 450 or 550W.
Lastly, the GPU. Can you hold the GPU purchase for another month or so? AMD will launch the 58XX series and simultaneously effect a price drop on the 48XX series. You will be able to get a 4890/4870 for somewhere around $100 - $140 (current price range of 4850 in India).

EDIT : A 4890 will wipe out a 9800GT/GTX/+/-/whatever in any game or application. But then, so will a 4850
This actually is a good news about the GPU and thank you for the timely reply, if i had been reading this post sometime tomorrow i would have been kicking myself sensless, but i'm not a very hardcore gamer or anything since i buying this comp i would play a few games for the next few months, then it's back to doing what i do best...........watching movies and i suppose this card does that bit quite good? About the PSU how much do the Corsairs or the Seasonics cost? I hope they don't go beyond 3.7k, i've already "overclocked" my budget by atleast 10K since the last time. The irritating thing about the CPU's are that guys here seem to stock only very selective models, in my one day of running around the place, models anyone had was the E7500 only for the Core 2 Duo, Q8400,Q9550 and Q9650 for the quads. I don't know it's like some sort of mass propaganda or something these shops have against me buying something i want.

Like i said before to tanay these guys don't stock anything other than Seagate, heaven knows why and for warranty reasons i'm going for the whole setup at the same shop instead of running around to each shop for each part, though there are like millions of them cramped in a square kilometer

I really don't have any reason for going with Palit, it's just that they said they had Palit when i asked them for it, if they happen to have Sapphire i might go for them depending on the options, again i'm on a stringent budget so affordability is the main proposition, at 11K 4870 for me is a what i would purchase for a comptuer in my dreams.

Oh ok sorry I thought it was for gaming...mostly everyone is after the most powerful PC possible. If you are not a hardcore gamer then:
                  1) Why not consider a Core 2 Duo? You'll never use all 4 cores in a C2Q.
                  2) If you do want a quad core anyway, then a Q8400 is good enough for your needs.
                  3) Corsair 450VX is around 3.9 to 4K. 200-300 bucks extra
Should be able to handle the system load. If not then the Corsair 550 TX is 5.5K
                  4) A 9800 GT/GTX is great for playing all current games/upcoming games at good frame rates, but with some eye candy turned off. If you are not bothered by medium settings then a 9800 will do fine for 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 resolutions (you mentioned a HD capable monitor). Just get the 1 gig version. And you can pick whichever company's card. They will have warranty in case something blows up.

I'm wondering why i didn't start searching for a new computer from scratch here rather than breaking my head on all the twenty different sites i had been keeping tabs on for the past month and a half. Well to answer all your queries in the same order

1&2. A core 2 Duo was what i initially had in mind a E8400, but again out of lack of choice for the above model i was forced to go with an E7500, with which i really felt not that comfortable because apart from the clock speed everything wasn't what i was expecting, it looked extremely vulnerable to go out of date with time

                    3. A 450W PSU from Corsair does sound nice but the rig will/might run upto three HDD's simultaneously, though one is eSATA, still i don't really want to load too much on the PSU, as 450 is already cutting it a bit close, and the 550W is..........well expensive

4.I would really appreciate a game for its worth if i'm able to play it atleast at high if not at ultra, even if it is going to be only one or two games (i.e. if i get that far in completing them). As far as the type of GPU was concerned, i was taken aback when two out of every three reviews i read comparing back and forth between the 9800GT and the HD4850, the HD almost always came out a wee bit on top, because till then i was pretty much decided on the 9800GT, when it came to all the filters, frame rates and anti aliasing but then hey i may be becoming an ATi fanboy, but ATi seems much more readily available than nVidia

Well the entire C2D and C2Q lines are on the way to phase-out. The Core i5 is going to replace them, but this works on a totally new 1156 socket, as compared to the existing 775 one. There IS a Core i3 in the works, but nobody knows what it is yet.
As for availability of parts, your config seems okay for your needs, just try for the best PSU you can as the entire system runs on it. The CM Real Power series has a better reputation than the CM Extreme Power ones, but I don't know the prices. As for GPU, 9800 or 4850..your choice.

                        • The computer purchase has been postponed for at least a week now and i've to thank tanay for that (hope you don't mistake me for being sarcastic), and after much contemplation and deliberation i've finally decided, what the heck i've comes as far as spending 41K whats another 3K? So i'm going to go with the ATi HD-4570 1gig version taking the budget for the GPU from 8.3K to 11.2K, much to my to my dad's chagrin, So seven days and counting............

                          • RESIDENT EVIL 5 REVIEW:

the JAPS are totally different from the candians, americans, etc.they make games and they make it differently.

after sensational titles like LOST PLANET EXTREME CONDITION,DEVIL MAY CRY series,STREET FIGHTER series,CAPCOM comes with the fifth installment of resident evil series named RESIDENT EVIL 5 or BIOHAZARD 5. also if you have not played any of these then i will say that YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY PLAY THESE..

you are CHRIS REDFIELD and your partner is sheva alomar.the environment set is AFRICA.your mission??investigation and prevention of spreading of mutation of virus.biological weapons consequences have set in and your job is to go deep into it..

Kenichi Ueda Yasuhiro Anpo and Jun Takeuchi have done a splendid job.i have always been a fan of jap games..and this doesnt disappoint a bit.

unlike western games, japs are more inclined towards cinematic experience.they put a lot of emotions, storylines, character differences and blend it superbly to create an awesome atmosphere of the game.timely cinematics blend perfectly to keep the andrelaine pumping and the action going.

the characters designed are also good.since you are in africa blacks will be your primary target.and damn they have animated them beautifully.the lighting system and the graphics engine used is a sweet deal.bright sun, shaddy interiors, and blood.

speaking of blood this game is ALL ABOUT BLOOD.there is a lot of GORE in this..and that is where this game is fun to play.so for those weak hearted well dont play it...

ill not indulge more into it and will advise you to play it and experience it.

if you have not played CAPCOM games before then well..you are not a GAMER..go get this and if not also DEVIL MAY CRY 4 and LOST PLANET.

the only prob is somewhat with the camera system..sometimes it doesnt move fast..but its a minor glitch and can be handled.

                            overall rating.

                            ****.75
