  • CBR 250 or Joel'd R15 ???

    Guys,

I know we already had this thread, but it was closed as the CBR was not in market. Now that the CBR has been launched and tested, I would request you to help me out with this,

I currently have an R15 slightly Joel'd with the,

165CC Block, Air Filter and his ECU.

The setup is real good, but is it upto the CBR 250's mark in terms or Handling and Performance?

My current setup runs approximately at 21hp , as you all know R15 kerbs 125Kg + am a 65 Kg rider. So will a 25hp motor on a 167 Kg machine make any difference?

The current setup that I have is performing miles ahead of any stock R15, but on the other hand my bike is not as reliable as stock anymore. I have to make some compromises here and there to enjoy the performance.

I heard CBR is very quite thats a nother reason to think about it. My stock R15 was butter smooth until 10K Kms and now that its over 25K Kms its harsh in lower gears at High RPMs. This 165CC block has added a little to the harshness too. (Running on Motul Full Synthetic 15W40)

    So what you think?

Is this better to switch over to the CBR250 or Try additional modding or some more 'Joeling' on my current R15 like altered cylinder head, cam or even the next size 176CC block etc etc.

Note: I will not be able to use Joel's exhaust as Policemen here are in deep love with those exhausts.

      A stock R15, modified R15, & stock CBR250R are completely different bikes.

Further mod-jobs on your R15 will make it better than a stock R15, but the CBR250R will still be better with the bigger mill & stock reliability.

It seems to me that all you are bothered about is the power output.
The R15 & CBR250R are completely different bikes, & with the number of reviews we have here, the CBR250R is not a high-revving bike, and has great torque. The riding posture is also very different on the CBR250R.
I'd suggest you to take a test ride and decide for yourself if the bike satisfies your requirements.

don't go for CBR250R as you already have slightly joeled R15, it won't be a considerable upgrade in terms of power but yeah if you want a bike with better comfort then only go for CBR250R..you can save money & later go with bigger bike in 600cc category..

I had a test ride of the CBR250R day before yesterday what i can say is even the joeled R15 will find it difficult to beat it. But its a big BUT if someones wants peaky performance not bothered about size cost etc. a heavily modded R15, modded to beat the CBR will definitely be a better machine. CBR is like a big ZMA with better performance very sorted out machine with all the peace of mind stuff. But the Kid in anyone can only be exploited by the R15.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

Could'nt advice as I have not ridden CBR250R, but if I were in your place I would have upgraded the current machine itself. Still, take a test ride and go with what your heart say.

Do you own a fully blown JOEL'ed R15?

Will not want to get into an argument regarding which is better... but will want to highlight a fact (and it is an undisputed fact)... a R15 with Joel's parts will still cost less than a CBR... the value/cost proposition is undeniably in Joel's parts... rest you may debate till the cows come home ..

                how about a Joel'd CBR250R.

he has promised that he'll be coming up with mods for the bike.

That might start another thread Joel'd CBR or a Ninja . I think it depends on the moolah as well because i think a Joel'd R15 costs lesser than the CBR and plus they are completely different bikes. Depends on what you want.

You'd be pleasantly surprised with the amount of torque at Low-Mid and High rev range my bike currently makes even when compared to the Ninja and Stock R15.

@HarishK: Have seen the CBR250 at the local dealer and got a good feel of it too and I wasn't impressed. Overhyped is the first word that comes to my mind. It's your choice and if you must buy a bigger bike then go for CBR/Ninja after you get a thorough test ride. Ninja still stands as the better 250 currently IMO But I'm looking forward to a proper test ride of the CBR250 and see what the hype is all about.

Its all because of the PRICE mate...

@HarishK: If you want peace of mind go for the CBR and keep it stock as you said you are making compromises with the current souped R15...But if power output is what you are looking for I would say CBR250 wont be a decent upgrade!!! Take a proper test ride...that will clear the air for you

Maybe, you can describe this part a little. What way is it not as reliable as stock?

I have an R15 and i like my bike a lot but CBR is a good 250 cc with good low and mid range grunt, but not a high revving machine and as far as a joeled r15 is concerned, how much of "joel-ing" are we talking about here (since you already have a big bore ), and also nothing beats stock bike reliability. But as reviews go, a juiced up r15 is definitely a lot more fun than a cbr. I would suggest you go for more mods only if you want to hit the track and limit it to streets.

                            To sum up -
R15 - the best 150 cc sports bike in the world
                            CBR250 - A good 250 cc sports tourer
Ninja 250 - The best 250cc in the world, a genuine allrounder here.
R15 Modded by joel - I am really trying to figure this out for myself right now.

P.S - All the above is strictly my personal opinion.

Dont want to get into fights, But a souped up 2st would whoop most of the bikes around. (& still cost less than a r15)
