  • is karizma R outdated

2012 is just around the corner and Karizma has been first launched around 10 years back. no major change in engine or performance has been made ever since. Is it a good choice to go for Karizma R in this time. I prefer this over others in the current market. but my major concerns are
    1) lack of fuel injection.( most of the new models have that)
    2) no tubeless tyres
    3) no rear disc brake
    4) headlamp
    5)leg guard
is there any scope for upgrades in the near future?
or should i book one at the earliest.
i find it easier to handle pulsar 220, but the engine and maintenance scares me. i am more inclined to the reliable HH.

AFAIK Fuel injection increases maintenance cost's and if not maintained properly,It can tear your pocket.

      2) no tubeless tyres
Yes,You can get the ZMR's tubeless tires.

      3) no rear disc brake
Not a big need for a 223cc bike with 17hp.

      4) headlamp
      Yes,Could be of better.

      5)leg guard
You can fix it,Many had fitted Stunners crash guard in Karizma.

is there any scope for upgrades in the near future?
Its HH,Most probably no way for an upgrade soon.

      Just my personal thoughts.

Well I cannot comment on the ZMA, I do not own it. But your worries about the 220's engine and high maintenance costs are unfounded. The engine is rough all right. Whether you like that or not is your choice. But it has no reliability issues at all. On the maintenance front, let me assure you that other than periodic maintenance no other costs are incurred. Even parts that are needed to be changed are much cheaper of Bajaj than other companies.
Anyways all the best on the purchase of the ZMA
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I was talking about the "Adulterated Fuel Issue".Read in the ZMR Thread that use of Adulterated Fuel in ZMR had leads to damages to some FI system and lead to a replacement. So if the bike is in warranty,it will be covered in warranty, otherwise it will make a hole in our pocket.

              Sir,Am i missing something?

You can get almost whatever you want in ZMA-R in ZMR as these are the only major changes ZMR got over ZMA-R so if you think ZMA-R is outdated because of these reasons then you can opt for ZMR. It is of higher price but then better technology comes with a price..

yes, it would be nice if we had one but it is not that bad in braking department though.

                  4) headlamp

Yes, poor headlamps and horns as well.

                  5)leg guard

no need of a leg guard though, and this is not lack of technology. many sports bikes dont have one(e.g. R15, Ninja 250R) and Karizma is a sports tourer.

Being a hardcore P220 fanboy and a ZMA user, I'd recommend you go for the P220, cause the ZMA aint for amateur's, and I learnt it the hard way. Owning a ZMA's just like owning an Enfield. So I guess you can fill the rest out ..

Well, if one is little careful, they can avoid refuelling at adulterated fuel stations.

Both 220 and zma are good bikes in their own ways. But since you are more inclined towards zma i personally feel that u need to book one rather than confusing yourself. As per my expereince the pros & cons of both the bikes are as follows.

                        Karizma Pros

                        1. Relaxed engine (17bhp only @ 7000rpm) leads to reliability
                        2. Excellent breaking (276mm front disc)
                        3. Decent top end (140 kmph)
                        4. Kick starter
                        5. Good for commuting and the king of touring

                        Karizma cons

                        1. Weak headlamp (30/35 halogen) compared to 220's projector
                        2. Notchy fibre's
                        3. 100/18 rear tire (subjective) compared to 220's 120 rear
                        4. No engine kill switch (subjective)
                        5. Absence of tubeless tires (subjective)

                        220's pros

                        1. Drag king and good Top end (145 kmph) (21bhp at 8500 rpm)
                        2. Digital speedo with extras goodies
                        3. Powerful head lamps with projectors
                        4 Tubeless tires
                        5. Rear disc break

                        220's cons

                        1. Revs more (more stress on engine when compared to karizma)
                        2. Breaking (bad compared to zma)
                        3. No kick starter
                        4. Rear view mirrors get useless after speeds like 70 due to vibes
                        5. Pillion seat not as comfy as zma

If u wish to buy a 220 go for it but make sure you maintain it like your baby. If u need a zma to perform like a 220 after 5000 kilometers just install a k&n and upjet the carb. Upgrade your spark plug to a ngk iridium and put split fire cables and see the difference. As i mentioned earlier both bikes are good but it depends upon individual taste.

PS: (If your worried about zma getting phased out realize that you still get spares in the market for a hero honda cd sleek/100).

Just my opinion guys. Please don't pounce on me

While comparing the Fazer 150 with ZMA, In my opinion Fazer has got a Edge over ZMA even with a lesser capacity engine.

Its just because of the new age design and ergonomics, which remain untouched in ZMA. Also I wouldn't call the ZMR a proper timely upgrade for ZMA, rather call for a CBR 250R .
