  • Yamaha YZF R15 V2.0 OR the new KTM Duke 200 !!!!!

Hey guys please help me I've a query.
I'm about to get a bike for myself in 2-3 months.

My daily riding distance will be between 28 and 35 kms. (40% highway and rest in city, Gurgaon)

Confused between the R15 V2.0 or Duke 200 as they are priced similarly.

Budget - Max. 1.4 lakhs but if my dad refused it will go down to 90K which means only one thing for me ( TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS)

Help me out with all positives and negatives plus i'm specifically concerned about Duke's mileage because it's damn powerful.

First confirm with you dad about the budget
Both R15 & Duke200 will give you around 35kmpl in the city riding AFAIK.
Why don't you wait for P200NS just about to be launched. Looks smashing and with the solid Bajaj track record of mileage it will give you 35-40kmpl in the city. Also at Delhi it would be priced aroun 1L on-road. You dad will also be happy and you can get some good riding gears with the worthy money saved.
      Whats there in a signature?

Both R15 and KTM are good options. And if your budget goes down, I would suggest Karizma.

          AFAIK,
Performance wise Duke may give you more pleasure, but R15 would be the best looking bike in that segment.

So you have to decide whether you are a naked bike lover or your adrenaline pumps up on seeing a fully flaired sexy looking bike.

          Performance,handling,braking duke would be better

Looks, mileage, cornering ability R15V2 is the choice

          Hope that reply helps.!

Define your needs a bit more clearly

Hi blitzkrieg809, Apart from the budget shed some light on your preferences, so we could help you out better.

Both bikes are from two different segments. one is a naked bike and other a fully faired track oriented bike.

It is not fair comparing both. On mileage front follow the ownership thread of both the bikes. R15 when driven sanely can give you 40 kmpl and Duke I am not sure, two days back someone posted getting 56kmpl (Still I cant believe it, so see it for yourself)

Duke is short geared, awesome performance and light and a great city rider. Not that great on highways IMHO.

R15 is very much track oriented, extremely flickable, great cornering ability and good on highways. Pillion seat is a pain in the a$$.

Also have a look at CBR150R.

And if your budget falls within 1L, P200 NS may be the way to go and since you are 2 months away from getting your bike have a taste of P200 befor you decide.
            CBR250R |
            Bajaj Pulsar 180 - dts i |
            Bajaj CT 100

Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight.

It was not that far on the map.

              Thanks guys for your response

It's just KTM always make more sense to me but whenever i see a R15 on road, my heart just melts like chocolate and i just can't think about putting money on anything else (It looks smashing, no one can refuse that).

About P200NS, umm i don't know...I read the review(nothing against bajaj), but when i put P200NS, Duke and R15 in a line......you know, i just can't look beyond the neon orange beast and the 150cc god. Just can't

Regarding priority to pillion comfort, yeah i will be riding single most of the time but i can't omit it from my list completely (you know what i mean )

I'm just skeptical about KTM's mileage, maintenance and spare parts cost. :/

I need a bike to ride to my college daily. My home's 15 kms away from my college and out of that around 7 kms is on highways.

                What i want -

                Style
                Power
                Reliability
Solid Build (yamaha standard, for a reference)
Mileage( not below than 30 kmpl, but more never hurtss, does it ? )
About CBR150R, bro after taking a look at 250R's build quality (shaking plastics all around) and reading about some horrendous ownership reviews, i can only guess what 150R will be.......

If you mean old karizma then

Its outdated man and low on mileage (from what i've heard).

My dad's quite open minded but in the end i've to ask a middle aged Indian person to spend close to 1.5 lacs on a two wheeler, not an easy task by any standards....

If your budget is below 1Lakh.

                        Then consider ZMA-R

it Gives me 40+ Kmpl in Bangalore city driving
Again it depends on your driving style.

No man, it's outdated and everywhere. If i buy it won't give me the excitement a NEW bike should give because you know it's everywhere....in less words.....ZMA doesn't excites me

Duke gives a steady 35kmpl. But you should probably buy an R15 and get it joeled to R17 . (check out the thread - my pocket rocket R16). A joeled R15 easily beats the duke and even the cbr. But you shouldn't actually put so much weight on your dad. I myself am on a similar situation. I was considering an R15 / duke , my dad agreed, but one day i heard him talking to my mom about money issues ,and that incident made me change my mind and i opted for the 200ns. It will cost under 1L , churns out 23.5 bhp and gives decent mileage as bajaj claims. And if you ever need more perfomance , joel is the way to go

                            Currently owned : HH Splendor [1995 - Still Have it] , Pulsar 200NS [2012]
                            Future plans : R1 by 2017 , I hope :D

don't think too much, buy a rtr if your dad allots less budget or get a r15 in case you have more budget, don't forget to include the cost of riding gears in your budget.

p.s.=if you are in college please don't take the burden of ownership of a fancy bike.save money, make your dad happy, there is always a ninja or duke or cbr on the cards when you start earning your money.

and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
                              #overkill is underrated.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.
