  • Fed up of p220

I bought my p220 (non fi) in 2009.

Since then i had invested a huge amount on its maintenance, specially on engine .

Its been the 3rd time 4 years the cylinder kit has been changed..

My average driving is about 100kms per day...

Please suggest if i should go for a new bike

    Which byk will be suitable?

    Re: Fed up of p220

    What Bike query approved.

    100 kms/ day.
That means 1 Lacs+ kms in just 3 years. That also means one paid/free service every 25 days. And approximately, 14 services per year.

My question: Did you get your P220 serviced properly every month? And oil changed every 2 months?

If you did not, than don't get a bike. No bike is able to survive without getting serviced once in a while. Are you getting my point? Your usage is too harsh, I believe.

Anyways, try out Karizma R. Maybe it could survive long hours of usage due to lesser revs?

Try your luck with the enfield brother.. As samarth said, no mere four stroke bike can survive that kind of abuse without serious preventive maintenance every month atleast... 36,000 kms a year is a bit too much..

I am afraid you suggested the wrong bike to him, buy an Enfield only if you know how to treat it and live with it.

Its the only large engined bike i know under 3l and that can take the pressure of such heavy running.. Yes maintenance is a bit more but atleast it will survive..

100kms per day??? I wonder if you are a biker or a rider? Honestly, please take care of your health especially all the joints in your body!!!

Now, 100kms per day is way too much. Any bike would not survive such an abuse. If you want to keep the bike in upbeat condition, I just cannot imagine how much you will have to spend on maintenance and preventive maintenance as well. 3 cylinder kits in 4 years shows your loyalty to the bike .

If I were you, I would service the existing bike completely and keep it aside in tip-top condition for personal/family/pleasure ride use only.
I would then get a used splendor or Victor for my job purposes as these bikes are low on running costs. By that way I can abuse them as much as needed and then "bhej dhe..." Cycle repeats. Think about this deeply mate and you will find the benefit in it for you. Unfortunately there isn't any bike that can neither withstand this torment nor it is worthy enough to spend so much money on the bike.

Enfield will most of the time be in the service center.. not a good bike to suggest (don't take it otherwise)

@TS.. how much have you completed on your bike..

another question to you is.. are you commuting/riding everyday for 100kms since you purchased Pulsar??

if you are using it since day one to commute 100kms per day.. then I can assure you that your bike has been loyal to you and treating you just fine.. any bike in India would fall apart under such riding conditions..

Preserve her and as advised, take a smaller vehicle which can satisfy your needs in terms of maintenance..

              Cheers,

                Re: Fed up of p220

                Sir thanks for ur advice....

Actually my daily commute is 80kms which is fixed except for sundays and holidays.
As i am into sales and marketing job so i have to travel by byk locally and ncr so an average of 2500-3000kms monthly is justified....

Donno but fellow riders whom i know also say that bajaj is not trustworthy in terms of engine and maintenance
Although their costs are highly competetive

                  Re: Fed up of p220

I can relate to your daily commuting as I have been there, done that myself. - I, the commuter!! (Bangalore xBhpian's title for me!) Any bike will do but it will do only with timely/routine maintenance. Many a times, I have had situations when my bike desperately needs servicing but I was unable to service it due to work. I give due credit to my Yammie FZ for that reliability. I am sure your P220 can easily move on with a bit of maintenance and servicing. If you're fed-up with the power delivery and rest of the aspects then it's a different scene. Or maybe you can go for a low end bike for daily abuse and 'once in a blue moon' maintenance.

So you have been travelling atleast 80 kms per day since you purchased your bike, right?? which means you probably completed 1,00,000 on the odo and still continuing.. trust me.. if this is the case.. you are one hell of a lucky guy and you have been maintaining your bike properly..

Not only bajaj.. all the ASC are equally bad.. gone are those days when the proper servicing of bikes were done.. I remember a proper service in the year 2001 took them almost a day where they did every possible thing to keep the bike in perfect condition.. but these days.. they just look for the number of services done per day as they are paid accordingly.. not the quality of servicing..

in terms of wear and tear... Yes.. Bajaj's spares do wear out quicker than the other manufacturers.. but look on the bright side.. the spares are not as costly as the other manufacturers..

regarding the engine oil.. why not try the Fully Synthetic Engine Oils?? say from Motul, Shell.. go for anything around 15W50 to 20W50 if 20W50 is the recommended grade of Oil..

I salute your ride by the way.. and pls post a pic of that Pulsar which took all the hard beatings

My suggestion would be to keep that piece of machinery and get yourself a good commuter.. heard the Centuro from Mahindra is doing well and has loads of new technologies which is a good package all together..

I am truly happy to see that a bajaj product has lasted this long and I would suggest you to keep it as it is very rare to see a person completing 1,00,000 on the odo.. thats a bonding man.. I am gonna keep my ZMR forever and will keep her for my kids and grand kids to probably one day rebuild her engine like how we do for RX series, RD 350, KB series and Yezdi thats gonna be an achievement for me

Are you sure, check TVS prices too if you think Bajaj is pricey.

Its not only about oil change, its about how you ride and in what conditions. Engine oil can also perish within 1500kms if you keep on doing redlining.
Try Motul 5100 or Shell AX7

Up to you...I did 290xx Km in precise 365 days which works close to 80 Km a day, which is pretty much same as yours just that I rode a Honda, CBR 250R
