• New bike advice!!Apache RTR 160 vs Yamaha FZ vs Pulsar 135ls

hi everyone,
So I am planning to buy my new bike, and am facing the dilemma faced by everyone.Which bike to buy.I have narrowed it down to 3.Apache 160RTR,
pulsar 135ls, and the Yamaha FZ.
I am a 19 year old student, and i wont be needing the bike for more than 5km-6 per day.
The problem is I am fairly lean and short 5'6.
My budget is below 80k.
So here are the pros and cons for these 3 in my humble opinion.Kindly weigh in and correct me if i am wrong.

Apache 160
pros-power, performance, speed
cons-Oh my god, the looks. Why did the have to spoil a perfectly good looking model. Is there any place I can get a old Apache model?

Pulsar 135LS
pros- performance, mileage, looks and the Pulsar name tag.
Cons- Ive heard that Pulsars start to trouble the user after a year or so and are high maintenance bikes??True??Please help.

Yamaha FZ
There's one big doubt I have.The difference between FZ-S and FZ 16
pros- handling power speed performance looks
cons-weight, perhaps will look a bit too bulky on me, cost

So these were my opinions.Kindly weigh in guys. Also please suggest any other bike if you can think of any.
Thanks.

Re: New bike advice!!Apache RTR 160 vs Yamaha FZ vs Pulsar 135ls

Can't comment on the other bikes since I have just ridden the FZ and Apache 160.

Of the three, FZ might be a good choice with what's on offer - monoshock, brute looks, beefy tyres and good performance for the daily commute. I have heard that the mileage is meh (45km/l) but that shouldn't be an issue for you.

Even I liked the older version of Apache. Now, it just has broader lines, new graphic work and the same engine and nothing of note on offer.

As for the 135, My Pulsar 135LS has turned 3 today and it has been a brilliant companion. Looks contemporary in comparison to its bigger siblings, consistent mileage (55-60kmpl) and can give the above two a run for their money in a drag race and has a decent top whack of 110-115km/h. The flaw is that the engine is stressed so mid-range vibes are very evident. But it offers a balanced package in terms of looks, economy and performance. Not to say, it ll be atleast 10K cheaper than the FZ and Apache!

And no, maintenance will be well within budget if serviced regularly and maintained well.

One advice, if you do go for the P135, make sure you are not duped with the TVS tyres they are putting in the Pulsar range these days.

Its very simple bro all the bikes you shortlisted are good...if you are lookng for great speed, handing, performance, city rides than go zip zap zoom on apache, if you want greater stability, good suspension, touring and great tyres go for FZ Series...and if you want good mileage, performance go for pulsar135ls..
Since you will b riding only 6 kms daily i dont think mileage is an issue for you..
And regarding your old apache query it has been re-entered in market already you can check in your nearest dealer...
Cheers!!!

You can manage a good used bike.. the running is so low that even if you get a bad bike you won't have any trouble for atleast an year. Try out bikes like these in pune.

Thanks for the advice mate..But is Pulsar 135 a good choice as far as power is concerned??I mean for a road trip will it be a liability..also I've heard, as Pulsars get older they start to make a lot of noise, it it true??

Thanks for the reply. The one big problem with FZ is that will it suit me?I am only 5'6 and pretty skinny.Still I rode it and it moves like a charm.Nice bike, but still mileage is a bit of a concern.

Abhinav Nayyar The 135LS can give the 160 a run for its money in a drag only if the 160's rider forgets to turn on his engine

Since you are 5'6 i dont think it will be a problem with the FZ..Im 5'5 and my friends fz suits me well i like the bike but feels little underpower(may be coz i have an rtr160)& the mileage is a big concern for long rides. It gives max 40 in highways. It all depends on you dude as i mentioned the pros and cons of these bikes earlier.
And yes pulsars will become a packet of garbage after two years and will suck your money a lot for maintenance,,,

Cocky much Well I said this from my personal experiences of impromptu drags on the Noida DND Flyway. The age old adage looks good here - Its not just about the bike, its about the rider as well!

The answer is pretty simple mate, just go for RTR160, perfect bike. . . It's light, it's quick and it's cool, only thing that sucks are the stock tires and vibrations, tires you can change as an exchange to some good ones. . . About the vibrations, just forget it bro and see for yourself, you'll really love the beast . . . I too had this kinda bad opinion but after my cousin gave me his 180 to ride for a day, now whenever I feel like riding it, I get his . . . The bike is cool, best handling of the three, superb brakes than the three and a bit on the powerful side too, also not to forget good for college use and will suit your height. . . Just go with it, you'll be fine. . .

PS: You will get both old and new models in the market now . . .

Cheers!!!

Yep. Rider is the main factor as the performance difference isn't too much between these bikes. All said, RTR has an edge over the other two as far as pure performance is concerned
harrypotter.27 If performance and fun are the main criteria, get the RTR160 or even an RTR180. You may even love the rev hungry engine, clip ons and the sporty riding position. You'll get dual discs as an option too.

If smooth engine and pure naked looks are what you're looking at, get the FZ. It's almost vibe free.

Get the 135LS, if budget and mileage are more important(shouldn't matter much considering you'll use less than a liter a week).

You can't go wrong with any of them. But TR all of them thoroughly and get the one that feels closest to your heart. Trust me, that 5-6km a day will change to 10-20 or even more
