Re: Good bike for commuting 80km a day

Thanx for the great responses.. never expected this much.
So currently am left with the only option as Karizma ZMR
P200NS is also fine but am still not convinced about the riding stance of the same. It looks a bit upright position. Having ridden my FZ over 5 years, I feel the riding stance of the CB unicorn and the avenger is the best suited for long commutes .

Also FI is currently available on the ZMR only (among my choices). I had gone to a showroom nearby and did a bit of window shopping  on the hero karizma. The bike does feel bulky but still with a huge body and small tyres, the overall balanced look is not present

I dropped the trigger as it hasnt recorded huge sales and I have rarely seen one on road

So finally my plan is either the zmr or refurbish my 5-yr old FZ (still don't feel like selling the bike as I feel a strong bond with it ).

Remaking of FZ seems to be a good option, you can always go for zmr as your first bike and keep fz for city commuting or rare highway riding.

The FI while it has its advantages over emission and precise fueling is also sensitive to bad fuels at local pumps, If you fill bad fuel at remote areas then you'll have to get the injectors cleaned atleast once every 10-15k kms. Carbs are slightly more forgiving in this matter. The P200NS is really a great bike at its price, A liquid cooled bike is anyday better than air cooled performance bikes. It comes with excellent chassis and a 6 speed gearbox too which aids in high speed cruising. The 200ns definitely returns better mileage among your bike choices at speeds of 100 and above. If you ride in mountainous area more, then having liquid cooled bike makes more sense due to demanding situations engine has to undergo. If i were you i'd have picked P200NS without second thought.
        Fun Starts at Redline!!!

How does pulsar 200ns engine sounds after running for whole day and that too at redline, and the consumption of engine oil.

It sounds the same depending upon engine health, oil condition and other engine factors. Whole day at redline? do you have roads for such stunts? The 200ns engine is based out of duke 200 engine which is pint sized cracker of an engine. Now that you are talking about redline, the 200ns with its 4 valves breathes much better at the top giving you excellent top end rush with very less heatup compared to other air cooled engines in your list. The engine oil consumption depends upon multiple factors and one of them is caused by the piston rings giving up prematurely cause of more wear due to overheating/less lubrication. The liquid cooled engines are generally better in taking heat off the engine and lesser hot spots inside the cylinder because of the coolant jacket running all around.
Take a test ride of all the vehicles you have shortlisted and now that you are talking about redlining, redline all the bikes in 2,3 and 4 gears atleast. Come back tell your story, i'm sure you'll fall in love with the 200ns.

I am not talking of stunts, if you are stunting on a bike you are destroying the bike moreover you are risking other people lives, plus our roads are not good for even normal riding let alone the spirited riding, what i wanted to know is that if someone wants to ride the bike for say 5 to 600 kms in a single day on highway at 80 to 90 speeds continuously then how does engine sounds, yes you are right liquid cooled engines are best and particularly for our country which gets so hot in summers, i have just rode this bike once or twice but the bike was absolutely new and obviously engine sound was quite good, but i didn't rode the bike for very long and very fast, plus i found a issue in the new bike, bike was trying to lean on one side and i have to continuously correct the handle to keep her in straight line.

I completed 1200 kms in one day at constant speess of 100-110 on zmr.. engime sounds the same.. no extra noise.. engine oil level remained the same throughout my 5 days ride of 5200 kms from New Delhi to Coimbatore and back.. changed the oil twice and after coming back. Havent left the bike for service and the engine still sounds the same. Have to get the oil changed though.. didnt have time. Wil get it changed tomorrow hopefully. I still ride it as my office is just 3 kms from my house

Man Delhi to Coimbatore you are one rider, but your vehicle was zmr and bajaj is totally different from Hero, although the 200ns engine is 80% ktm, but the main upper part is of bajaj so the suspicion always remains there that what would be the effect on engine after longer rides

If you maintain constantly around 100-110 then 200ns returns around 43kmpl. It has been part of our group ride many times and it returns 40kmpl even under moderate thrashing which is very good. You may feel this as strange because it belts out much more HP than ZMR and yet return good mileage. In fact my 220 too returns unbelievable 52-53kmpl around 80-85kmph constant, even if i cruise around 110kmph-115kmph on speedo 220 returns around 45kmpl. The bad mileage examples sometimes one quotes are for badly tuned carbs screwed up by mechanics at svc's, otherwise the pulsar returns excellent fuel efficiency. The Bajaj somehow is the leader in all the segment with respect to mileage. Even the SIAM tests confirm the same. Check below pdf for reference if you dont believe. (100cc -discover 100, 150cc - discover 150 and pulsar 220 @ 54kmpl )

From my own personal experience with the Bajaj bikes that they give high mileage as compared to any brand till date in india in every segment

Re: Good bike for commuting 80km a day

The commuting is 80kms daily. So these are the points I think would play a good role in your choice.

Distance - 80+kms Daily i.e. Good amount of distance.

The power class you need - Certainly 150cc if not above.

Riding Position - Comfortable ( You only can decide the limit of comfort you want)

Handling - A moderate handling will just do for you.

FE- Your usage will be high. So a bike with descent FE should be in order.

Brand - Subjective. Some are brand loyal, some see the potential of the product.

Reliabily- Bike should be damn reliable. No compromises there.

Price- You only set the limit.

A.S.S. - Don't let this factor make you back off if you decide on something.

Tip for you- TD, TD and TD. Don't hesitate to take as much as TD's you want. Its your hard earned money and it should be spend on something good.

                                Best of luck sir.
