Hello guys , Some previous days ago i was looking for a bike under 1 lac. But my parents agreed to by me bigger bike because my cousins got big bikes too and they dont want me behind.Im Punjabi. Studying in +2 class.

    Body information
    Height 5'7 Inch
    Weight 62 KG
    Age Almost 18

Im buying bike on august 24 , I will turn 18 on august 24 and will get my license.

Im considering three bikes that are KTM Duke 200 , CBR 250 STD and Hero Karizma ZMR 2014

Area information - I live in village 3 KMS from small Town called Fatehgarh Churian that is 30 km away from Amritsar. Roads are filled with pathholes everywhere except a small highway road called batala road ..

Going to buy bike on basis of:-

    1. My commute daily is on 50% village poth hole roads and 50% Highway .

    2. My Dad also ride bike. My dad wears turban and hes 60 year old . He is of that age but my dad knows how to handle a military bullet. My dad was in military and worked in Leh, Kargil and Nagaland for years.

    3. Pillion comfort will not be issue , My mom has tested seat of Duke 200 and found it ok.

    4. I ride 90% solo and only sometimes with pillion.

5.I want top speed of 140 minimum , Only for some occasions such as NH1 Highway riding.

    6. I always cruise at 80-100 DAILY. I got TVS Jive which is a vibrator at 90 kmph.

    7. Suspension comfort is not necessary.

    8. I need Safety our village roads are always slippery.

    Query Approved

Your reason for a bigger bike is awesome

Ride safe and safety on most roads will be by going a bit slower
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

LoL.. Had it been my parents, they would have asked "Your Cousins have scored better marks than you and earn more than you".

Usually, faired bikes don't do good in roads filled with Potholes.. the fairing mounts come out of their position and the plastic starts rattling. I don't think it will be a good option to get a Faired bike if you ask me. unless you love them.. If you do, then CBR250 with no doubt unless you are looking for Fuel Economy..

I hope you aren't serious about this.

Anyways. 140 kmph is a bit too much to ask for from the Karizma ZMR.. it can at max do 134 kmph..

To Be Honest, 140 kmph is a bit too fast if you ask me.. unless you can handle the bike at that speed.. to satisfy this requirement, you will have to again go with the CBR250.. unless you can spend 2L and get the Duke 390 which is just another 30K more than the CBR250.. Did I just read Vibrator?

To be honest, riding any bike is safe as long as you ride it safely.. but if you are really concerned about slippery roads, get yourself a Duke 390.. comes with ABS and best factory fitted tires..

The tires play an important role in safety as well...

All in All, test ride all these bikes and take your decision. Remember, it is you who is going to be riding the bike.. Not the person who is suggesting you.. you shouldn't feel why didn't I listen to my heart..

I wish my cousin would buy a HP4 , Comes to your point a even a semi faired bike will trouble you on poth hole and as you will have to ride it on daily basis a faired one will require very much attention and love to handle & maintain , in this case get a CBR250 ABS version as safety is always on top and budget is not a problem.

If you can not handle a faired machine in potholes then get Duke 200, but it does not comes with ABS, but its precise in all dept compared to its segment and yes, you can get Duke 390, its a naked master piece equipped with ABS and Metzlers and can fulfill you 140 KMPH easily and beyond that also if you want .

But as you are just 18, I would suggest you to hold your horses, 140 KMPH is too much for Indian roads, get a mid range power bike (Duke 200) and start learning & developing skills of biking and then think beyond and yes don't forget to plan buying riding gears with bike...

            Hehe...nicely put reason there.

Firstly, NH1 may be wide open, and traffic is sparse on that side comparative, but 140 is not safe. Practical is 100 to 125Kmph, if you are pushing too hard.

Secondly, suspension of Duke is to hard and you wont be comfortable riding it on potholed roads, just a heads up.

Thirdly, CBR 250R does not come fitted with best tyres around for slippery conditions. Tyres for Duke 200 are better, 390 are best.

Decide for yourself of you need a faired bike or naked, aggressive power surges (read Duke 200) or a torque-y ride (read CBR250). Test ride, and you will know.

            Cheers

I decided KTM Duke 200 , But my father tells me that get CBR 150 .. My father is scared from KTM design as he thinks its a extreme racer and prone to accidents .. Of course CBR 150 can pull at 150kmph . But KTM is a best handler for village . KTM has best turning radius and size is great too . How to convince dad for KTM 200 lol ?

don't convince him but give him valid points.. and see your safety is all in your hands.. we can understand young blood at 18 but then always wondering about top speed wont get you anywhere dude. i own a cbr but given your conditions duke fits for your height and build and riding conditions and budget...

Firstly, CBR 150 can't do 150kmph atleast stock bike can't do.
Secondly, why you are focusing on top speed first you should know the machine very well how it behaves. Also consider Pulsar 200 NS it will also be suitable in your mentioned road conditions.
Lastly do buy atleast a helmet if not full gears

If you are taking CBR250, consider the ABS version. Gives you more safety. Go for it if you love supersport models.

For your built and road conditions, Duke200 will be a good choice and it offers many goodies for the price. A better acceleration too. Can be easy to control in city. Plus the Alien look.

CBR 250 Out of list. Im not focusing in top speed guys.. I have outrun a Stunner and Discover 150 on my TVS Jive. My dad sold stunner and when i ridden stunner the pulsar 150 have no chance to catch me. I RIDE IN FULL SAFETY , IM YOUNG BUT I KNOW MY LIMITS AND I ALWAYS PREFER SAFETY. IM ONLY ONE IN MY AREA WHO KNOWS COUNTER STEERING.. Thanks to Xbhp for posting safety threads. I test ridden duke 200 today and found it very good for my handling style. My foot are grounded when sitting on pulsar 200 ns bit i dont feel them grounded when sitting at NS , why ?CBR 150 and KTM 200 owners please post here how you ride bike in city , how this two bikes handle at narrowest city streets ?There is a turn in village where is main way to our fields , The turn is small canal bridge with no side guards and bridge is 15 foot wide only , Road is broken and its a 90 degree turn , which bike is good with that turn . My dad goes to farm everyday from that turn.

every bike is good for every turn ... as good as the riding skills are.... dont decide bike on basis of one turn
but only thing i can suggest you is go for the bike on which your feet is planted and is light weight.. which again comes back to duke 200..

First most important thing. Top speed should not at all be a criteria for choosing a bike. With accident rates increasing, and you just turning into 18, i would not suggest you any bike above 200cc.. Try duke200. Else 200NS, if you feel the suspension of duke is a bit hard. TD both these bikes. And yes. Don't forget to buy safety gears.
PS: If you claim you give importance to safety and stuff, then why did you ever mention a top speed of 140 MINIMUM in your first post? Just curious.

                              >so basically a motorcycle for attracting village people.
                              >Potholes + speed of 140Kmph= you will be in air.
                              >Cousins have big bikes so you want/agreed upon by parents(i doubt) a bigger bike,Cousin gets a fat pay cheque later in life gets even a bigger bike doing twice the top speed of your bike so you remain unhappy with whatever you buy now(and will always be unhappy because you are comparing yourself with others).

Go for a practical bike for the road conditions you mention, Top speed should not be a priority.
Please dont take it in a wrong way
