• ZMR 2014 or TB 500 ? Please Helpp !

Hello people,

This is my first post at xbhp. . Prior to this, i have been a silent visitor to this wonderful website.

I am 26 years, working in Bangalore. I have ridden the FZ (2009 version, friends bike) for around 1 and a half years.

I need a bike majorly for office commute (Approx 20kms a day) and a few touring stints (once in a month.). I have shortlisted the ZMR 2014 and the TB 500. I know they are different segment bikes and price difference is a lot too, but this is what i have narrowed it down to, based on the articles i have read and a very short test ride experience.

Before i take the plunge, i really would like (and appreciate) the xbhpians to put in there views on the above query. I plan on keeping this bike for at least 7 years. 2lakh is my budget. Please help me with your views regarding these bikes. It would really help me in taking a decision (or so i hope ). Just kidding.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Amar

if 2L is your budget, why not the CBR250.. it is the elder sibling of the ZMR with better power and torque.. it is as comfortable as the ZMR termed as a sports tourer.. infact you can get the ABS fitted CBR250 with your budget which is good enough safety wise..

if you are so sure about the ZMR 2014 or the TBS 500 then chuck down the above suggestion..

Are you a RE die hard fan? If yes, then I am sure you will end up with the Thunderbird.. its got very high torque and power as compared to the ZMR.. so there is no point in bringing out the performance figures here.. as Thunderbird will get past the ZMR.. though I feel the ZMR is as good a performer as the TBS500..

think about the Maintenance, After sales service, reliability..

Thank you rreneav1987 for your prompt response. I did try the CBR 250r, dint appeal much to me. PLus the ABS is close to 2.20lakh on road.

To answer your question, am not really a die hard fan of the RE. Everyone around me though have been booking a TB and it becomes difficult not to be a part of the discussions about RE. I did make up my mind of going in for the ZMR and saving close to 80k, but then again, am here, posting this query. .

So the TB is in picture only because of peer-pressure ? :S

Hi amar, in my opinion Zmr is better than TB.TB is more powerful than ZMR, but it is the quality and reliability where ZMR exceeds TB.nowadays RE bikes are suffering a lot with quality issues. My friends are suffering with many issues and they are saying RE has become poor in quality.and hero after sales service is much much better than RE. And RE bikes will vibrate a lot at high speed. These things I came to know through my friends circle and one if my frnd is working in RE Chennai

Zmr is a maintenance free bike comparatively.u search both ownership threads and decide for urself

Strictly keeping in view the usage of bike. I say go for ZMR.
Go for TB500 only if touring is the main purpose.
I myself own a Thunderbird 350, clocked close to 8k so far and 95% of that is touring. No niggles or problems with bike yet.

The ZMR excels both in city and highways with a very good FE which none in its class can even think of giving at good speeds on 90 kmph..

If its only because of peer pressure that you wanna go for RE then please avoid it buddy.. at the end it is you who is going to live with the bike.. my friend got the RE classic 350 and the maintenance is a bomb shell..

Go for the bike your heart says and not what your peers say.. because you shouldnt feel for it at the end..

Back in 2010, my mind was for R15 but heart was for Karizma.. i ended up with the ZMR and i find the engine still new.. as in no problems till now not so ever.. perfect for highways and city.. you can read through my Delhi to Coimbatore ride if you want to know the performance of the bike on highways.. doing 5200 kms in 5 days without any saddle sore or any body pain.. thats what Karizma twins are meant for..

Hi Eliksir, Not that anyone is forcing me, but just so happens that when everyone is going in for the same product, it does confuse a bit. But as i read more opinions on this thread, it feels like am gonna seal the deal for the ZMR ..

Hi Dinesh, Thank you for sharing your views on this. Sad to read about your friends' experiences. When i myself took the TB test ride, the speed-o-meter was vibrating in sync with the engine. I will take a final call soon.

Hi Amit, Good to know that you have not faced any issues. I am now inclined towards the zmr more than i ever was keeping in mind city usage would be primary. Thanks for your post, and enjoy your Bird.

Hats off to you buddy for that amazing feat. The bike does seem rock solid looking at what you achieved with it. I am leaning in favour of the zmr more than ever now. Just wanted to know, if there are a lot of potholes, does the fairing start to rattle ? If, yes, then is it an easy task to tighten them ? I am asking this because, the route i take has a pothole every 50 meters.

7 Years !!!! Hmmm. My mind goes straight towards ZMR.... Go for it. You would never repent. It wont give you the feel of a RE for sure, but utimate peace of mind in long run, is what you will get.

Thats a very common thing in faired bikes buddy.. plastic tends to rattle after a particular period of time.. I am definitely not sure about the new ZMRs but the previous generation ZMRs rattle after some point of time.. @Prateekjayant can give you better idea on the new ZMR as he is the first owner in xBhp..

thanks for bringing that up rreneav, had been wanting to talk about this for a long time,as far as rattling is concerned for the fairing part,i am not facing any problems at all ,there is some when the engine is in very low rpm or when you revv it too much in lower gears but apart from that the fairing is rock solid and is hanging tough and i am very satisfied with it,i think the main reason maybe because this fairing is quite lighter and well put up together than the previous zmr and the fairing is also divided in smaller sections rather than a whole big chunk of plastic which helps reduce a lot of vibrations i think..

The below DIY by @Divya Sharan has helped in reducing the vibrations in the fairing to a good extent.. @TS this could possibly help you as well in case you decide to go with the ZMR 2014 if you find heavy vibrations.. this would also prevent the fairing from rattling/moving out of place as it is rubber

oops! i thought i was replying in the zmr thread amar.yashpal i would suggest you that you should go for the zmr because when you purchase a bike ,you would want it to pamper you rather than you you pampering the bike, and if you purchase a re bike,i am sure that the second one will be the case because the re bikes are known for their hassles and as far as quality is concerned ,it is much much poor than the hero, and in the long run you will just end up in depression and regret that why did you buy this bike and that is when i think your money is wasted, whereas if you buy the cbr or zmr you will be always satisfied and happy with your bike and will be happy with your bike and that will give confidence that you made a right choice,as far as power figures are concerned of course the tb500 wins but i am not a huge fan of power figures and which bike is fastest and has the highest bhp but its the quality and riding comfort and most importantly the after sales service thats what matters to me,so in my opinion go for the zmr as you said that the cbr didnt impress you much,..

oops! i thought i was replying in the zmr thread @amar.yashpal i would suggest you that you should go for the zmr because when you purchase a bike ,you would want it to pamper you rather than you you pampering the bike, and if you purchase a re bike,i am sure that the second one will be the case because the re bikes are known for their hassles and as far as quality is concerned ,it is much much poor than the hero, and in the long run you will just end up in depression and regret that why did you buy this bike and that is when i think your money is wasted, whereas if you buy the cbr or zmr you will be always satisfied and happy with your bike and will be happy with your bike and that will give confidence that you made a right choice,as far as power figures are concerned of course the tb500 wins but i am not a huge fan of power figures and which bike is fastest and has the highest bhp but its the quality and riding comfort and most importantly the after sales service thats what matters to me,so in my opinion go for the zmr as you said that the cbr didnt impress you much,..
Performance wise the RE500 is better as it has higher torque.. but top end wise they would be the same..
