  • WHICH BIKE TO BUY Yamaha R15 or P220

    HI guys,

I am confused with which bike to own ?

    I have only 2 options i.e P220 or R15.

I am going to cover 60km daily way to my office (120km bothside).

    mileage is no issue.

i have gone through several threads for R15 and P220 but still confused.

i want to invest once for next 4-5 yrs.

As R15 is FI and with 6 gears a good technology same side P220 is a wild beast.

Both bike fights for 135+ km/hr speed.

i have heard that R15 shows it's power above 6k rpm, is this true?

i will going through the highways 60 km---40km of NH and remaining 20km city ride.

please suggest me which one to buy, because i need safety and comfortability too. i mean tyre, grips, performance , maintenence, future of the bike, and latest technology.

    Thanks in advance

i would suggest a 220. although the r15 has been an amazing performer on the track, i dont think u would be happy with its suspension setup on regular roads..

                R15 is the bike,

                Its an engineering marvel,

If you want to keep the bike for next 4-5 years then definately R15
                - Amazing performance.
                - True that it suffers on low end torgue, but on higher RPMs, R15 rocks
                - Nice posture to control the flow of the bike
                - Amazing braking,
                - Tyres are ok, you can change them for better grip
                - FI, 6 gears, a 150 cc bike delivering such high end performance, if this is not latest technology then what is?
                - Yamaha and Honda are much much better in evaluating the bike in the future as compared to Bajaj.....

I would say go for the R15 and you wont regret you decision......

                sigpic

Respect the nature and it will respect you back.....

                Cheers!!!!

If you wanted to scrap your knee and feel the adrenalin rush while making love with the corners then r15/RTR180 was better for you. r15 is perfect with its stock low profile tire. But you are going to ride daily to work which needs comfortable riding with soft suspension (P220F) and also you can feel the beast in 220 pulling you wildly...and one of the most powerful stock headlights are in 220F. Always listen your heart..you are in love with which bike...the one that makes your heart beats more faster than the others when you look at it,goes closer at it or even think about it.. if its r15 then just go for it.

                    Thread starter--
What bike do u already own ?
                    If nothing , then
Both of them are a good choice , If you want refinement, technology, Brilliant braking and suspension and the enjoy the ride quality , Then its the R15.
Affected by crosswinds.Much smoother than the 220. Awesome Gearbox and clutch , no false neutrals ever .Power below 4k is poor. some 125cc's pull better in the city :-D.
Im telling you this having ridden the R15 for 32k kms.
                    Quality of parts are brilliant.

VFM, Lovely useable torque , good braking, decent mileage and good lights and if more of highway riding , then the 220 is a better bet.
The extra weight helps keep the bike more stable on the highway, not affected by Crosswinds as much as the R15.
Better seating position for doing a 100+ kms everyday.Good FE.
No loss in power with pillion.
Quality of parts used are not upto the mark.
                    sOFTER suspension front and rear.
Overall a very good package .

                      Hello sir,

R-15 is for high end power, sporty seating, cornering and style. It definitely turns heads. But that wide body might scare you sometimes in the city traffic. Yes it is true that it gains power after 6k rpm. All this comes with a premium to be paid. I have heard that R15 doesn't have any maintanence problems. Only some spares are costly. Out of the two R15 engine is much ahead in terms of refinement. It is very smooth and as you said it has FI and 6 gears and this makes it a thecnologically advanced bike. But only yamaha dealers can service these bikes(I have heard so).

P220 is for raw power, modern gadgets, projector headlight(THE BEST) and bulky tires. There are two main drawbacks. It has good amount of vibrations at higher rpm and cornering will take time to get used to. But the best thing is the raw power. You can feel the beast pulling you even at lower rpm. Spares are cheap. Another aspect......service depends on the place you live and the dealer. P220 can deal with potholes better than the R15.

So based on your requirments choose one. Do take a test drive soon. Generally once you take test drive you'll know which is the one for you.
                      Choose wisely.......

                      100cc doing 100+ is awesome!!
150cc cornering like hell is great!

if you're plannin to keep the bike for 4-5 yrs then i would suggest the R15 cause it's a product of yamaha (you see the rx100 on the streets till now so u can imagine. compare it to the no. of the older pulsars on the streets) Bajaj gives you the BANG for your money now but after around 2 or 3yrs it'll get you BANGing your head on the wall
the only problem that u might face will be the riding posture of the R15, considerin you are gonna be doin 100+kms/day.
you might wanna consider somethin less sporty if you wanna be comfortable doin the ride everyday. Try lookin at some of the other bikes in the segment, but, if you're stuck on these bikes i would put my money on the R15(though acc. to me it's not a VFM)
                        The purpose of biking -
100cc- to get from point A to point B
                        125cc- to get there fast
150cc- to have some fun while getting there
200+cc- to start from point A and forget when point B passed by

It's not the ride but the rider that matters!

Hey man, have you thought about the HH Karizma?? the reason im asking you is because the engine is really refined, good for comfort, quality, touring as you said you drive quite a bit daily... its sort of a mix with the R15 and the P220. Just my 2 Cents

Power + Comfort.... and also, average can be around 45 or so, same as p220...

Am i wrong anyone? please confirm.

                            +1 to Santoosh's post.

Given that you will be doing 80 kms of highways everyday I would suggest you go in for the R15 as you will be able to make use of its powerband. People assume that the R15 isnt only about shaving seconds off laps at the race track and pushing it through corners and is hence impractical for day to day use. Not true.

The P220 is a very good bike as well and is excellent VFM.

Ultimately it comes down to what you are looking for in a bike. We can only list out the strengths and weaknesses of each.

If you can shell out 110000 than R15 --if you want to shell out 80 k than p220.

                              simple

As of today in this range there is no better bike than the 15
