Re: Hi everybody

If I may, why not a CBR 250. Have heard good opinions and comfortable too. To be honest, I have booked one after test riding countless number of times in countless showrooms.

Re: Hi everybody

Hi jeevan.life , trust me the CBR with ABS was my first choice. But when I took the test ride, I was like severely disappointed; reasons outlined:
First a bit about me:
1. 6'1"
2. 100+kg <110kg though (my weight)
3. old man: (still below 40) but haven't ridden a bike in almost 8 years now
OK now that I have given you a description of the couch potato that I am, here is what happened when I took the ride:
1. Turning the bike (u-turn) in traffic was a nightmare, I can turn my car faster!! (but one can get better with practice I'm sure)
2. Really really heavy bike!! Just couldn't flick it through traffic (main reason I'm buying a bike: Insanely jealous of bikers slipping through traffic)
3. It doesn't fly!!: When I sat on it and ripped the throttle it didn't fly away: Obviously it is a very stable bike and I didn't feel the speed I was at, I was too busy getting disappointed when my expectations were not met. I'd like to point out here that my expectations were too high from a 250 cc bike.
4. Had to wrap my wrists in crepe bandage for the rest of the day because of the pain that a short test ride had caused.

All the factors above mentioned burned my desire to buy a bike because I couldn't buy the cbr 250. Some months later, frustrated with traffic conditions, I started looking out for a bike to save time and money (parking costs at office and extremely extremely low mileage from my super souped up swift).

So I decided that being an old man, I needed a bike that was really light, and had a more straight sitting posture and dealt with potholes really well, all the while giving me a decent mileage.

And then came the Impulse: Great sitting posture, awesome pothole riding capabilities 40+ mileage, good pricing, and 5 yr warranty: VFM big time! But I am put off by the hero service and showroom people, total sarkari office atmosphere. I feel just like as if I walked into the RTO office.

Anyway, I just had a test ride of the KTM duke 200.. Life has changed as I know it, love is in the air and it si spring all over, I could be dancing in mustard fields(DDLJ) for all you know!!!
I smiled all the way back to the showroom, booked it right away. Love story 2013: Picture abhi baaki hai...

But hold on: reel life and real life are a bit different. On road the duke costs double of what the impulse is coming (discount at sai motors). So there is where the dilemma is; what should I do?
so I am stuck between "dil hai ki manta nahi" and the grey matter sitting inside my skull: Le' Brain

Hi lonewolf121

Lol.. that was a great way to pen things down..

Found no mention of Ceeber, so was wondering if you gave it a miss. It all depends on personal tastes. I like linear power and not something that starts flying..

If dil says Do the Duke.. I would say go for it, you will have fun on duke. Personally have not ridden the impulse, so no comments on that front.

Re: Hi everybody

You're absolutely right about personal tastes. I just loved the duke and the attitude of the sales folks at ktm marathahalli (bangalore). These guys went out of the way to arrange a test ride, they were well informed and 2 of them were themselves ktm owners. Explained everything to me and treated me like a king at the showroom.

Given their attitude (which I hope will remain the same even after buying the bike) I'm sold on the bike. Collecting funds now..

Thanks! I'm expecting delivery in a week or two (had booked months ago )

And, Congrats on your Choice! Duke is a mean machine for zipping through busy lanes and zig-zagging past frustrated car drivers! Honestly I'd have been disappointed if you'd brought the Impulse.. I mean it's nice and all, but thoroughly under powered I feel. the engine lacks that power and/or acceleration to set the adrenaline coursing through your body. It feels like a Splendor with greater ride height and bouncy suspension The Bike isn't even fitted with Stock button(high grip) tires.. what's the point in buying a bike just because it's economical and get frustrated everyday?! But again, it's my personal opinion.. No complaints with Duke though, there are lot of great threads about Duke here.. just find a few and read on

Congratulations again! Pool in them monies quickly!

P.S: When are you getting your bike delivered?

Just a thought. Since you are already hooked to Duke why not going for Duke 390?

Man o man I wish I could, but let me tell you what I told Abhi shek from above:

Yes yes, the 390 was definitely at the top of my mind. Why not spend 50k odd more and get the big dream. But let me tell you 5 reasons why I had to dream small (duke 200):
1. Money
2. Money
3. Money
4. Money
5. Money.

My family (read wife) would not have approved since I had already doubled my budget from the 80k for impulse to 1.53 on road for the 200. And then the biking gear (quality lid and jacket and protectors). And I have already borrowed from my friends for it..

So, now I will only read the thread and live the 390 through the experiences of the gents posting on the 390 ownership thread

Hmmm I understand. After-all it is not like, I like this Bike so I would take this. Money is always the big factor and biggest factor sometimes.

You increased your budget from 80 to 1.5.. now increase it a little bit more (kidding) Why I just I just thought of asking because, Duke 390 is indeed damn powerful and fast but more than that, owning it means not thinking about upgrade for next 5-7 years easily (personal though)

Ya true, money does play the biggest factor for most..we also can't forget the ownership cost.. It would be high as compared to our present bikes..

Ride safe and have fun.

gyan_recl350 your points are absolutely bang on the spot and reflect my thinking. But money is the only factor and so I am not even taking a test ride of the 390. As for the upgrade, who knows what new bikes will be available in the next few years. And god willing if I have more money, then I would be able to buy something like the 1290 (though not for daily commuting).

Therefore, I gave my heart a listen on the 200, but it will have to stay within my pocket's limits

p.s: There is always the RD box and weight reduction (from my body) for extra fun!!

Nevertheless, still a good choice Duke 200 though my heart beats for Enfields. Do share your experience with your new possession. BTW how much is the waiting period for Duke 200?

Enfields are no doubt awesome bikes, but not for my impatient demands (instant gratification required).

The waiting period is non-existant, they assured me of adequate stocks in their stockyard and was promised delivery on a tuesday after booking on a friday. However due to shortage of funds in my funds stockyard (bank). They assured me fast delivery whenever I paid up in full. The shopping experience was awesome and half the reason I'm buying it was the approach of the folks in the showroom.
