I'd like to suggest this plan:

First Day:
Chennai to Gundulpet.

Second Day:
Gundupet to Sultan Bathery early morning.
Breakfast at Sultan Bathery and check-in.
Go around Wayanad and come back and halt at Sultan Bathery.

Third Day:
Sultan Bathery to Ooty.
Check-in or go around exploring.
Check-in in the evening.

Fourth Day:
Head back.



I know how difficult it is to organize. So kindly ignore if this is so late in the game. I'd be more than happy to join with any plan you guys make than trying and executing this one myself.

^ Thanks Praveen for pitching in. I'm still in learning curve when it comes to planning tours. I was able to provide only a outline and as expected, I would go with seniors like you have more experience. Masinagudi is missed out or would be covered eventually, is there a reason?

Also, just wanted to add is that, not many would be fly starters as we may have seen during group rides, so I believe timelines are well thought keeping in mind of slow rider like me.

I'm not sure if all are in concurrence with the plan. Few mentioned they wanted a relaxed ride, with proper rest in masinagudi resort (Since its about 550 Kms One Way)

To Me, the plan looks good - But: We need to arrange for accommodation for xx members in Gundulpet , Sulthan bathery & our usual Masinagudi Resort.

If Possible, Day 1 : Try and stretch the ride till Sulthan bathery (Its about 50 Kilometers only from Gundulpet)

My 2 cents...
1. Vellore-K'Giri via NH46 is faster, especially when we're all on fast bikes rather than the conventional SH
2. We can stretch to finish Sultan Bathery end of day 1 & explore Wayand
3. I'm little confused if we're making to Masinagudi or Wayanad ; reason - accomodation. If its Wayanad, I've ZERO apprehensions; but for Masinagudi, I'm not sure if we need to make a booking now or we can do a spot booking.

Reason behind my original plan:

Day 1 - Chennai to Gundulpet
All day ride to base. Start by 4. Will reach by 7 or 8. Too hectic, I know. But look at Day 2.

Day 2 - Gundulpet to Sultan Bathery and Wayanad
The forest we will be passing to go to Sultan Bathery is probably the best part of the ride. Then its up to us to go wherever we want in Wayanad. Being rainy season, most places will look good. See this...
Tri state road trip ? Day 2 | Thrills of Touring

Day 3 - Sultan Bathery to Ooty, then to Mettuppalayam via Karamadai.
There is a direct road that connects Sultan Bathery to Gudalur, from where we can pass through Masinagudi. No stay there. Reach Ooty by 11 or so. Have a snack and descend via Karamadai and settle down at Mettuppalayam.

Day 4 - Head back
Will be 10 or 11 PM when we reach Chennai.

Pain points of this plan:

1. Super hectic rides on Day 1 and 4.
2. Multiple places of stay.

There is an alternate plan I can suggest.

Day 1 - Chennai to Mettuppalayam

Day 2 - Mettuppalayam to Ooty via Karamadai. This is a route less traveled. But roads are good and best experienced early morning. Go around Ooty and settle down there somewhere.

Day 3 - Go around Ooty again and come down the hill and stay at Mettuppalayam. Or come down next day morning.

Day 4 - Head back.

Disadvantages:
Yet again, Chennai to Mettuppalayam is going to be a hectic ride for a group.


Overall, if we all want a relaxed ride, we should target something like:

1. Yelagiri
2. Yercaud
3. Kolli

Any place farther is going to be hectic, no doubt.

Also,

I'm not a big fan of staying in Masinagudi. There is nothing there worthwhile for bikers. The best is staying in a tent. But that's better enjoyed when you go with your work/college pals. After a long day's ride, you'll need better facilities to refresh, etc.

Just my 2 cents. But if all like it and accommodation is being arranged, I'm all in for it.

Day1: Chennai to Mettupalayam
Day2: Mettupalayam to ooty (around 60 kms).Stay in Ooty
Day3: Ooty to mysore (around 130 kms)
Day4: Mysore to chennai

I vote for Praveen's Plan #1 too!

Again, if you guys want to stay in Mettupalayam - Extend 30 Kilometers and Stay in Kotagiri Instead. #Ignore If not Applicable#

I'm heading out to Bangalore tonight. I have some work for Sunday. So I'll try to make it for dinner, but can't really guarantee. In any case, we'll talk over phone.

Macha, Kotagiri isn't on the Karamadai stretch. As per plan, there is no Ooty. It's a ride from Sultan Bathery to Ooty via Masinaguri, then over to Avalanche and then down to Manjoor and Karamadai.


This makes me think of a slight modification.

On Day 2, lets do Gundulpet - Sultan Bathery - Around Wayanad - Masinagudi and stay for the night.

On Day 3, we can do Masinagudi - Ooty - Around Avalanche - Manjoor - Karamadai - Mettuppalayam.


If we're doing this, all 4 days are riding days, beware!

@ Xinfii, Ananth and other SSG's (Saddle-Sore Gurus) - do you have any suggestion how I can haul my sore butt around for 4 days, to ride with you guys? Being permanently unemployed, I don't mind adding a day before and after your ride plan so that I can rest my sorry ass and keep up with you for the 4 days!

This is important, since I have to convince another old fart (Ravi) to join me for company!!

I'm looking forward for it...but...beware...there're few poor souls who're riding lesser CC rides & may not be able to keep up with the biggies

BTW, how many Kms are we talking here in 4 days? And a split up on each day will help & to my knowledge KL doesn't have good roads like TN, especially when we're talking about KL-KA border.

Hi people. Hundreds of sorry from my side for a very late reply. I am going to apply for leave by today or worst case by monday.

even though I am not a part of this ride, just thought I can pop in my suggestion.

Day 1 head to Gundulper via Mysore(about 600 kms)
Day 2 - Gundulpet - Gopalswamy Betta(beautiful at this time of the year) (should be careful as it is a hot spot for wild elephants
from Gopalswamy betta head to ooty
Day 3 - Ooty - Avalanche - Metupalayam(Start late from ooty and spend some time exploring the queen of hills)
Day 4 - Metupalayam - Chennai

My plan is similar to Praveen but skipping Wayanad. Reason covering good distances as a big group will be tough and you will be left with doing nothing but riding like a truck driver. explore the places and enjoy a relatively relaxed ride.(Day 2 /3 will not involve a riding enabling your butts to be prepared for the big ride back on day 4)
