Guys, what is the best way to come to delhi from Mussourie? I am not concerned about the length, but the route should be relatively void of traffic. Thanks in advance!

Guys I am planning a ride to Lansdowne alongwith a colleague.Is anybody else planning the same over here?Please let me know so that we can tag along.......
Also please provide your suggestions regarding the best route.

As RX said, leave as early as possible. Make it 4AM if you can and you can be in Lansdowne in pretty good time.

Just to show the difference in timing i got two weeks back

Gurgaon - 4aM start - Through an empty meerut city - Bijnor - najibabad route- Lansdowne at 8:22 AM (Constant ride)

Lansdowne - Retrace route Start at 11 AM -bypass meerut city through meerut camp and onto the meerut bypass--- Gurgaon - 3:58 PM (One ten minute bio+fuel break)

These times were non-stop so you can add your breaks in it.

Ghaziabad, Meerut Bypass (note, not through Meerut city), from Khatauli, take a right towards Miranpur, Bijnor, Najibabda just keep going straight towards Lansdowne.

It's a sincere suggestion that you better start from Delhi at 5:00 AM not later or else you will get to experience bad UP traffic.

A nice and picturesque route you can do would be
Mussoorie -(lovely single lane road- 2.5 hours approx) - Chakrata - Ambala/Yamunanagar route - Delhi

Other routes will take you through the muradnagar/modinagar mess (unless you take the canal road at Khatauli while coming from roorkee - if you do take it -- move off the highway near khatauli to the old road. Cross the canal and take a right -- Note: Its not as smooth as it used to be)

Kurt sahab!! Let me share you my experience. I had been to Mussourie last year (you can find that in my signature). Till the time you are in UK, you won't find it difficult but the moment you enter UP, it feels hell chaotic. I had a horrible time getting back. Now, the problem is that while you can start from your home at 4:00 AM in the morning but while you are at your vacation stay, you can't start so early. So no matter what you do, you will encounter UP traffic & chaos.

Canal road is the one which runs parallel to the canal & it's quite long, right? That's a ok type route but not to be taken in low light.

Yup. Thats right. Not at all advisable for darkness. Till the new 4 laner came up, it used to save almost half an hour over the murad/modi nagar stretch. Even the roads were good. Floods in 2010 created havoc and now its not a smooth drive anymore.

That toh is... as Mik pointed, it's a scenic route & then you hit the Delhi-Chandigarh highway which is 1000000000 times better than that crap UP highway.
Your call but if you are taking the shorter route, you can't avoid the chaos. Start in early from Mussourie.

What I can do is, I can take the Meerut-Muzzafar Nagar route while going. I will leave by 4am in the morning. Then I can take your route while returning!

Forgot to mention but yes the route suggested is only while returning. You can start early while leaving from your home coz that's possible but while returning, it's not possible to start that early from the hotel.
