Rohit RK : Delhi - Murthal - Delhi on R15
NOTE : The trip was done in December 2015.
The familiar sound of a cock woke me up - the morning alarm. I grabbed my oneplus one (the smartphone) from the adjacent computer table without even opening my eyes and killed the cock. In 15 minutes I was sipping hot tea which I had prepared in half asleep state (talented me!). I dragged the curtains apart and sunlight filled my little bedroom of my rented flat at Gautam Nagar in New Delhi. It was a beautiful Saturday.
Fast forward to 11 o clock (still morning) - loud footsteps (due to the heavy woodland shoes I was wearing) woke up bui - my elder brother; he sleeps till late as he works till well beyond midnight - courtesy of his handsome salary figure in a private company. I quickly informed him that I was going out for lunch and would return by evening. He went to sleep again.
12:30 PM - I was waiting for Ravi - an old (and gold too) friend of mine; he's a sweetheart - cute, fluffy and decent
; on a pavement near the wide main road at gate no. 1 - M. G. Road metro station in Gurgaon. Sunshine gave some respite from the cold weather. To kill time, I started observing people around me (no I wasn't staring at anyone). Confident looking makeup loaded beauties were crossing me(I was minding them but they, their own business) and proceeding towards the metro entrance hurriedly. One lucky girl almost brushed me (blush). Of course there were men but... who cares? Speaking of men, I now remember a middle-aged guy, probably in his late fifties, who came from nowhere and stood in front of me, lit a cigarette and started smoking. He was shivering and smoking in a very unusual way. He pouted and touched the cigarette butt to his lips. It seemed he was going to smooch, but he just kissed the butt. His feet were firmly sticking to the ground but he himself was not firm at all - besides vibrating (read shivering), he was also moving vertically, bending his knees a little and suddenly straightening them up. I noticed that he was smoking from his lips (not even mouth) instead of lungs. That (besides beauties) kept things interesting for me (did I mention that I hate waiting?).
He came (my bestie - Ravi Mohan Gupta) , we shook hands, he asked if I wanted to ride (his R15, we had decided to use only one bike for this sort ride) and I politely requested him to ask me the same question once we were out of city limits (wicked me
) . I mounted on R15's pillion seat without any difficulty and ZOOM...
Half hour later... We had sneakers, juice and exchanged seats on the bike. Vroom.... I momentary glanced at the blue colored gate-like sign board, indicating we were officially out of Delhi, in the rear-view mirror and looked at the smooth, wide and straight tarmac in front of me. My heart skipped a beat - goosebumps; talk about adrenaline rush! I immediately gunned down the throttle - 9K RPM - up shift - 9K RPM - up shift - repeat - repeat - repeat. I was slashing traffic like a samurai, at triple digit speeds (the yamaha being my sword) . At such speeds you and the machine become one. I felt as if bike's tyres were my own legs - such great was the feedback from it (R15 has a near perfect balance between comfort and handling- awesome machine!).
I was waiting for the traffic lights to go green - the only traffic light which interrupted my blistering ride. In front of me were two cars and a line of bikes, at frontmost position, which started from foot of the traffic signal and spread across the road covering the entire front column! It was then that I spotted anothe shiney Black colored R15 (our's was a combination of white & blue) whose rider was a young fella probably in his late twenties wrapped up in complete riding gear (except riding boots maybe). I kept staring at that beautiful view for a while. Every vehicle hurriedly started moving as soon as the lights turned green. I too let go of my clutch lever and the kid from yamaha accelerated quickly. I swiftly changed my lane and soon was at the front of all the vehicles who were giving me company seconds ago at the signal. It was then that I noticed, the Black cousin of my ride was equally enthusiastic when it came to burning the tarmac. I got exited! As there was literally no traffic in front of us and the road was wide and smooth enough, I twisted my right wrist till the end. The other yammie was roaring at the top of its voice too! Game on!!
We were neck to neck for about a kilometer. A quick glance down - Speedo was showing 129. Suddenly Ravi lightly tapped my shoulder indicating me to slow down. I realised that we were already at Murthal and Sukhdev da dhaba was few hundred meters away. I slowed down and showed the letter 'V' with my fingers to the adjacent guy riding the screaming black R15 as he passes me - a symbol of brotherhood and respect to my companion of few minutes.
I parked the ride and we proceeded towards the entrance of the dhaba. It was crouded enough for my dis-liking. Anyhoo, we started with the famous paranthas. Then we went for aloo tikki, dosa, sweets, nimbu pani and few more dishes which which I dont remember vividly; soya-chaap maybe. We were full! The smooth roads alone were well worth visiting the place, tastey food with lot of variety were a bonus! I noticed that absence of non vegetarian food did not disappoint me this time - a rare thing with me.
Return trip was uneventful and Ravi did all the riding as I wanted him to have some riding pleasure now. We arrived at his place in Gurgaon at the evening around 7 after fighting our way through the excruciating Delhi-traffic. Aunty (Ravi's mom) served us tea as we sat in the balcony enjoying cool breeze and making plans for the January's looong riding trip to Jaipur.
Do share your views about my writing style and I look forward to criticisms. I am also looking forward to get a chance to ride with you guys! Do feel free to get in touch.

Re: The Official Delhi Offline Meet(G2G) Thread
Planning to go for short trips around Delhi. However, I don't see any gatherings or anything of the sort for Delhi within the forums. Do we have any groups for weekend riders, etc?Bajaj Avenger Street 220 - (Delhi)

Honestly the thread is dead. Reach xbhp dhabha on Sunday morning, you will find bikers there.Originally posted by Mayankisme View PostI have recently shifted to Gurgaon. Any sunday morning ride on cards?

Why not restart it?
This weekend, Christmas dominates and next weekend is New Years. Once we recover from our hangovers / alcohol poisoning, why don't we meet up for a brisk winter morning ride?
My buddies and I usually do a casual run on GFR (Gurgaon-Faridabad Road) and then to either Bikers Cafe or McDonald's Manesar. Thoughts?

Re: The Official Delhi Offline Meet(G2G) Thread
I've tried but the thing is people are riding but within their small groups (formed after meeting through xBhp) or with their regular biker mates or something similar.Originally posted by marcussantiago View PostWhy not restart it?

When I was in Mumbai and use to post for a ride in Mumbai offline thread. 20-30 people use to join sometimes or at least 6-7 to be the minimum. But I've tried few times here and it never happened.
Saying this, now even I ride with my xbhp - TeamBhp fellas after discussing it over whatsapp group or with girlfriend. Because posting here for morning ride never got me a single company. :PFirst I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

Re: The Official Delhi Offline Meet(G2G) Thread
Hi guys, need some help regarding motorcycle rentals in Delhi. ikerZ sounds good and they have the motorcycles we need 2 himalayan and an avenger, but the issue is we will be arriving on 24th 11:30PM and they open only by 11AM the next day. Are there any places where we can rent somewhere late in the night or early morning?
If nothing worksout with them, can we hire the bikes for one extra day and ask them to deliver at some place?
appreciate your help.
Btw, we are riding to Dharmshala.A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.
Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

Hi folks,
Is any of you riding from Mumbai to Delhi somewhere in the first half of February? I'm planning a tour to Nainital aboard my humble Gixxer SF and would like to have a biker bud along for the 2-day ride from Mumbai to Delhi. Dates are flexible, please let me know!

Could anyone here guide me about which route I should use for Thane-Delhi and where in between I can stop-over for a night? Budget hotel suggestions are welcome!Originally posted by joelgreen View PostHi folks,

This is the route suggested by Google Maps, but I'm unsure if there are stretches where bikes are not allowed. Can someone please confirm?

Oyo rooms have plethora of options to stay. I would suggest stay near Karol Bagh, as being bike market, if you have any issues, you can get it checked then and there.Originally posted by joelgreen View PostCould anyone here guide me about which route I should use for Thane-Delhi and where in between I can stop-over for a night? Re: The Official Delhi Offline Meet(G2G) Thread
The stretch between Baroda and Ahmedabad is an expressway now, motorcycles are not allowed on it. Bikes have to take the old highway. On the rest, you are free to ride.Originally posted by joelgreen View PostCould anyone here guide me about which route I should use for Thane-Delhi and where in between I can stop-over for a night? Route should be Thane - Udaipur. Udaipur to Delhi. Assuming you are habituated to riding long distance. Hotels enroute are plenty. Hotels in bigger cities are generally more expensive.
Google maps is showing the route via Godhra. Don't know about that. I would suggest the tried and tested GQ stretch. Check this link - https://goo.gl/maps/frZ6FoFaTKx
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
Also, depending when you are planning to do this ride, you will get fog. Currently, once you are around Ahmedabad, fog will play a major factor. Also since days are shorter you cannot start too early in the morning. And do not ride post dusk. Wherever you are, start searching for a place to stay around 4, so that within the next hour or so, you will be able to find a place to crash.
All the best and ride safe!Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city
