I want to add one thing here. We should also buy Alum (Phitkiri in Hinda) & some chlorine to purify water. There is a scarcity of drinking water, if I am not mistaken.

yes you are correct, small packets can be made of one piece of Alum and a small bottle of chlorine (i think it is available by the brand name of Medichlor)

apart from this, we may have to rethink on other items also, because by the time our help will reach there, most of rescue operation would have been over and situation may be very different. you can discuss this with Tilak bhai.

we would need the materials as per mentioned by Tilak Jee, as the Pilgrims are being taken care by the government but the Locals are suffering severely. SO here is the list.
AS PER TILAK JEE
Dear friends,

As we are all aware of the tragedy that has struck Uttrakhand , WED in its own small capacity intends to reach out to those affected by the destruction.
We have a few collection centers in and and around NCR/ Uttarkashi as for now where in any member can donate essential items ( please note we are not accepting any money) . These items will then be moved forward to Uttrakhand, where in WED would arrange for further distribution.

Probable items that we are collecting is :
1. Biscuits/ ration
2. Torch/ batteries/ candles/matchboxes
3 Tarpaulin (to make shed)
4. Ground sheet/ Blankets
5. Basic medicines- Crocin/combiflam/ etc ( please be careful with expiry dates)
6. Old clothes.

This way the money collected from all would come handy in purchasing any of these items which are less in number, I think that would be clear on Sunday after we get everyone to sit in one place. After that we all can decide what needs to be purchased.

Also one request from people who are living with family, kindly get Carton Boxes and Scotch Tapes and even Big Poly Bags to pack all the stuff. Just my 2 Cent I would consider not wasting the money in donation to buy packing materials for all the Relief Materials.

Again you all make me feel soo proud. When most of the people are just watching news from the comfort of their homes, xBhp on whole is atleast doing it's bit.
Now count me in for any kind of assistance required.
be it purchasing the stuff, or giving helping hand in whatsoever is required.

thank you so much Xbhp and my dear friends for your whole heartily support.
yesterday i went to Gangotri, harshl, Dharali & Mukhba to appraise the situation.. as of now all the the yatris have been airlifted only the locals are left behind reeling under the aftermath of the calamity... you can see the destruction here http://www.facebook.com/tilak2909/me...1924872&type=3

there are numerous villages between uttarkashi to gangotri which are severally affected and where no relief have been sent by administration as all the focus was to evacuate the yatris.. we have over few days sent relief to some viallges around uttarkashi by way of porters.. see some pics here http://www.facebook.com/tilak2909/me...1924872&type=3
we have also identifies few villages where we intend to send our help and support as we know the administration will neglect them.. today also we are leaving fot a village called Sainj for which we will have to walk around 10 kms with relief materials as road links are broken at many places..

Tilak: Whole heartedly appreciate your effort here. A true biker. We will pitch in whatever way we can. Do share the message that the help is coming from a family called XBHP consisting of members from all state so that they know that we are there to support.

Anyway, do you also need volunteers to drop the materials from Delhi to base camp in UK (apart from members of WED)? If you can, respond to [email protected]

the relief material we are sending will be primarily for the locals as you yourself pointed out that by that time all the tourists would've already been rescued and sent to their homes.

It is the locals who need most of the help now since they are the ones who suffered the most and are being neglected by media/administration. A lot of people there have lost everything. Hope we will be able to help them restart their life once again.
