guys as far as i know, its not allowed to run any vehicle without a valid registration number.. the limit is set to some 20 kms without the reg. no..Originally posted by siddharth_ZMR View PostYou should have forced for more explanation... its unusual and suspicious explanation...
may be the showroom guy removed the cable for the same reason so that the bike running does not get counted..
they generally fix the cable once the bike gets registered..

i got my bike in 2 days... 2 days coz i had done cheque payment.. but they didnt remove speedo cable but told me not to go above 80 kms as after that i will be fined for riding a non-registered vehicle...Originally posted by Viper1089 View PostAlso thing is that they didn't install the speedo cable.. The showroom guy said that they face a problem during servicing as the kms are over and above the limit stipulated for the free servicing and he will fix it when I get my bike registered on Monday.
but removing speedo cable is not at all correct.. moreover in case of new vehicle registration by dealer directly, they dont take the vehicle to RTO as they get seperate approvals and RTO agents sit in Dealers office...
The reason of free servicing is not correct .....
I will suggest you talk to some seniors of the forum for more details and go and meet the guys at the dealership...WARNING!! Objects seen in Mirror are Disappearing Rapidly!!!!!!

A very sensible and pragmatic choice, if I may say so. My wife too had liked the P220 but the choice became irrelevant 'cause I had already got the CBR. On a P 220, you would be able to tour just about anywhere as a couple, even Ladakh and the North East. For the same reason, I am now waiting for the N 650, V Strom, G650GS - any of these which come out in time.Originally posted by Viper1089 View PostEveryone,
Thank you for letting me try out your bikes yesterday and for helping me make a decision. As suggested I got my wife to sit on the pillion seat of all the bikes...
She had a big NO for the Ninja 250 seat
As expected.. Vishwas sir had already said that..
CBR250..she was OK with it.. until she tried the Pulsar 220F and just plainly said yes... Test rode it and found it pretty good. It was smoooth.. seemed to have great torque in all gears.. more than enough power for its weight..
Quite a different choice from what I was considering I know... but..
I had no choice but to go for the Pulsar 220. So booked one today and got the delivery within 45 mins with teflon coating done..
So here are a couple of my bike's pics...
Thanks to all at G2G yesterday!
Congrats and happy ridingLast edited by icemang; 02-17-2012, 12:16 PM.

Bakwas kar raha hai saala. What these guys do is this: the bike comes from the factory minus the installed cable, the cable comes separately as a fitment item. The dealer gives out the bike on test rides. If the cable is installed, the odo will naturally record the running and thereby, the 1st service limit would be voided. When the bike is sold, the dealer gives some crappy story to the gullible customer, fits the cable and says tata.Originally posted by Viper1089 View PostAlso thing is that they didn't install the speedo cable.. The showroom guy said that they face a problem during servicing as the kms are over and above the limit stipulated for the free servicing and he will fix it when I get my bike registered on Monday. I don't really understand the relation between all that he said. Will go and insist on getting it installed tomorrow. During run in what is the ideal rpm I should maintain or limit to?
This was what had happened when I had bought my Pulsar 150 Classic in Jan 2002. I noticed the trick immediately, caught the dealer's balls and made him fit the cable. Unfortunately, there was no way of telling as to how much the bike was run before the sale - during those days, the odos were analog and running the cable backwards used to run the meter backwards and the odo could easily be brought back to near zero.
You will notice that such a trick does not work where the speedo and odo take input not from either wheels (most bikes front, Bullets rear) but from the crankshaft like on a CBR.
AFAIK, the new P 220 has a digital speedo and odo which takes power from the battery. So, w/o the cable, the odo and speedo will not record running. Bad arse dealers...

Vishwas, like me, is afraid of being seen with a nubile 20 something lass on the pillion by his wife/father-in-law/mother-in-law so the best thing to do is get a bike whose pillion is not comfy for a lady. This is what i mentioned couple of posts back but i guess the post went invisible due to other postings, didnt even get qouted.
Here it is again.
Viper i would also like you to check the engine oil in such scenario...If thats a test bike vehicle trust me the oil will be black and not transparent, a single ride from store to home cannot make it black completely also its a new engine so residue from old oils to make it further sluggish is next to impossible...Originally posted by Eshan-P180 View PostCongrats on your buy buddy..
On the highlighted part... Did they sell you the test ride vehicle..Just asking cz one of my friend was one of the victim of such 45 mins ka deal... Also the reason given was same as yours... just check that out..
And come for rides after the break in period is over...
Goodluck...
Please consider this important before you get the number of your vehicle, once registered you wont be able to do much about it..

@ icemang, shashrash; eshan thank you! It did look like the right choice that time so went for it.. Though a bigger bike is on cards for the future...First I have to see how much my wife actually tours with me... Otherwise it will just be another mistake which I can't afford to make...
RE was a great bike but incidentally not for me...
@all others I went to the dealer and insisted on getting the speedo cable fixed and got it immediately.. When I took the bike's delivery it showed 4kms running on the odo. I think what all you say is true... They must be giving it out on test rides.. But I am hoping mine wasn't. Before booking I took a test ride and it was a different bike than the one that was delivered to me. It was the same colour but had a lot more kms on the odo and I kept a close watch where they parked their test bike.. Also he invited me to come and check the bike before they took it for pre delivery inspection which I did.Last edited by Viper1089; 02-17-2012, 01:58 PM.Very True- "Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. Yup!Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostNow you know the reason why I bought Ninja 250
completely understood. If I try that I'll surely be thrown out..and my parents would side with my wife in that matter for sure.. My marriage is relatively new and in a phase where anything more adventurous than having a dinner out with friends...the wifey insists on coming along..
Not to mention that the RE custom seats I had fitted have spoiled her as a pillion. Now no pillion seat is good enough for her and she frowns every now and then on my decision to sell the classic.Last edited by Viper1089; 02-17-2012, 02:24 PM.Very True- "Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous.
