Anyone coming for this ride, even I am tentative as firstly I don't wanna go alone from Pune & secondly I may visit by hometown with my cousin.

Not a good idea to visit Konkan in Holi period as almost everybody (local public) take leaves and people dont find domestic help for catering tourists. Has faced this twice in Diveagar and Dapoli.

If you are coming to Pune for a long term assignment then you will need to do the new registration to avoid unnecessary hassles especially when you go on rides with the Pune riders or alone. Also sometimes you might face problem with the locals within & around Pune apart from Police especially Autos.

i think you can pay the one year road tax and ride with the same number, but u would be on the cops radar all the time.
another option is to get a few fuel reciepts from rajasthan without dates written on them, anytime the cops catch you all you gotta do is put a recent date and say dat u got to pune just a few days back. There is i think a 6 month period in which you do not need to pay road tax.

Hey bro, good to hear that you are landing in pune , Well i had the same case of yours where i had my goa registered splendor which initially i paid road tax of something like 3500/- Rs, and was able to use the bike for 2 years without changing the number and whenever cops used to stop me i used to show them the xerox of the receipt and which they accept as the rto stamp was there, once i saw 2 years completion was coming in i went and paid 500/- rs and got the bike registered with pune number.

and in hyderabad there is a provision of not getting your number changed if you have the life time road tax receipt paid... is there any kind of such provision in pune?

@ icemang - i think the classic pulsar 2002 tool kit is not the same which is sold with current gen of pulsars, as to my knowledge it had different bolt changes and making uniformity part among all bajaj bolts came up later, In fact i think a first gen CBZ tool kit has 70% matching spanners, so you can even try that.

In case of any accident or incident they will try to pound on you seeing different state number. True with local ppl as well. This is usual across other states as well. In fact many times Mumbai registered number plate face issues in Pune & other way around. If you are coming for long term (more than a year) then be prepared to register the bike under Maharashtra RTO. Though cops are lethargic in Pune but if you travel to Mumbai then it is exactly other way around. They will stop you without any reason & will check everything, registration papers, insurance, PUC, license try to get something out of it. For short term you might not travel much but long term give consideration to these pointers. This is my personal opinion. You can ask others as well.
Just go through the threads I mentioned you will get all the info.

well actually the thing is i am currently coming till july-aug and i am hoping that it will get converted to permanent.... but in case it doesnt i might have to go back to hyderabad.... so thats why i was asking.... if it would have been permanenetly from the beginnning itself i would have definitely gotten a maharashtra number....

Temporary Number

Anyone having any idea about how many kms i can drive my bike on a temporary number without being hassled by the Pune cops?

Officially... you can do 60 Kms.

But I managed to clock 100 Kms. The rule basically states that the bike can go from Distribution warehouse to Showroom to the RTO.

Just keep all your documents and a lil smooth talking should see you through, just make sure you do not leave city limits.

Dude i rode 1500 kms within Maharashtra using temporary number on my bike as the number and all took 1 month.

Registration Certificate these days comes via India Post's most *reliable* service. It could take anywhere between 2-5 weeks for the smart card to arrive. But we do get the no. from showroom before that.

I have got clearance from RTO. Its just that the series is changing and they will allot the VVIP & VIP numbers first. So my number will come by Monday or Tuesday.
So i get to ride only 40 kms for 4 days !

Also, does anyone know the source of this 60 kms info? It would be handy in case the cops stop me (which i am certain of with my historical data)

After crossing 40kms, just beware to stay away from cops. Duck behind cars and buses. Still, when I got my RTR I managed to ride it for around 100kms before I got the first warning from a quite-friendly traffic constable (friendly coz he dint challan or seize the bike).
