Has anyone amongst us been to Solapur recently or is able to give inputs on the condition of the road from Pune to Solapur?

The reason for this question? There is a fair chance that I might get posted to Latur sometime next year. I have some other choices too but if I can do the Pune - Solapur - Latur route in say 6 hours on my CBR 250, I might choose Latur over other stations.

One of my friend just got back from solapur. We had a little chat about the roads and he quoted " One of the worst highway in india" . It is single lane road with bus , truck , moped , bullock carts coming in from all directions. Will take a detailed feedback from him next time i speak to him.

P.S Latur has a cantonment?? i didnt know that.

Just to give you all a synopsis of what happened. A guy named praveen yadav wrote a message to KTM Duke FB page that , he has beat some 7 dukes on highways and streets and duke is loser. Now I would not have cared for this post at all , but there were a few posts where in he started to talk about engine specs and other details which was a total bull shit . Fine , but he also claimed that he is a socially responsible person who races on streets and provokes people to race. There were many replies to him to make him understand that he was wrong. But still he didn't give any $hit and continued arguing.

It was totally fun antz was in tears while reading , so was me . Total laughter for around 1 - 2 hours !

Duke - 200 cc street
R15 - 150 cc race

Offspring - 175.50 cc street racer ! Viola ! I wish I had taken snapshots of that thread. Such things do not happen so often and are epic to be displayed.

HAHAHAHA .... I read that post .. thought would have got unnnoticed unless ninz would not have commented on it and that came as a notification .. didnt follow that later but whatever I read .. that R15 guy seemed like a complete Ja*kAs* .. looked like I missed the fun later on.

Thanks, GT. I had had the same experience in 2010 when I had gone to Hyd. Possibly, one of THE worst roads I have had the misfortune to drive on.

No, Latur does not have a cantt but only an NCC unit. If the ride time from Latur to Pune is less than 6 hours, I might take a call on getting a posting there. But with the current scenario, it seems impossible.

Alright, so that was what it was. I did think that it would be related to bikes in some way. Thanks for the elucidation, KP It must have been filled with profanities to be yanked by an admin else Yadavji must have gone to ride the Mr/Ms Duke 15

I went to Hyderabad a couple of months back. The Pune-Solapur stretch took about 4.5 hours. The 4 laning work was underway and so we had to take continuous deviations. Also, due to the work, utter confusion prevailed, and there was traffic travelling in both directions in both lanes of the road! We ran into the contract engineer in charge of the road work in a restaurant in Solapur, and he said the work should be done in 6 months time. So, after that i guess things should be ok for most part. There will still be some parts that are only single-lane.
Also, I have no idea about the Solapur-Latur stretch, but i guess that 130 km should easily take 2.5 hours at least. So total Latur-Solapur-Pune time could be 2.5+4.5 = 7 hours.

You can also go to Century TVS service center at Pune Satara road near Swarget. I use to do my RTR 160 service. Its located at Parvati Industrial area. Talk to Mr. Ram there. The guys are efficient & you can personally stay & see the service.
