The people there are nice - Rohan himself, Prashant Kale etc. One major hiccup (guys who have an input on this please do give it) was that the mirrors were missing. On my asking, I was told that the dealer had received all LEFT HAND SIDE mirrors from Honda Gurgaon. I am not aware of Honda's professionalism in this area as this is my first Honda purchase but it did seem an odd answer

I have done about 100 kms on the new wheels till today and will write a detailed report later. Immediate, instantaneous impressions:

            1. Only side stand available, centre stand is not an option/accessory. The side stand itself appears to be rather flimsy.

            2. Extremely light clutch.

            3. The key operated steering lock operates ONLY when the handle is turned to the left and not to the right, perhaps a function of Serial 1 above.

            4. No auto indicator cancelling, standard press to cancel.

            5. No backlit switches

            6. All switches seem to be made of light weight (read low quality) plastic, especially the horn button. Life over long term usage is suspect.

            7. Pliant suspension.

            8. Excellent headlight - spread, range and visibility is spot on.

            9. Jerky, snatchy EFI setup. Should smooth out over time.

            Detailed report later...
Congrats on the baby CEEBER, well here for me, the wait continues and continues and continues and continues........................................... Hope to ride together soon................................

@ice, congrats for the purchase. As vishwas said, maybe the issues will be sorted out during your first service.

Do post a detailed report of your ride with nice pictures for us to feast on. Btw, what color did you buy?
Thanks, Ali. Honda's first impressions, for me, are likely to turn out to be lasting impressions

                  1. In most full faired bikes, centre stand is not offered (even as an accessory) since it reduces ground clearance of the bike (specially while cornering). As most full faired bikes are mainly oriented towards sports riding, good ground clearance for cornering is considered as a basic requirement.

                  2. Chances of the dealer getting all left side mirrors are quite high. This is the first consignment and some goof ups are bound to happen. Just get a written confirmation from him that you would get those mirrors later on. As an added safety precaution, you can collect 2 left side mirrors and then can replace one for right side mirror whenever it becomes available.

                  3. Honda engines are normally bulletproof so EFI should smooth out in few km. If not, escalate this issue with senior managers. Being the first lot, your issues would be resolved shortly.
                  1. Thanks for the wishes, Vishwas. I will still do Leh on my trusty Pulsar so have asked my wife and son to take care of the old lady for the next year or so whilst I am in Rajkot. But my Leh plan is likely to shift to 2012, lots on my plate now...

                  2. Vishwas, I know about centre stands and ground clearance being contraindicated. It is not the stand itself but how it is mounted on the chassis that counts, as you would know. Yet, that's why, I said that the centre stand was not even an option forget an accessory... What I am more worried about is the structural strength of the side stand.

                  3. Chances of dealers for an established MNC like Honda getting all left hand mirrors are not only not high, they are virtually zero. Check out the story with the Pulsar series - no glitches there. Goof ups? From Honda? For a bike on which will rest their mid-segment fortunes for the next, say, 5 years, in the face of Bajaj, Garware (yes the Hyosung 400 is to come here), Kawasaki, Suzuki? On a bike which has had a near simultaneous global launch? I don't think so. These, as you pithily put, "goof-ups" do not occur in mature markets simply because Honda has just too much to lose there to the other 3 Jap makers as also to home grown brands. Here, they could care a f**k as their nearest competitor (your bike maker ) is pricier by about 2 lacs for the same swept volume. BTW, mirrors are fitment items, not pre-ordered accessories where a CRM glitch could, despite SAP, come into play. The status of mirrors on a bike is exactly the same as that of a chain. Do you expect to collect a bike WITHOUT a chain... I suspect a different angle to this and have asked a friend to investigate. Will update.

                  4. Agreed insofar as the breaking in of the engine is concerned. I have, over the years, read various reports of snatchy EFIs not only in bikes but also in cars (the Maruti Gypsy King is a classic example). At the risk of sounding pedantic, the challenge in digital mechatronics lies in melding the efficiency and exactness of digital design with the infinitely variable options of analog operation to provide the best of both worlds. It is a really difficult task - more on this if you are interested when we meet at the next G2G.

As an aside, please don't ride on the NDA road. I had gone there yesterday to visit my old squadron and meet some old instructors and man, was it a nightmare. The speed breakers are okay, it is just that the approach to all of them is very poorly marked. Any friends here want to see the NDA, do contact me. I can arrange a visit. NOT NOW but when I am on leave to Pune next in say Sep.

Couldn't one which costed a lot less and made hell lot more torque be sourced from elsewhere?

What tyres and brakes are you planning on using?
Are these tyres / brakes readily available in India?
If yes/no How much will they cost him?

I asked him almost all these questions that evening. I got answers to most. You need to try harder Anant.
