Rainy season rides !!
@ all -
kindly share your experience about rainy season.
we all know rainy season are most enjoybale to ride, but at the same time its the most risky one too.
A word of bad experience, advice about (preventive) maintenance of bike for this season would be really of great help for all of us and fellow riders on road to be safe.
Wish you all a fabolous and safe monsoon rides

As for tips on Rain Riding and many other types of riding challenges.. please refer to: The Art of Safe RidingAdvice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The grand prize of winner is ST7 and Biru is not a winner; yetOriginally posted by Eshan-P180 View PostAs per the website it only says one pair of jeans...
Shudnt the trip be on ST 7, i guess they did mentioned that in the competition (Correct me if iam wrong)..
If he is on his bike then what about staying, eating and fuel charges??? are they borne by Hyosung & Wrangler???? or he is on his own?
This seems pretty confusing and weird!!!
.
He will be paid a certain amount which would take care of his fuel, loding & boarding expenses. He is on his own but the expenses will be paid by someone else.
You can vote for Biru here - Search for the True Wanderers - Preview WinnerOriginally posted by abnv View Post@ vishwas aka ninja chaha
- how can we vote for him (biru) ??
If you hate biru or whatever he does or does not do, you can also look at others - Search for the True Wanderers - Home
You should also vote for Animeher. He is also from Pune - Search for the True Wanderers - Preview Winner

As for advice...
EDIT: The first point is wrong as pointed out later in the thread. Please ignore it.
1) If you don't like riding slow then you could reduce your tyre air pressure a bit. It'll give you the extra surface area you need while braking.
2) Use the front brake very gradually since its much more likely to lock the wheel.
3) Be weary of potholes and don't ride fast unless you know the road (like vishwas sir said)
4) Be extra careful while turning on blind corners because if some vehicle's stuck and you see it at the last moment, emergency braking or swerving can be pretty tricky.
5) Ride slow.
6) I guess you already know this but the road is at its slipperiest when it *just* starts raining as the water mixes with the oil and debris on the road. Takes a few minutes of rain to wash all this sludge away and then its much safer.
That's all i can think off..Get ready for the ride! 24 Hours on a Bike...

Go through this link and you will get all your info.. Some of the concepts you know now are a bit flawed
.. Read and learn
Riding in the Rains: The Art of Safe Riding
Allow me to quote a few lines:
1. Hydroplaning is the result of your tires moving fast across a wet surface - so fast that they do not have sufficient time to channel that moisture away from the center of the tire. The result is that the tire is lifted by the water away from the road and all traction is thus lost. Skimming stones across a pond or water skiing are great examples. The tyres on the bike work like skis and the rider has no control over direction. Tread design, tread depth, weight of motorcycle, tire pressure and depth of water all play a part in determining at what speed the tire will begin to hydroplane.
In the event of hydroplaning, do not apply your brakes or try to steer the bike in any direction but the straight-ahead. If you know that you are going to be riding in the rain, add some 3-5 psi of pressure in your tires. Increasing the tire pressure makes its contact patch smaller. In other words, it increases the weight per square inch of the contact patch so that it takes more 'uplift' by water to cause hydroplaning. And just as increasing pressure makes the contact patch smaller, it also tends to spread out the tread grooves which, in turn, makes it easier to squeeze out water away from the contact patch.
2.Brake gently, using more of the rear brake than the front (just the opposite of what you would do in the dry). Keep checking your brakes for effectivity when riding in heavy rain or through deep water.
Rest everything is pretty much alright... but this does not mean that riding while its raining is not fun
Neither does it mean that you have to ride extremely slow in the wet
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Just went through the link posted by antz.Originally posted by phoenixflight View PostThe above is really not good advice...
So sorry about that piece of advice which obviously lacked experience. I guess i should consider myself lucky since i'd actually reduced the tyre pressure a couple of psi when the rains started a few days back..
Well you learn something new everyday! And the best part is i skipped the 'riding in rains' part while going through the art of safe riding thread when i joined the forum

Thanks
Thanks a lot,Originally posted by Devilpulsarian View PostBhopal to Indore - NH86, has been almost completely laid... fantastic road...
NH3 is in its pristine shape as well...
While going ie Pune to Bhopal I barely found vehicles on it..I was doing 120-140 kmph quite effortlessly
However, it was very different while coming from Bhopal to Pune. Found a couple of traffic jams along with heavenly TATA machinery laundering with demonic faces almost all the way..
This time I followed the NH50 or COE50 (Comedy of errors 50) both the times...BAD Road it is...narrow 2-laned and full of traffic....
I would suggest you not to take this road...
During my last trip (a year back) I followed SH10 ie leaving NH3 at Malegaon --> Manmad --> Kopargaon --> meeting NH50 @ Sangamner all the way to Pune...
Not that this road is good but it is better than NH50 which I found out this time only, however it is almost 40km shorter...
Regarding cops...The first time I was riding my MP registered WagonR. Did not face any issues, however Maharashtra has got one of the wackiest bunch of Thullas, so you never know....
& since you would be coming on a bike, you wont even have any toll receipts to show that you have just come...
But yes, once you come and use the bike inside Pune...that 'MP' tag on your bike would act as a chick magnet to these besolute money hungry Thullas...for sure...
EDIT: And yes try not to ride during dark on either NH50 or SH10
You can leave a little early from Bhopal since you would be aware of the route (at least till Indore)
Just for your reference:
My last Pune to Bhopal journey
kms: 825.5km
Time taken: 14.5 hours (includes everything, did not stop much)
Bhopal to Pune:
kms: 830 (Entered Nashik)
Time: ~18.5 hours AFAIR
Ride: Ritz Diesel
I opened up Google earth and checked SH10, it seems shorter too.
I'm well aware of the Indore road condition as we usually have GTG's at Dodi highway treat.. Butter smooth roads, we easily do 130+ on our bikes.
i'm actually planning to leave early at around 3:30 - 4:00
So i can cover as much as possible before the Heat kicks in..
as for the night riding, i have an auxiliary HID mounted on the crash guard, so that i can have a good visual..
I just hope the SH10 is not in a very bad shape..
@ indradeep: bout the GTG, yes, im already subscribed to the google SMS channel,
My house is at kalyani nagar extension, pretty far away from the meet-up place, would positively try to come.
