    the BUN BURNER attempt RIDE
    2500 kms. in 2 Days...

    the PLAN...

Me, DK, Ketan, Shiva & Razor were planning to attempt the Bun Burner Ride for quite some months. SO finally in November end, things started to build-up. the timing, plan, will-power & finances, all looked strong. We had a meet at Jugheads where me, DK & Razor met & the dates were decided. Meanwhile Shiva had another plans (yet unrevealed) so he decided to backout. Razor too had decided to ride upto his hometown in south, so only 3 were left. We decided upon a date of 19-20th Dec as ideal time for the attempt. Preparations were on. preparations for us meant, loading up food, chocolates 8 energy bars, n also gearing-up our bikes for the Mega Ride.

    & the RIDE...

It was 19th Dec, 1 AM. I had called-up a few of my close ones & ready to leave, with a lil fear in heart. Ketan & Bibek were waiting for me at Panvel McD, it was 2 AM. It was a cold night, Kool breeze flowing around, the climate was rather say "mystic". A certain curiosity & hyper excitement had filled the atmosphere around Panvel. We rode upto BP petrol pump where we were supposed to meet DK & A2(atularwer). While Atul n Bibek were already present to be our witnesses, DK was yet to arrive. DK came in around 15 mins., it was 3 AM. Bibek n Atul signed the Witness forms, all had n Opening sutta together & voila, we started at 3:30 AM...

3 geared-up Riders, Ripping at breakneck speeds, cutting the freeflowing mighty crosswinds of NH4, dunno if we were even visible apart from DK's HIDs. DK having HIDs was leading. We crossed n ripped through Khopoli, Lonavla, Pune & stopped after around 150 kms. at a tea stall, as we were totally freezed to death, I couldnt feel my palms n fingers, it was 5:15 AM...

We left in 10 mins. & our next stop came at around 120 kms. or so after Satara, it was 6:45 AM. After that there were many breaks, pee, tea n others. We dint stopped for Lunch & proceeded to Bangalore, crossing 200 kms. of no roads, hardly any petrol pumps, no civilization at all, it chewed up our most of the precious time. 50 kms. before Tumkur Me n other two got separated. I reached bangy at our destined time, 5 PM (in 14 hrs.), Samyaza was waiting for us. i called up DK & Ketan to know that they were 55 kms. behind waiting & worried for me thinking I was behind.
Now we knew we had messedup timings. By the time we crossed Bangy with the help of Samyaza, Praful & Darth, it was already 8 PM & we had wasted more than 2 hours, waiting & riding in bangy weekend traffic.

We ripped hard on Bangy-Chennai NH & around 10 PM, we had fairly crossed through bangy incoming highway traffic, more than 150 kms. in 2 hrs., with a brief Petrol Stop of nearly 20 mins.
Me & Ketan were ahead & decided to stop for DK to catch-up (the first of its kind Bat who goes blind at night). He came in a few seconds & told that he was feeling damn sleepy n just avoided sumthing bad. we waited for a few mins, had water (glucose wala) & started ripping at high speeds of 130 kmph on that amazing NH-46 (Rossi's link surely had worked wonders). Around 11 PM we had crossed more 120 kms., total around 270 kms. & the mile stone was now showing some 100 kms. to Chennai., I was ripping ahead & had just avoided a collision with the divider. It was now more than 1300 kms. from my place (Andheri) & straight 20 hrs. of continious ripping. & it had taken a toll on me. I found n stopped at a tea stall, waited for DK n Ketan to arrive. We discussed the situation & the timings, n it seemed almost impossible to practically cross that 200 kms. of no road stretch at night n with current conditions of our body. Here we decided to give-up n make a Ride safe back home to Mumbai...

The moment was very Sad, Confused & Discouraging, but we choose Sensibility, rather than going on with can-be-fatal-Madness.

    the MISTAKE...

All three of us, were awake since 18th morning, went to work/job, got tired, still dint took any rest & directly started A RIDE, which needed a much more sensible planning & a high metabolism.
This affected us alot more than that small communication gap.

    the EXPERIENCE...

It was indeed an Eye-Opener Ride, as Ketan said. It isnt at all about Biking, but your endurance & your love for your bike.
All 3 Bikes, My ZMA-R & DK/Ketan's R15s, performed flawlessly throughout the ride, when we were constantly ripping at 120 kmph+. through smooth tar/concrete road or even through almost 200 kms. of off-roads.
It had helped us to open our minds n think more practically & less mathematically.

Still our maths+practicals made us ride 2500 kms., through 3 states & 3 NHs, in just 2 days.
    Mumbai-Bangalore-Chennai-Bangalore-Mumbai... Phew!

    the MOMENTS...

*crossing the 200 kms. of dust filled almost off-roads at insane speeds with Zero Visibility at Night.
*Ripping n crossing 140 kmph at Night on NH-46.
    *the breakfast Dosa on NH-46
*People asking us, "Tum log Roadies wale ho kya?" (are you the Roadies guys?)
*expressions on local's faces, when we told them we came from Mumbai n had just started a few hours back.
*Hallucinations while riding in the early hours of morning. Frankly I saw a sharp left curve that turnedout to be a straight when i opened my eyes. Trees were looking like building n monuments. me n Ketan were seeing non-existing shadows n figures running across the roads. Man it was dAMN SCARY...
*the power nap near pune while coming back.
*Ripping on NICE road with Bangy xbhp'ians, Sam, Praful & darth. NICE road, as DK said is an easy substitude for a TRACK, took my ZMA-R at 145+ kmph & Ketan overtook/crossed me at 149 kmph...
*the Tea break at a Punjabi Dhaba in middle of nowhere in Karnataka on NH4.
*Riding with two best known Riders from Mumbai (Darkknight & Ketan_r15) is itself an experience I think... CHEERS!!!

Sharing some of My Fastest Rides/Runs with mah ZMA-R...

Spidy, DK & Ketan - that was indeed an effort. Kudos

A little disappointing that you guys missed the huge target by a very small margin. But then, life is more about those missed targets than those acheived targets. Cheers again

              • Great stuff Spidy, Dk, Ketan. Any New Year rides being planned?
For the 1st day of 2010 I intend to go either on a solo ride on my 1st ever visit to the roads of Lavasa OR probably increase my endurance/stamina for a 400+km trip. [My longest has sadly been only 321kms in a day. please dont laugh. ]

Any suggestions and tips will be most appreciated. DK told me that Bibek is going towards that side over the weekend. I wouldn't mind a fellow rider on the trip.
As for Lavasa I will also speak to NV/Inder.
                10 Commandments:
1)Thank thy God for being alive.
2)Thou shalt respect one's own life and the live's of other road users.
3)Thou shalt respect one's own bike.
4)Love thy bike as thy self.
                5)Always wear safety gear.
                6)Alcohol is a strict NO!
7)Thou may lust after thy neighbour's bike specially if its of the R1 kind!
8)Thou shalt ride with 'ultra-most' care and caution when on Indian roads.
9)Thou shalt never leave the engine running at long traffic halts.
10)Thou shalt follow all of the above.

It's very simple sir if you know how to reach Pune..

                      From Malad, reach Panvel.

From Kalamboli circle take the JNPT road.

At the end of the JNPT road, you'll enter the NH4 which'll take you all the way till Pune.(After khopoli you cross the small Lonavala ghat and enter the M-P expressway. Get out of the expressway at Lonavala exit. There onwards it's straight road till Pune)

Dont forget to take the right turn at Dehu Road Junction.

Once you reach Chandni chowk, Pune..ask anyone how to reach Lavasa and anyone can guide you. It's around 30-40 kms from Chandni Chowk off the National Highway...
