Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.
1200 kms done on my GS150R.. Did not service even once due to many reasons.. Ride @ 50 KMPH, decent mileage & power!
Have I screwed up forever? Or is recovery possible? & how?
*nervous*
Did not get a satisfactory reply in Help me :-S

To ride or not to ride?? is a....
very very stupid question....
Hi All at Mumbai : Just spoke to NV & this is what has been discussed & posted on pune thread. please go through it only if you have time & donot just skim through it. This will also be appended & added to the first post in mumbai thread too.
"Yesterday, most of the experienced members at Pune xBhp met at Hotel Roopali. The agenda was to discuss and analyze the events that happened at Lavasa on Sunday, 26th September, 2010. Safety being the only prime important aspect, the following rules and protocols were decided. Incidentally, these rules were already in place and were flouted during the last weekend.
The originator of the ride is the only person who is responsible for the safety of the entire group that rides with him on that day. He has to ensure discipline and be the rule enforcer. In the absence of the originator, any member (senior or not), can assume leadership on that ride provided he justifies that position by actions (read enforcement of basic rules).
No rider should be allowed to be a part of the group if he/she does not comply with the minimum document rule and the safety gear rule (read the first post of this thread for more info). Participants without helmet, elbow guards, knee guards and proper footwear to be excluded from the ride. If an erring participant is stubborn, the ride is to be called off. This decision has to be followed religiously.
No overtaking on the corners. This is most important. Particularly on the way to Lavasa and even during the practice runs on our practice patch, please ensure that you do not overtake anyone on the corners...be it your riding mate or any other vehicle. If you feel that you are faster than the guy in the front, ensure that you have a proper straight and honk/flash before overtaking. The idea here is to ensure that the person being overtaken knows your intentions and gives you a side. During practice runs, if you feel that the guy in front is holding you up, wait for the practice run in that direction to get over and then request him/her to let you go first.
No Lane cutting. This was discussed earlier and there is a tendancy to cut lanes. There are situations when you might be compelled to cut lanes (carrying more speed while cornering etc) but as far as possible, try to curb that habit and stay in your lane.
No tailgating. Many riders ride close to the rider in the front. This leads to a lot of incidents where there is a possibility of riders getting entangled if there is any panic braking from the guy in the front. As far as possible, maintain three bike lengths of distance to as to give yourself the room to stop properly and avoid any obstacle.
Discipline and Advise. If you are riding with the seniors, chances are that they will give you an advise on your riding if they see anything wrong. Please take that advise in a proper way. Do not bring in any ego while learning. In fact, all the seniors themselves keep on commenting and advising each other if they see anything wrong. Every ride is a learning opportunity and one should try to get the maximum from it.
Tank up overnight. Due to the varied preferences of fuel, please ensure that you tank up the day before your ride. Most of the times, we waste time waiting for people to fill in their fuel tanks, jumping from one fuel station to the other.
Any person not complying with these rules is essentially creating a bad name, not just for the group but for the entire biker community. As such, anyone found flouting these for the first time will be issued a warning. A second time offense will invite a ban from at least two rides with the group. A third time offense will invite a lifetime infraction/Ban from the group and also from xBhp.
As my good friend Rohan quotes "A good rider is not the one who scrapes his knee or goes around fast. A good rider is the one who knows his limits and rides fast staying in his capabilities.". This is so true. Many a times, riders behind follow the leaders into corners and straights trying to keep even distance and ride well above their comfort zones.
The key is, stay in your comfort zone. No one is going to find faults with you or label you as a slouch. Such riders are always assets to the group and will always stay safe.
Please note that we are not interested in being villains but our community is much more than a plain biker group. It stands for safety and quality more than anything else.
The above mentioned rules are quite generic and are not limited to the groups riding to Lavasa. On any given weekend, there are many rides happening in and around Pune. The rules mentioned above are applicable to each one of those rides. The participating members may inform about erring participants either on a G2G or on the thread.
Would like it if the group agrees to these rules unitedly and focuses on achieving trouble free rides weekend after weekend. "
Over to the above points I am adding my own. This is with concern to many a new members joining in at mumbai group.
As all the time seniors can't be present in each & every ride this point concerns to that fact.
As an addition to point one every ride irrespective of newbies, oldies or whatever should be conducted in the same manner.
i.e. there will be a leader & people will ride in formation with a sweeper at the back.
The leader also holds responsibility for that particular ride.
As plans are posted here (plans on FB are not xbhp rides & are at your own risks & would request all of you to refrain from doing that )
If no senior is present one of the four (me,ketan, satyen & spidy) will give a call the previous day of the ride & confirm for the all the points mentioned above.
Again this is not to demean anyone but rather a process to create better riders & good leaders.
Yup.. I was reading these points on Pune thread a while ago but had to leave for some work urgently. Just finished reading the entire post.
I would like to add one more thing. Don't know if this can be added as a separate point or not but I have had this experience while I was leading/supposed to lead in past rides.
"A Lead rider and a sweeper is assigned at the start of every ride. But during the ride people do overtake the leader and then again let him go pass and take the lead after some time. Sometimes the Leader rides slow. He rides slow because there must be some reason behind it, bad roads ahead, traffic, animals on the road or any reason. So the point is no matter how slow the leader rides, riders behind the leader should NEVER overtake him and go past. Otherwise there's no point in having a leader for the ride. Leader has the entire responsibility to guide and control the rest of the group behind. Overtaking the leader somewhere in the middle of the ride, be it just for a few minutes and then again letting him go ahead, makes no sense in having a leader for that ride.
Same goes with the sweeper, he should never lose his position as sweeper by overtaking the rider in front of him no matter how slow the rider is."
I know just the words 'lead rider' and 'sweeper' explain their duties very well but I have seen such incidences happening, especially while riding with a big group. Hence thought of clearing it in even more detail.
I Believe that we still have some way to go with Overtaking and Lane cutting points, we need to work on it.
Ride formations,. we definitely can improve a little bit here too, better communication (like the hand signs we used when we were at the twisties at lavasa) should help, It should be second nature for us to use these signs or any other accepted sign/indication language when we are in group riding.
The FB part is little tricky.
Even if we are organising a trip via FB we are still essentially xbhpians, and safety should still be of prime importance.
We shoudn't shun FB, If we share our rides/ organise rides on FB too, we will generate awareness. (regarding to xbhp, safety, our riding culture.)
Might even make them gear up fully.
my 2cents,
EDIT: ketan sir, discipline should be stressed at each and every ride, and explained that the ride formations, lead and tail are for the indivudial's as well as the group's safety.
Very nice points covered there DK & NV. An equally important point added by ketan too which was noticed.
The rules, formation, hand signals, all where followed quiet well at times in big groups I have been in the past with xBHP. Just need to make this more stringent, primarily for the sake of an individual rider. Cause, while riding in a big or small group, the rider on his bike is all alone to tackle the situations.
Even one more thing would like to add up or put into notice is; If any rider is a newbie or feels uncomfortable at a certain speed the group is riding on, or if he his bit nervous on riding on ghats/rains/fog or some unfamiliar terrains. He should take initiative of putting a foot forward & letting any other group member or entire group know about this. So that the group or 'riding neighbors' can take extra care of him & help me out if needed. This is extremely important, else the comfort of every rider is assumed to be considered fine with others. There's no point in either keeping an ego or feeling inferior saying - "Hey, am bit nervous riding on the curves or in the rains or riding on XYZ speeds. Can you please ride slow...."
Afterall, even each experienced member here was sometime a newbie & amateur & we all are here to learn & help each other. Thats what this community is all about.!! Lets Ride Hard, But Ride Safe.!!

+1 This is seen very often, the formation etc stays for 10 - 15 mins from when the ride begins, if the leaders is trying to overtake some vehicle from the right, there are people who overtake it from the left and go ahead of the leader, this behaviour should be particularly avoided.

Very very important point, I still remember managing a ride with more than 30 Bikes from mumbai including an Activa etc, but satyen had trailed everyone with patience.....
All the members new or old should remember this.
All the seniors in xBHP are very helpfull and patient, we just need to convey our worries and discomfort, and i am sure it will be taken care off immediately.
sigpic
Respect the nature and it will respect you back.....
This is more or less what we had kickstarted in the introduction g2g as well. Sadly those posts got deleted during the outage.
Also apart from the points already discussed, would also want to reiterate that organizing a trip on FB, or on another forum elsewhere does not discount the need for safety.
I have heard people saying that it was a casual trip that we planned on xyz.com or FB and so we didn’t pay attention. I have had a near death accident, and trust me it didn’t ask me if I was going to office or if I was out on a trip! I don’t know if it asks posts death, so wont comment on that!! And I am 110% sure neither the bystanders nor the doctors or anyone else asked me if I belong to a certain bike community!!!
So irrespective of where the plan was made you have to imbibe these rule within yourself!!!
The point is simple, these are basic rules which comes after a LOT of experience…! So better stick to it!
Edit: +1 to Dinesh, we are patient, but patient when it comes to helping each other... If you need any help with the gears, or about your bike or anything rest assured you drop a line to any senior memeber here and they would help in the best possible manner.... Try ignoring the rules and we will happily kick you in your nuts!!
