  • Chanced upon the last few posts on this thread, kudos to the senior guys for laying down the rules strictly (though I dont know about refraining from the FB ride thingy). Here in Blore, we have had unfortunate incidents in the last couple of rides. People dont seem to realise that buying riding gear does not make them a safe rider.

P.S - Satyen, loved the "Try ignoring the rules and we will happily kick you in your nuts! " bit.

    • I meant irrespective of which site or what triggered the ride... the rider HAS to start following these rules as a habit, rather than expecting someone to impose it as a mandate.

      • good discussions going on

would like to particularly hear about people who haven't been on ride with seniors or in groups or none at all.

Also when I mentioned names it was just a few as any or other respected & reponsible guys( razor ,winzee, rachit, anup etc) may call or meet depending on location for the rides where none of them can personally escort.

Just spoke to NV & this is what has been discussed & posted on pune thread.
please go through it only if you have time & donot just skim through it.
This will also be appended & added to the first post in mumbai thread too.

"Yesterday, most of the experienced members at Pune xBhp met at Hotel Roopali. The agenda was to discuss and analyze the events that happened at Lavasa on Sunday, 26th September, 2010. Safety being the only prime important aspect, the following rules and protocols were decided. Incidentally, these rules were already in place and were flouted during the last weekend.
                        1. The originator of the ride is the only person who is responsible for the safety of the entire group that rides with him on that day. He has to ensure discipline and be the rule enforcer. In the absence of the originator, any member (senior or not), can assume leadership on that ride provided he justifies that position by actions (read enforcement of basic rules).
                        2. No rider should be allowed to be a part of the group if he/she does not comply with the minimum document rule and the safety gear rule (read the first post of this thread for more info). Participants without helmet, elbow guards, knee guards and proper footwear to be excluded from the ride. If an erring participant is stubborn, the ride is to be called off. This decision has to be followed religiously.
                        3. No overtaking on the corners. This is most important. Particularly on the way to Lavasa and even during the practice runs on our practice patch, please ensure that you do not overtake anyone on the corners...be it your riding mate or any other vehicle. If you feel that you are faster than the guy in the front, ensure that you have a proper straight and honk/flash before overtaking. The idea here is to ensure that the person being overtaken knows your intentions and gives you a side. During practice runs, if you feel that the guy in front is holding you up, wait for the practice run in that direction to get over and then request him/her to let you go first.
                        4. No Lane cutting. This was discussed earlier and there is a tendancy to cut lanes. There are situations when you might be compelled to cut lanes (carrying more speed while cornering etc) but as far as possible, try to curb that habit and stay in your lane.
                        5. No tailgating. Many riders ride close to the rider in the front. This leads to a lot of incidents where there is a possibility of riders getting entangled if there is any panic braking from the guy in the front. As far as possible, maintain three bike lengths of distance to as to give yourself the room to stop properly and avoid any obstacle.
                        6. Discipline and Advise. If you are riding with the seniors, chances are that they will give you an advise on your riding if they see anything wrong. Please take that advise in a proper way. Do not bring in any ego while learning. In fact, all the seniors themselves keep on commenting and advising each other if they see anything wrong. Every ride is a learning opportunity and one should try to get the maximum from it.
                        7. Tank up overnight. Due to the varied preferences of fuel, please ensure that you tank up the day before your ride. Most of the times, we waste time waiting for people to fill in their fuel tanks, jumping from one fuel station to the other.
                        8. Any person not complying with these rules is essentially creating a bad name, not just for the group but for the entire biker community. As such, anyone found flouting these for the first time will be issued a warning. A second time offense will invite a ban from at least two rides with the group. A third time offense will invite a lifetime infraction/Ban from the group and also from xBhp.
                        9. As my good friend Rohan quotes "A good rider is not the one who scrapes his knee or goes around fast. A good rider is the one who knows his limits and rides fast staying in his capabilities.". This is so true. Many a times, riders behind follow the leaders into corners and straights trying to keep even distance and ride well above their comfort zones.
The key is, stay in your comfort zone. No one is going to find faults with you or label you as a slouch. Such riders are always assets to the group and will always stay safe.

Please note that we are not interested in being villains but our community is much more than a plain biker group. It stands for safety and quality more than anything else.

The above mentioned rules are quite generic and are not limited to the groups riding to Lavasa. On any given weekend, there are many rides happening in and around Pune. The rules mentioned above are applicable to each one of those rides. The participating members may inform about erring participants either on a G2G or on the thread.

Would like it if the group agrees to these rules unitedly and focuses on achieving trouble free rides weekend after weekend. "

Over to the above points I am adding my own. This is with concern to many a new members joining in at mumbai group.
As all the time seniors can't be present in each & every ride this point concerns to that fact.
As an addition to point one every ride irrespective of newbies, oldies or whatever should be conducted in the same manner.
i.e. there will be a leader & people will ride in formation with a sweeper at the back.
The leader also holds responsibility for that particular ride.
As plans are posted here (plans on FB are not xbhp rides & are at your own risks & would request all of you to refrain from doing that )
If no senior is present one of the four (me,ketan, satyen & spidy) will give a call the previous day of the ride & confirm for the all the points mentioned above.

Again this is not to demean anyone but rather a process to create better riders & good leaders.

Any other point thought upon will be duly added

                        Thanks.
Sounds boring and restrictive at first glance ... but if the things mentioned here are transformed into (accepted as) a habbit/lifestyle (biking is our lifestyle) then surely all this would be just like changing gears of the bike which for a newbie is a headache to learn and do it but once he accepts it as a part of riding bike and embeds into himself so much so that its all done subconsciously without putting any extra efforts then everything would seem as normal !!

Crux of that comparison is not to force rules (which in turn may lead to "rules are to break" attitude) but educate bikers more to make it as a habit and part of their lifestyles .... I sincerely guess we (if not we then me) lack it and have to work hard over it till we do it on our own subconsciously !

PS: Every person learns from his/her own experiences (good/bad) and I guess some learn it the hard way ...... So even if some biker breaks one of the above 'rule' (I hate to say that word) then please instead of making him feel like an outcast through out the ride & later (like one of my friend was treated recently) kindly give that defaulter a fair chance (1 warning which dk has mentioned) and convince him not to repeat it again in future .... It will surely make a positive impact on the biker ... As it is banning or out-casting him wont change his way of riding ... Infact making him part of future successful rides will make him more confident and convinced on the "safety" aspects of the ride and the "fun" associated with it ..... Its my humble request and not aimed at pointing fingers on anyone of you ..... It will surely motivate lots of newbies to integrate safely into our community !!

i have read all the details before and yet again...totally appreciate and support all that has been mentioned...its just that I TEND TO BE A GOOD LISTENER WHEN THE SENIORS ARE DOING THE TALKING...

now to add to it i have seen and experienced fellow riders especially the new ones(to biking and to xbhp) disapproving the attitude of the senior bikers here or on any of the rides...that shouldnt be the case...keep in mind they are NOT trying to dominate you or bully you...for a fact primarily they just want you to be safe along with the other riders and secondarily when you are riding with the xBhp tag...noone would want to spoil the name or make a bad impression of it!!

i personally feel discipline should start with oneself...know how to ride with a group...learn...if not listen to what other riders have to say and obey !! you may have k's of kms under your belt...but when you are with a group...things are totally different....okay you may know many things but there may be new people who dont know all of those and are eager to know....help them out...we all are here sharing the same passion and religion BIKING ! Retain brotherhood...if you do not gel along with the other riders stay calm...not all fingers of the same hand are the same...but all of them are on the same hand eventually...

for the riding gear that has to be worn and has been made mandatory...its only and only for your own safety....you may think "the concept of bike riding itself is risky...so even if there is a major accident how much would the gears help?" keep such thoughts to yourself when you are with xBhp...here rules are rules which cannot be broken nor can they be bent....if anyone still disagrees one should himself stay out...coz it would be better than being kicked in the #### as satyen mentioned.....

                              cheers,
                              happy and safe riding !!

A very good and safe biker not only because he can pop up either of the wheels, scrape his knees on a corner or go fast and make it look stylish but because he very well knows his limits and capabilities and has the patience to learn about others and ride safe ! :)

                                Thanks.
Hey DK bro, Thanks for sharing this on this forum.

Totally agree with you Rony, coz I haven't been on rides with Xbhp for probably half a decade now, however have heard a couple of incidents where newbies were outcasted on some rides and the message I got was really negative. Now these so called stories i am referiing to may be for various reasons; like attitude/ego issues or whateva.

However I just wanted to share my views that though by heart I AM an XBHP loyalist; sometimes I really wonder if riding with new faces wud be worth it after all such stories.

Hey Nin: I strongly agree with you on the resposibility of riding/being family member with Xbhp here. I personally sense the pride with the sticker on my baby.

Sharing the passion of Biking, HELL YA! and safety being the prime concern.

@ Satyem: Dude u rock man! I would have loved to join u but my baby is in real bad shape so service statio is my priority this weekend. Hope to catch you soon some ther time.

My Apologies for not trying to be politically correct here and pouring my heart out here. I am not much of an active person on this forum (not really good at penning my thoughts ), but thought I should share my views with all my fellow riders.

I have 1 last question (as of now):

Since I ride to work (weekdays; Powai to Thane) and some places within Mumbai (Weekends). What do you guys think do I have to have a Jacket (refering to DSG; which use for my rides out of Mumbai) apart from my helmet; which I religiously use at all times.

I know its for my safety and all that but wanted to get a general view by all.

All Senior Xbhpians, Kudos to you all for the fantastic job you guys have been doing.
