1. Varanasi to Kolkata road condition is more or less in good condition... yes u can make it in a dayOriginally posted by The Monk View PostHappy Diwali Kolkata xbhpians...
Need some help with a ride I am planning. I would be grateful for a few comments and suggestions on my following queries-
1. How is the road from Varanasi to Kolkata. How many riding hours does it take? Can it be done in a day?
2. Is it possible to do Kolkata to Siliguri in a day? If yes, how many hours?
3. Planning to do Bhutan/ Sikkim in April 2012. Any suggestions would be real helpful.
4. Is there anyway in which I can avoid having to enter Kolkata, like turn off the GQ before Kolkata from Varanasi and move directly to Siliguri. Saving a few hundred kms and a lot of time?
5. Anything else that I should keep in mind while riding through West Bengal at this time of the year?
Thanks

3. Call me at 9831619800... I may help u
4. u can take nh-31 but road condition is very bad
5. many things... u can call me
Thanks

Question 1. You do not want to enter Kolkata then why do you want to come to Kolkata first and then head to Siliguri? You can take instead NH 19, 57, and then on NH 31 from Varanasi itself. It is 686 kms according to Google. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri, West Bengal - Google MapsOriginally posted by The Monk View PostHappy Diwali Kolkata xbhpians...

Rest points:
1. Road from Varansi to Kol is very good, with exceptional stretch between Dhanbad/Asansol to Kolkata (except Panagarah area, where the highway is 2 lanes only).
TIP: Take the wrong side lane after crossing Durgapur and just before entering Panagarh; you'll see a lot of cars/buses doing so. Doing that, you'll be saving a lot of time and you'll be headed direcctly on that pathetic 2 lanes both way road, just cross it and you're back to the great 4 lanes GQ in around 20 mins! Varansi-Kolkata can be done in 10-12 hours including few short breaks and a lunch break if you start early morning.
2. Yes. No idea about exact hours. I haven't done it, my plan is postponed to December.
3. Me too, in December only. Tell me if you get to know anything
4. You can take left from Bardhaman itself (NH 2B) or if you're coming to Kolkata then you can avoid entering Kolkata by heading till airport and taking left just before the airport flyover to the NH 34. (Avoid this as it is the highway in its worst case, the Bally-Airport stretch
)
5. Till Kolkata, nothing serious as such. Its little chilly during early morning hours these days with fog also

Thanks bro. But the route you charted out is going right through Bihar. Something I do not want to do. That is why I am taking the big detour via Kolkata. But I was thinking if once I enter West Bengal if I can cut off at some point towards Siliguri instead of continuing towards Kolkata.Originally posted by sunny_ View PostQuestion 1. And a little chilly Kolkata wont affect me much, considering that I am heading out from a place where the minimum winter temps reaches -3degrees centigrade

Then as said earlier, you can take the left turn from Bardhaman(almost 90kms before Kolkata) and in that case you won't be crossing Bihar. Bardhaman, West Bengal to Siliguri, West Bengal - Google Maps Varanasi-Bardhaman = 573 kms + Bardhaman-Siliguri = 507 kms = Total 1080 kmsOriginally posted by The Monk View PostThanks bro. By the way, Varanasi-Kolkata route also passes through some parts of Bihar, I don't know what makes you choose such a long route.
That chilly part was as compared to the regular weather in Calcutta.

because those 220 projectors have a good quality....Originally posted by sunny_ View PostI don't think only projectors would cost you that much!!
Besides, why are you worried for P220's projectors only?
and me too think the same, if i have to buy only a projector lens for 1500 bucks, i'll surely have a heart attack....that too chinese ones
