Small update from my end for the upcoming road trip. Trust me it's going to be one long long day of riding.

Route plan:-

Chennai - Trichy - Via NH45

Trichy - Melur - Via NH45B

Melur - Madurai - Via NH45B

Madurai(byepass) - Thirumangalam - Via Kappalore - Airport Road

Thirumangalam - T. Kallupatti - NH 744

T. Kallupatti - Sriviliputhu - NH 744

Sriviliputhur - Rajapalayam - NH 744

Rajapalayam - Kadayanallur - NH 744

Kadayanallur - Thenkasi - NH 744

Nishant:- In the event of my absence kindly take this print out(optional) and discuss it over with others during the weekend. May be some could pitch in with suggestions if need be. Though we have time, still I thought to give an idea about the distance.

CBE guys (Karthikeyen & VJ) :- I'm not sure what route are you going to take. However, looking at the google map. You guys can actually meet Chennai group IF, at Thirumangalam nearby Junction via Pollachi, Dindugal etc.

Chennai - Tenkasi

As Sriram Said, *IT IS GOING TO BE A LONG RIDING DAY - 650 Kilometers*

Chennai - Madurai is about 450 Kilometers - This is the easy part
Madurai - Tenkasi is about 175 Kilometers - This is the tough part
The toughest part is to ride in a Organized way, Without losing out / Dropping out on riding time / order.

Chennai - Madurai can be done in :

4.5 hours to Chennai - Trichy (Very Relaxed)

Breakfast in / around Trichy - 30 minutes

2 hours for Trichy - Madurai

Lunch in / around Madurai - 1 hour

4 Hours for Madurai - Tenkasi

Total Misc Breaks ~ 1 hour.

So *If* we start by 5 AM, from Chennai - We can expect to be there by 6 PM.

Chennai - Madurai is a pure 6 Lane - Boring Highway - Good for constant triple digit speeds (I covered this in 4.5 hours during saddle sore)

We dont have much inputs on Madurai - Tenkasi road (For all we know, They are state Highway, So expect to be pushed off the road by local buses)

Now, We need to get into an understanding *IF* we (as a group) are OK to ride for 12 + hours in Mid - March humid weather.

Please raise your voice & convey if you are feeling it may push your riding skills - Your opinion matters NOW, Than while being on the road.

Only if we fix the Day 1 itinerary, We can concentrate on finalizing the complete trip itinerary. So, Please voice your opinion / suggestions / comments / anything you want to express. THANKS!

Exactly...I am a regular traveler through this road( except for past 6 months)..Road conditions are always OK... But as you have said Local buses and tourist vans make your travel a headache!! But since its March the peak exam period expect less traffic!

I understand the difficulty of getting up early AM. Considering that we all don't have the same type of bikes, it would be best to start early to compensate any delay that may arise with the second group during the journey. If not all, atleast would help to minimize riding in the dark. I hope everyone understand my justification.

I would suggest Chennai-Madurai-Virudhunagar-Tirunelveli-Tenkasi. Check the google maps Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Thenkasi, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps

The road till Tirunelveli is 4/6 lane national highway except for the 25 km Madurai Byepass(Sivaganga Rd to Kappalore - Airport Ring Rd - Google Maps). Travelled this stretch one month back.

Tirunelveli-Tenkasi is state highway. Don't know the road condition. Overall, we might have to ride extra 20-30 kms, but we will be riding only 60 kms in state highway instead of 170kms.

Sriram, keep me in tentative list for the ride.

I don't think so. It's just below 150kms either way (NH or ECR). However, newbies can feel free to let the group lead know should they need one.

Yes, don't worry! Even Sri and Nishant will need to take a leak or smoke somewhere enroute!!

You can "Afford" to start by 7 AM & still catch up - Need not worry, What you need to worry about is the 650 Kilometers on the stretch

Agree, We can split the group into two.

Thanks for the inputs Pratheep. I was thinking of doing this route while returning (We will be visiting places south west of Thirunelveli) & so easier to come back on Day 4.

Also, I planned 4 AM start considering the group speed and the distance that we need to cover. Definitely this is going to be a test to myself.
