Won't make it...
Wish I could join for the next prep-ride. Leaving for home on 3rd for the Holi week
@Sreeram: I think I need some more long rides before I can go for a 700 km a day ride (having done only 360 km in a day till date). I might have decided otherwise if I wud have been able to join on 3rd March.
Anyways, the journey has just started for me with the group. I'll work my way through to be mentally and physically capable to do big rides like Kutralam.

I can understand. I'd rather keep the options for members to take a call (democratic way).Originally posted by Brat View PostAmriti forest!! Interesting or not, voted purely because it is farther.
If 360kms was from our recent Pondy trip, then I would say just enough the half the distance of Kuttralam ride. I appreciate your enthusiasm in preparing for long road trips if not for the upcoming one.Originally posted by madhavparashar View PostWish I could join for the next prep-ride. During our long road trip rides, the timelines might be aggressive in order to reach the destination safe and minimize riding in the dark.
One should take plenty of water during the ride to keep themselves hydrated as it would reduce the fatigue and energy bars to keep you attentive.
Man and machine in good condition ensure safe and enjoyable journey.
Well, close to the ride dates, shall come up with some pointers to benefit.RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

Route information
Amidst the heavy discussions regarding the Kutralam ride and pre-rides , I am borrowing some part for my route query
I am planning on a 5 days ride on Coastal TN. Need inputs on the route suggestions and road conditions .
Day 1 - Bangalore - Tirunelveli - I think this route is pretty simple with NH all the way. How is the road from Madurai to Tirunelveli ?
Day 2 - Tirunelveli - Kanyakumari - Thoothukudi - No idea about the road condition
Day 3 - Thoothukudi - Rameshwaram - How to visit Dhanudhkodi and any time restrictions on the same?
Day 4 - Rameshwaram - Velankanni - Point Calimere - Road conditions?
Day 5 - Point Calimere - Cuddalore - Pondy - Chennai
Please suggest if there are any must visit places in the above routes .
Thanks in advance!

Awesome all the way.I think you may even hit Kanyakumari the same *night* if you could push in a little.Originally posted by M@n()J View PostDay 1 - Bangalore - Tirunelveli - I think this route is pretty simple with NH all the way. How is the road from Madurai to Tirunelveli ?
Tirunelveli - K'kumari - GoodOriginally posted by M@n()J View PostDay 2 - Tirunelveli - Kanyakumari - Thoothukudi - No idea about the road condition
K'kumari - Thoothukkudi - Nice, Winding roads along the wind mills - I loved the route, But the roads are a little bumpy and not much traffic.
Same as Day 2 - Dhanushkodi is possible - There is a check post where the road ends & the beach shore road starts. The guy would normally let u pass, unless you have a bad day!Originally posted by M@n()J View PostDay 3 - Thoothukudi - Rameshwaram - How to visit Dhanudhkodi and any time restrictions on the same?
Pretty much "OK" - It is going to be dry, lots of town traffic. But nothing to worry about.Originally posted by M@n()J View PostDay 4 - Rameshwaram - Velankanni - Point Calimere - Road conditions?
Make sure u get the accommodation in Point calimere (if you want to stay there that is) else stay in Vedaranyam / Nagapattinam
Point Calimer - Cudalore - Decent - Few bad patches, most of them are redone - Be careful around Cuddalore thanks to the last cyclone, roads might be bad.Originally posted by M@n()J View PostDay 5 - Point Calimere - Cuddalore - Pondy - Chennai
Do you really want the road conditions between Pondy & Chennai?
And my Itinerary would be :
1 : Blore - Madurai - K'kumari
2: K'kumari - Rameshwaram
3: Rameshwaram - Point Calimere
4: Point Calimere - Pondy
5: Pondy - ChennaiPhoto Gallery[/B]

Road Conditions as per December
Day 1 - Bangalore - Tirunelveli - I think this route is pretty simple with NH all the way. How is the road from Madurai to Tirunelveli ?
Road is pretty good. Not to worry!
Day 2 - Tirunelveli - Kanyakumari - Thoothukudi - No idea about the road condition
You will have lots of traffic, trucks & lorries and road condition is not so good at Tirunelveli bypass (construction work going on) After bypass beautiful roads and good views! You will enjoy it!
Day 3 - Thoothukudi - Rameshwaram - How to visit Dhanudhkodi and any time restrictions on the same?
Pretty okay road. Not to worry much. I guess no time restrictions is there for Dhanudhkodi. but its better you go before noon. Because after that it will be too hot and later coastal winds will also increase
Day 4 - Rameshwaram - Velankanni - Point Calimere - Road conditions?
Good roads. At some places roads are not so good near Velankanni. Other wise its okay!
Day 5 - Point Calimere - Cuddalore - Pondy - Chennai
Roads are in good condition
Please suggest if there are any must visit places in the above routes .
@Kanyakumari: Getting roams for single person is tough.
Try going to Nagercoil, if possible! But it will take a whole day.
I guess day 2 is not possible, If you wanna see sunset/sunrise. Dont miss it!
Thanks in advance!
Agreed with Ananth Plan!
And if possible add Point Calimere - Chidambaram (Mangrove Forest) - Pondy
Add Tranquebar to the list if possible. (its a small place - visit danish fort)
