Its a short route, but a long way to go on two laned highway Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India - Google MapsOriginally posted by thegame0012 View PostCan you please show that on Google map and put a link here, lets check that out
Ram, on your 1st suggestion to Amirthi, the issue lies with the SH between Tindivanam - Arani, where the road is shattered. But, its a good idea to ride there before getting to Kutralam as that should be the road condition of SH's. But for sure its more than half a day trip & expect to return only by 3:00 to 4:00 PM back to Chennai, if started by 6:00 AM.
Long time...Originally posted by GP_freak View PostAgreed without second thoughts.

How about riding to Tirupathi hills & come back? Do we have to get permission to raid the hills? I've been there 15 years back. OR this plan Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps.Originally posted by aargee View Post

Shortest round trip might work to 250+ Kms on two lane highway; via NH5 would be more than that.Originally posted by whizzkid_ram View PostHow about riding to Tirupathi hills & come back?
Poondi round trip is good, but I don't the condition of the route (and remember to take puncture kit as that route is very remote).
This one we've done several months ago, just that it is additional 10 Kms more than Poondi - Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps
Or follow the other one I suggested via ECR-Thirukazhankundram-Chengalpet-Walajabad-Kanchipuram-NH4-ChennaiSkill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

I'm ok. Would think that would give an idea about riding through the state highways. I'm open for others to express their opinion.Originally posted by whizzkid_ram View PostNishant & Sriram What about Amirti Forest that We had fun on some twisties & off roading while on the return leg?
Originally posted by whizzkid_ram View PostNo, its a place where our chennai xbhpians had a pre ride before Yercaud Tristate G2G. I am not sure whether its doable by other members as it comes out totally around 385 kms
or we can take the same NH4 route on the return leg too if we don't want it to be a circuit ride. This is it. We will wait for co-riders opinion too.

Yes. I would prefer to do this pre-ride since it would give mix of both NH and State highway experience. It's nothing great about the Amriti Forest and hardly anthing could be interesting. But the route would give a good experience for those doing it for the first time.Originally posted by aargee View PostIts a short route, but a long way to go on two laned highway Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps

Also, request members to reserve the day for the pre-ride if possible. Let this be like one day trip where we spend some time interacting with the group.
@Arrivealone:- You preferred to learn in a hard way so there you go. Anyways, bury the past conversation and I'm looking forward for the pre-ride. You're welcome to join the group. @Ram - Samma freeya erukka pola? lol... Anyways, the pics look good. Hope to see Poondi the same as in the pics.
I mean the water level. Also, if I'm not wrong, we might not be allowed close to the dam area due to security?!?!
So we have options for the pre-ride. So let's ask the members to give a shout on the options we have.
1. Amriti Forest - 350-380kms round trip
2. Poondi - 120-150kms round tripRX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

Looking at the pictures, I would prefer Amriti forest as it looks somewhat more interesting than Poondi. Still open to other's opinions. Let's go with the majority.Originally posted by SriramEfunds View Post@Ram - Samma freeya erukka pola? lol... Anyways, the pics look good. Hope to see Poondi the same as in the pics.

Tentative for pre ride !!!
I'm tentative for the 2nd Pre Ride with chennai group as I will be travelling to bangalore same day. But I'm still happy as I will be riding on my bike all the way. I will suggest to take the amriti Forest as it will be a good Practice ride with close to 200 kms one way. But as Aargee already pointed out, its going to be time consuming and will take 1 full day. So in case Majority goes with it, it will be a good experience for every one.Nishant Kumar

Saar...Amirthi round trip is about 300-350, it will not be 200 one way. Amirthi is close to Vellore & Vellore is about 140 Kms from Chennai.Originally posted by thegame0012 View Postamriti Forest as it will be a good Practice ride with close to 200 kms one way
I'm on 24X7 support this weekend (hopefully it doesn't gets postponed); I'll join the Kutralam ride. And Sri, no confusion, I checked the dates on which I applied leave, its Mar 15 & 16

Next Pre-Ride
Next pre-ride - March 4, 2012
Destination - TBD.
I'm ok with any destination as long as it helps to experience both NH and state highways.RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

Two years back when i visited Poondi dam I could not visit the gardens and lower dam area since written permission for the same is required from Chennai ..Please get it clarified before visit since you will be able to only ride on the roads near and above the dam area, without permission.
If planning to visit Tenkasi area, then try to visit Achhan Koil(Temple )in the Kerala border, from Tenkasi...the roads are through mild Ghat section, with forest on both sides, and if there is minimal rain will have mountain stream flowing gently on the roads,...and if you are lucky can meet some Elephants on the road...
