lol, Actually i have been reduced to 70kgs from 73. It shows 160 on my speedo with full throttle. But few, version 1 ninjette owners claimed that it shows 180 on their console.

      • My first Xbhp ride !

I had very little sleep from the night before. But very determined to make it anyway. Just some three hours sleep or something and it was already 5.30. Since i prepared everything the night before, took no time and kicked off from home. Plugged in the music for the decent mile munching ahead. Reached the toll, to find no one there. And like others i found the bunch out on the other side of the toll. It was a decent turn-out and i was happy i made it. My first group ride.

The ride started and like always i took my own time to prep up and was the last person before the sweep. And Dinesh i guess was trying his level best to keep up with his hugely deformed front tire on his bullet. A little while later, i was a bit impatient with the average speed that the group was doing and cautiously moved up the order one by one, and started tailing the lead. Now since Sri and Nish were the lead, i thought of following them and not piss them off by overtaking them.

Enjoying the twisting ECR is always fun. Be it four or two wheeler. ECR is unbeatable. And the weather is pleasant, you just wanna go on and on and on...!

Reaching pondy, i was starving and so was others. Surguru as always is the best place to pacify a hungry grumbling tummy. The best part of Pondy trip was not the stares of the people in the beach. It was when a bunch of people walking a rally against software piracy, stopped everything and started staring at us. And the photographers of the rally, started snapping us..!

And Sri started this discussion about the upcoming trip to kuttrallam. And since i wasn't joining for reasons other than holidays, like others had, i started looking at the N650r's.

Now since i haven't seen the N650r in real flesh so far, I was a bit taken aback by the size of the thing. If one had seen the GT650r, everyone would agree that the GT has more road presence. But the built and finish was indeed brilliant. A perfect sensible machine for a tourer.

And now everyone, especially the 250s/650s and bullets, headed to the fuel station for a refill. After the refill, the pack started moving, and i was waiting for our own sweep Dinesh to start his motor. Unfortunately, i later came to know that he was waiting for Dileep. And by the time i kicked my motor to life and follow the bunch, i lost track..!

Returned back to Dinesh and came to know it can be some while before he starts and having to keep up my commitment to be in chennai by 1pm, i thought of gunning down the ECR alone. And away i went. Informed Dinesh and left. And i guess Sri was a bit crossed with my idea of ride off. Sorry for that. As much as i wanted to complete the circuit with the group, i had to be home too.

The return ride was swift and reached around 1pm..!

My takers from the ride ! Two things !

        1. Need a bigger bike. Numbers thrown out by R15 seems more than adequate only in the city. On the highway, its just not enough.

        2. Try and not to have any commitments on the day of ride.

Thanks for the wonderful company. Ride safe. !

                        Let me clarify few things...

Remember...speed is subjective & safety is perspective. If I cruise 90 Kmph on my CBR I'm sure to fall asleep & meet disaster sooner than I can think & if I ride less than 60 on my Rx, the same thing is bound to happen. That's my limit on my vehicles which is ofcourse personal with anyone's.

Having said that, everyone has their own limits on staying control with speeds. Disasters occur only when they cross their limits & none of us are safer than all of us put together. I've witnessed even Govt buses, arrogant cabbies stopping & yielding way for biker groups. Sounds strange, but that's the power of riding in group. Your risks are highly minimized when you're in group than on solo.

Talking about speeds, like I said before, its all in knowing one's own limit & riding it. We'd a respectable Gentleman aged more than 55 riding a N650R; though he'd 72 ponies, he still was keeping at what CBR's cruise. Later he was explaining as what prompted him to keep at that speeds. He precisely knew his limit to that degree that amazed me. That was a learning for me.

If you're talking about violating law, someone could also say Gee...riding a R15 at 90-115...way above the speeding limits (FYI 80 Kmph most of the highways) too . Even 1 Kmph above the speed limit is violating law. So it doesn't matter 90 or 190, what matters more is, is one's riding within his/her limit, knows where to slow down, where to stay cautious, where to remain vigilant. That cannot be taught by any books or forums, that can be learnt only through...EXPERIENCE.

Remember...riding fast always isn't unsafe & riding slow isn't always safe

PS - Had you been there y'day or read the posts, you'd be knowing that the 150-220 cc bikes reached Pondi much sooner than the Ninja's & CBR's

Seniors those who owns CBR and Ninja's forms a group and Zips first and Other 150-220 cc bikes forms a other group and they have to chase you ....

members who have higher Capacity bikes do make a group and go separetly but you got it all wrong when you think other members with low powered bike chase them - may be its time you come for a ride and see exactly what we do

If you all Seniors Rip means , this would Tempt the newbies to Cruise their Bikes at higher speeds . According to my point of view it would be even better if you guys Ride along with the Newbies .. Riding at the speeds of 90 - 120 km/hr will be great pleasure ... It will be better if you ride along with the Newbies instead of You guys Ripping fast and then taking a break ..

No one is tempted with Speed here - its not right to hold the members who have higher capcity bike with slow group. You may not want to tag along with a person coming in Skooty pep at 50's - do you ?

I thought xBhp Break fast ride means All Xbhpians will ride around 90 - 120 km/hr speed on the Highways .....

Its not about riding at any speed dude - its about learning the riding ethics and group riding skills. Any joker can ride a bike with that speed if he got a decent bike.

If i may have joined this ride means , i guess i would be the last person to reach pondi .. As i won't Exceed 120 km/hr speed on my R15 .. According to me Safety First for my bike and for myself ...

FYI, we were doing 80's and 90's on our bike while riding as group - and my R15 can do much better then 120 - mind it !!!

                            It really sounds sad .

Note - This is my point of view... I used to tell frankly ... I have repeated some points ...

This is precisely what thegame0012's said in his post. Personally, I don't like to ride with a Scooty pep even if its ridden by my Daughter, Wife or even my Mother. I'd simply pick them up as pillion or drive them around, forget alone riding a CBR.

Precisely my point too; can someone could guarantee that there will be no incidents when ridden within 90-120 or even 40-50? No can, right? There're incidents of people getting killed on a pulled over vehicle too isn't it? So do people avoid going out? Probably minimize the risk, but then, upto what extent? Even no one can warrant that.

Personally (this is purely personal), I tend to loose concentration when I ride too slow. When I ride, I forget everything else in the world & my brain focuses only on riding & my body works accordingly. This means, my mind takes control over the next series of action (call it reflex if you want) at the moment; this is what I tend to call staying in control. At times this sync between the mind & body goes for a toss, which means, mind thinks faster than body could react or body reacts faster than mind could think. When such async happens, I pull over for a minute or so, focus back & then resume the riding. This is what I learned about me over the years.

90-120 probably could be your limit, but, for some it could be above 120 & for some it could be less than that or even more. Also remember, even a souped Rx is not R15 as the engineering differs & as engineering differs, they offer better speeds, handling & staying in control.
