Kuttralam Ride

Thanks guys for participating in pre-rides organized for the up coming trip.
So far the riders confirmed either through xbhp or in person, have list below. If I've missed out any names just remind me.

The schedule is to start on 15/3/2012 morning and return either on 18th or 19th morning(depends on comfort level).
There will be 3 days stay in all. 15th night will be at Thenkasi. Next two days wanderers will decide then.

@Karthikeyan - Tiruppur:- Shall meet at Thirumangalam on the way to Thenkasi. Will keep in touch.

Done !!. Me and Vijay will meet you guys at Thirumangalam and we will coordinate in person.

Thanks for your info. Its better to have the data in-hand even if you may join at the neck of the moment. Becomes easier to have the first hand info of anyone who may be in the ride (or use it during the ride)

Oops! Over looked. I filled out the form submitted at home. At office google docs won't work, so missed out the header.

Being with the forum helped to put some learning inside my head and with help of our 'gang leader' bettered. Talking with service technician in their world of understanding helped in building rapport and there is some reciprocation on the job as well, if not all.

I would suggest we take printouts, as it has vital info like emergency contact, and I think 'blood group' would be an equally important information to be collected before starting the ride. Just my thought.

Tentative Itinerary's for Kuttralam Ride

I tried my best for the permits at Kodayar - But they are hesitant to allow a 10 member gang at the power house (Tried through some contacts in TNEB)

Also, I Did not receive any response from the Contact Numbers on Manimuthar Forest Reserve. We will take a Call in Tenkasi on permits (Will try again till next week)

I propose the following Itinerary's for the ride:

Option 1

Day 1: Chennai - Kuttralam : 625 Kms

Day 2: Kutralam Falls - Shengottai - Thenmala (Dam) - Ponmudi (Hill Station) - Trivandrum - Kovalam : 160 Kms

Day 3: Kovalam - Kanyakumari :80 Kilometers

Day 4: Kanyakumari - Thirunelveli - Madurai - Trichy (Stay in Trichy & Start to Chennai early Morning) or Push off till Chennai the same day (Depends on Riders Commitment) : 700 Kms

Route Map:

Chennai, Tamil Nadu to Chennai, Tamil Nadu - Google Maps

Option 2

Day 1: Chennai - Kuttralam : 625 Kms

Day 2: Kuttralam Falls - Papanasam - Try Visiting Manimutharu (Will ask for permission directly at Check post) - Kalakkad - Kanyakumari : 140 Kms

*If we spend more time in Papanasam / Dam - we will stay in Kalakkad or Can Push of to Kanyakumari which is 50 Kilometers away*

Day 3: In & Around Kanyakumari

Day 4: Kanyakumari - Madurai - Chennai : 700 Kms

(Stay in Trichy & Start to Chennai early Morning) or Push off till Chennai the same day (Depends on Riders Commitment) : 700 Kms

Route Map: Chennai, Tamil Nadu to Chennai, Tamil Nadu - Google Maps

Option II is more Relaxed, Option I is about 100 Kms More.

It all boils down to what the group wants to visit or the nature of events on the road. Just my suggestion.


Option 3

The last suggestion i gave to Sriram is: //Just a Suggestion - Not necessarily for the ride//

Chennai - Tenkasi - Kuttralam - Thenmala - Kollam - Alappuzha - Thekkady - Dindigul - Chennai (1550 Kms)

@Ananth - Thanks for coming up with the route and Itenary suggestions but i would say
1. Option 2 - is good and much more relaxed - you get to see most places local.
2. Option 3 - will a good round trip - but how to split that up is a question?

My 2 cents (if the damn people give back my CBR on time)...
EDIT - Will go with Option 1, but prefer Veli/Shangumugham beach instead of Kovalam; and add Vattakottai from Kanyakumari
Day 4 - return to Chennai by evening.

Why I don't prefer Option 2 is, there's nothing in Kanyakumari + it stinks during Sunrise.

Another suggestion - If we're able to make to Kanyakumari on day 2 (probably for Sunset/Sunrise), we can get to Trivandrum, visit Shangumugham beach (instead of Kovalam) & spend the evening at scenic Veli village and spend sometime with TVM XBhpians.

Kuttralam Ride Pointers:-

I've charted some points for the benefit of newbies and others to ensure if the below has been taken looked into.

For the Machine
1. Kindly get your vehicle checked/Serviced.
2. Check the oil age and change if needed.
3. Spare cables - clutch accelorator is advised.
4. Check Chain sprocket and tyres
5. Compact tool kit is must.
6. Spare headlamp and spark plug
7. Puncture kit (anyone) / spare Tube
8. Copy of vehicle papers - RC, Insurance, License

For You to carry
1. Take appropriate clothes and see to that you are not overloaded.
2. Slippers
3. Towel (incase we are not provided during our stay)
4. Sox (extra pair avoid fellow biker fainting during our trip)
5. Small torch if possible
6. Waste cloth/tissue/paper towel
7. First Aid kit.(anyone)
8. Pen and paper (anyone)
9. Extra bungee cords/ropes
10. Water bottle
11. Chocolates/candy/chewing gum
12. Spare key
13. Cameras and battery packs
14. Cash for fuel- in case of plastics not accepted at gas stations.
15. Cool attitude.

Newbies:- Armored jacket, gloves, knee guards and shoes is must. (Talk to Seniors in case of
any help or suggestions needed.)
