You can do this route also:
Bangalore -> Mysore -> Nanjungud->ChamrajNagar->Sathy->Coimbatore

The road from Nanjungud to ChamrajNagar is quite good. However, the road from here to TN border sucks but that's like 20 km or so. If you can stomach this, the roads then after are very good.

There is another route, which might be weird:
Bangalore->Mysore->Bandipur->Ooty->Coonoor->Coimbatore

The traffic between coonoor to coimbatore is very high in early morning so plan the times accordingly.

@ Trigger: Having just made two trips in about 5 days to Coimbatore and back, I would suggest you take this route up to CBE:

BLR - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Thoppur - (right off the highway to) Mettur - Andhiyur - Athani - Sathyamangalam - Coimbatore.

Importantly, you do not need to get back to the NH7 route till Coimbatore which is a nightmare from Salem to Chitode / Erode.

The route is about 35 kms shorter than all the way on NH7 ....
A lot of the stretches are done up recently. Roads are in good shape to maintain a 100 kmph almost throughout. I did Sathy to Bangalore in less than 4 hours by this route, not counting breaks.
And the stretch from Mettur right up to Coimbatore is pretty scenic.......
