Angry Classic 350 unusual sound

I have a classic 350 black with 1000km run. Recently I came across an unusual sound from the rear part. When I put my bike in 3rd gear and keep throttling above 40km/hr an unusual sound(its like a bajaj auto sound(culu culu)) is coming. When I put 4th gear the sound gradually drecreases and in 5th gear @ 60km/hr the horrible sound vanishes.

I tried to figure it out by putting my bike in main stand and throttled the bike in 3rd gear. But no unusual sound came. I guess when the bike is in load I mean with pilion the sound is more prominent.

Plz help me out with this guys. What it may be, from where it is coming???

no Idea.. get it checked from an RE authorized mechanic. Try to pin point where its coming from. Ask someone else to hear it when you are riding.

A strange thing happened yesterday. My bike which is just 1 and a half month old..the clutch cable just snapped while riding.. Had to replace it.

Yes I saw this helmet at ProBikers helmet shop in Pune. It was green in color with the Chinese Red star. Honestly I didn't go for it as it looked too Chinese. :P
You could try calling them and ask if they would ship it to you at Bangalore.
Also if you are open to suggestions I would suggest a better helmet for your Classic 500. Its the one I got and its an amazing helmet. Its from RJAYS. Model TSS TOMCAT Black half face helmet with dual visors. It also comes in Matt Black. Its a great helmet. Its sturdy, is very lightweight (arnd 1200 gms), Has a clear visor and also a tinted sun-visor inside.

Default Royal Enfield Classic 500

I was 9 years old when I 1st rode a ‘Sunny’, that tiny red scooty which when accelerated above 40 gives you a feel like you are riding a vibrator! But it was a good experience nonetheless.
I was 11 years old when I first rode my cousin’s Yamaha RX-100 and popped a wheelie when I left the clutch in a jiffy, in front of my mom! Luckily, I ended up controlling the weight some how and did not fall.
I was 16 when I started asking my parents to get me a 2-wheeler, I was as tall as my dad by then, my parents did not agree and my dad said the most heard dialogue, “jab license aayega tab tu bike chalana”. Then began the painful the wait of becoming 18!
I turned 18, got my license, asked for a bike and then they started with the stories of bike accidents and the common line people use against bikes, “Even if you are a safe rider, if someone else crashes into you, you can get injured ”. I did everything to convince them to buy me a bike but every time it was a straight "NO!"
I went to Pune when I was 19, for my 1st job. I was away for training for a month. I had a relative's 8-year-old Hero Honda Ambition 135 to ride there, as I had to travel for 60kms everyday and its known that Pune doesn’t have the best public transport system!
That’s the time when I met my cousin; he had a Honda Stunner 125cc. I asked him if I could take it for a spin and the feeling I got riding this ‘sporty looking’ bike was awesome. My 1st question to him was, “Kitna deti hai?” On hearing 55kmpl mileage, I was shocked, but determined that this would be my 1st bike!
I came home after work one day and I saw a Royal Enfield Thunderbird parked near the stunner. I found out that this other cousin of mine (I have a lot of cousins) got his friend’s Thunderbird for a couple of weeks. I went down after dinner, just staring at the huge bike, (never been a huge fan of ‘The loud bikes’) I was intrigued but dint have the courage to ride it. The next day when I came back from work, I saw my cousin revving it as he was going out, and OH-MY-GOD, it was LOUD! I just kept staring at him and my bike was still on, on reserve fuel! He saw the look on my face and asked me if I would like to ride it, it didn’t take me even a second to say yes and the next second I was on the BULL!
It felt heavy in the start but I was riding with all my attention, and avoiding all the possibilities of going over a bump and loosing control. I rode for about 2-3 kms and that was it, I was convinced that Enfields were the best Indian bikes!
I came back to Mumbai, told my parents about the Stunner, the mileage, the savings and that could be invested in my hobby (photography) and they somehow agreed to buy me the Stunner!
9th September 2010, I got the delivery of my Honda CBF Stunner and it was one of the happiest days of my life! I Did the proper running in, shifting the gears in the specified rpm limit and getting a brilliant mileage. Then came the time when my riding skills became better and I started riding fast! I rode the bike on the highway at the speed of 80 kmph and I felt a whole new thrill, speed gave riding a whole new meaning.
Unfortunately, this was the exact problem with the Stunner, it wasn't able to go to high speeds. The bike would jerk above 50 kmph and when I would take it to 80 and above, the engine would cry, screaming, “Please don’t rape me!”
One fine day, I was coming back home from college and I saw the Royal Enfield showroom, which had been there since long, but I noticed it properly and saw a blue single seater bike standing outside and shining! I went to the website just to drool on my laptop and find out that the bike I was looking for was the Classic 500! There was another 350cc variant which looked affordable in the near future
The next day I was in the showroom talking to one of the sales guy, who broke the news to me that the waiting was 8-10 months for Classic 350 and 4-6 months for the Classic 500! I was pretty sad after getting this news, not that I had the money to buy the bike at that point. But even producing the money magically would not give me the bike. Btw I had also enquired about paying ON for the bike, but the guy refused with a smile on his face.
A week later I just went to the showroom for a test ride, the Classic wasn't available at the time but rode the Electra. I was told that the Electra and the Classic 350 have the same engine! I rode the bike and WOW, what power! A 125cc makes all other bikes seem so powerful! I paid rs1000 for the booking of the bike and thought that if I get the money, I’ll buy this bike, in any case I'd have to wait for 8-10 months! So I could still decide about getting it. I booked the Classic 350 Black on 18th June 2011.
I came home and started doing research and went through the dilemma that every Classic owner must have had, 350 or 500? I asked many people, searched many forums, and concluded that some extra displacement in your bike for 1/3rd extra cost isn’t that bad! If I ever want to do trips (at that point in time I hadn’t even thought of doing trips) the 500 would have an advantage because of the high torque!
I went to the showroom again on 18th July 2011 and paid rs1000 and booked the Classic 500 Black, which would be delivered before the 350, but the waiting had gone up to 6-8 months, only reason, Katrina Kaif rode that bike in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara!
This marked the start of the painful period, noticing all the bullets on the road, envying the ones who are already riding the Classic, seeing whether it’s a 350 or a 500, asking them how much they waited for theirs! So many times, I chased the bikers in traffic asked and them questions while riding
I went to the showroom about 6 times during my waiting period and rode the Classic, and only twice I was lucky enough to ride the 500 and ***k, it was powerful! My wait became more excruciating! The sales guy, on seeing my desperation said, he’ll give the benefit to me if he gets a chance, but he did not get a chance. I got a call on 4th January 2012 that I could come and pay for the bike, I was ecstatic! I was supposed to get delivery on the 18th, that’s what I was told on 11th January when I paid up, also, there was a clause that I would have to pay some extra money as the bike rates for 2012 had increased. I agreed and told him to give the bike as soon as possible. As my college is very close to the showroom, I would stop by the showroom relentlessly, checking out the bike, admiring it, craving it, longing for it. Then, I got a call on the 17th about the increase in the rate. When I booked the bike in July, the rates were 1.54L, when I paid up on the 11th of January(the 2011 rates) were 1.56L and now the bike rates had gone up by 5.5k! I went and paid up so the final cost of the bike was 1.62L!
The delivery dates went from 18th to the 22nd then to the 26th, from there to the 29th and from the 29th to the 3rd of Feb. From 3rd of Feb it went back by two days(Only because I kept going to the showroom, checking the status) 1st of February was the day when I FINALLY got my Classic 500, it was a Beast. I cant express in words how happy I was(and still am!) when I got the delivery of the bike! Talking about it makes me teary-eyed.
I'll leave you with a very different picture of the bike from what I have seen everywhere, will do the detailed one week review about the giant Classic soon!

Default Hello there...

Hello friends, I'm new to this board and a first-time bullet-eer. I have a Green CL 500 with an upswept exhaust which I bought in April 2010. I've driven it for about 4,000 km and am extremely happy with the bike.

I still remember the first 3 eventful days with my new bike. It was my first time with a bullet (I hadn't even taken a test ride before booking) and was really shocked at the vibrations that the bike threw at me when I rode it for the first time from the dealer's to my place. The next day after taking delivery of the bike my wife and I left for Diveagar (a nice beach about 150 km from Pune) and then the troubles started. To cut a long story short the rectifier of the new bike was not working so the battery wasn't charging. I was stuck with my wife on a lonely place with the bike refusing to start. The experiences that followed included buying a new battery, recharging the old one, the new battery dying as well cause I didn't know that it wasn't charging and finally a rickshaw ride to the beach.

After that first ride I knew that a bullet is a different bike and you need to take care of it as you would take care of a cranky girlfriend. To top it all, the parts are not reliable and the service engineers are not well trained but riding your bull at 80 kmph on an open highway makes you lose all your worries and connects you with God.

I wish all bulleteers a safe ride. Keep thumping!

1. Is maintenance too much for RE bikes (350 classic)?
2. I have heard from people that bike is not reliable how true is that?

3. Is the bike dependable?

All RE owners please let me know the answers to these questions as i have booked a RE 350 classic and now thinking whether to go ahead or to cancel..... Thanks in advance your responses will be helpfull
