Had purchased C500 back in 2011. Read somewhere that the RE guys are remapping the ecu for the old c500. It that true. Anyone?

Yes they are. Contact your nearest RE service center and log a request for ECU mapping. When the official will come there you will get a call.

        Hi,

Gyan : My bike has always been running a bit rich. So i tried changing the spark plugs first. You cant feel much of a difference usually. Then i got the filter which is a E 0900 i think, ( do check out RO 5010 my friend uses that, Id have got that if it was available then) that's a straight fit in your sir filter box. Before i did this i was getting around 28Km/L now that's settled to around 25Km/L . with the K&N i feel it revs much freely. I don't think iridium spark plugs by themselves matter. Is your bike running rich? ( Clean your spark plugs, go for a 10 min ride, do all speeds , check spark plugs. If its got black deposits then yes) Try the filter if the sparks turn out looking cleaner then voila.

I got my ECU remapped from RE about a year ago, honestly it does'nt feel any different.

The exhaust does'nt sound shrill, nor does it sound like a CI bullet, its got a diff note and revs free. I kinda like that . . The one Im using is from classic, costs around 1.2K, its a straight fit but you might need to drill a hole in the clamp.

        Cheers!

Thank you for the detailed reply friend. Have got some more queries and doubts to be answered.

          1. Is K&N RO 5010 also fits in the air filter box? And why do you think you would have taken this instead of E 0900 if you could have got this? What is better in RO 5010.

          2. What performance gain did you observe/see after using K&N? Has it increased the power or top speed or low end torque etc?

          3. Does adding the K&N has also affected the thump? I mean, I have seen people using K&N and their bike makes that big gushing sound so did it make any difference to the thump?

          Cheers

            Gyan :

            1. The e0900 i have is a bit bigger than the stock air filter, so you can't use the black plastic box. I'm using the same air filter cover plate. So when its tightened it digs into that bolt at the bottom (i do have a little OCD) , but other than that no issues. The 5010 is somewhat the same size as the stock one, and can be fitted inside the black plastic box .

            2. There is no way to say for sure unless i can get it tested on a dyno, as far as i know there are no such facilities anywhere in kerala. Id like to get it tested someday. It just feels a little smoother overall, the throttle response is a little crisp i feel.

            3. My bike sounds pretty much the same w/wo the filter, but you can hear a tiny whoosh from the air filter.

Yesterday my clutch cable snapped, got it changed along with my throttle cable. The throttle cable was pretty creaky too. Now things seem sorted.

            Cheers!!

                Hi Folks,

Hope you guys r ridin hard and taking care of you classics well..

Today i faced a serious problem with my Classic 500.. I was heading to my office today morning and suddenly I sensed Fuel leak. As i stopped my bike on side off the road and tried to find the cause, I saw fuel leaking from Fuel injector Hose as well as from the Fuel tank. I took out all the petrol (around 7 lit ) and completely emptied my tank. Hired TATA ace and straight away took it to Royal enfield service station.

As expected the FI Hose was snapped badly and needed replacement. Now the Leak from the Petrol tank came as shock to me as they asked me to replace the old tank with a new one.. The point of leak is at weld Joint which connects to a Nut(under the seat).
Service Center gave me a Quote for fuel tank which is 10K.. Some how i felt it is over priced and they were takin a toll my my situation..

Need your valuable feedback on this also best possible options..My bike has just completed 2 and half years and 18K KM on odo.

                Thanks.

Damn man, that sure strikes terror in my heart. My bike's in storage now, hope there won't be many problems when I come back.. I guess If the tank needs to be changed, it will cost a bomb. The cost also depends on what finish is required. I.e Chrome'll be the costliest, then comes the matt desert Storm and then the normal paint finish ones. You may go to other RE service centres n just check on price. Let us know what happens.
PS: other people here will surely have more helpful input. Don't worry buddy, keep thumping!

                    Hi Bornfree,

A friend of mine also had a similar leak from a cracked hose at around 30000 kms. My hose is kinda cracked too, will change it before the next trip. I know a guy who got his tank changed for about 7k. Im not sure whether he got it brand new. Do ask around before you decide.

Do let us know once you sort this out and how much it cost and yeah, what's the whole point of having a classic 500 if you don't ride it hard .. Keep going bro, nothing brings a grin to my face like ripping around town on my bike <3 ..

                    Tc and keep us posted.

                    Cheers!

Abhi and sidewinder.. thanks for replyin mates..

I have given my bike to RE SC already and will be collecting it back tomorrow evening. The supervisor at SC has convinced me that they will try to fix the issue before replacing the Tank.

Btw Just to let you guys know i also checked Tank's availablity at JC road(Blr) and surprisingly I couldnt find genuine RE brand Fuel Tank. Though there were few Custom Fuel tanks avalable in absolute raw form and priced around 2500/-. One can get it painted from some outside Paint shop.

I will keep you guys posted.

                      Cheers.

                      • Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500

                        Hello fellow Bull riders..
I am planning to book my DS500 in new year, after the Auto Expo.
But have some queries related to Bull which I think can be clarified by the owners..

                        1. has anyone of you changed the analogue speedometer with the digital one are their any good digital speedometers available?
(I know many of you will bash me up on this question as it will end the classic looks of cockpit, but it's just a query)

                        2. I have heard many people say that the exhaust should be changed only after the run in period completes,
Is it true? if it is should I change the exhaust on delivery day itself.
Will it do any damage? OR should I stick with the upswept exhaust itself till the run in completes..

                        3. In other bikes during the run in period we have to restrict the engine under a given RPM & theirs a RPM meter to keep a check on it, but here on a Classic model there's no Rpm meter so how do we keep a check on Rpm, OR we have to shift gears based on thump intensity.!!!

                        4. Is there a way to fix a Rpm meter replacing the low fuel indicator.
Is their a way of fixing a combined meter which shows fuel level & speed

                        5. Is it advisable to change the engine oil before the first service.
As this will be my first RE product so I am little worried about this thing, my friend's TB gave some engine issues within the first year itself reason being that he didn't change the engine oil at correct intervals.

                        Hoping for some help guys
                        Thanks in advance

                            Hi Guys,

Finaly i got my bike after long insufferable delay. Total repair cost was 1000 which included 700/- for brazing(welding) the affected area and 300 for paint job.
Though repair work looks pretty neat from the outset, but i had doubts in my mind because the last thing I wud ve wanted is to be stranded in the middle of the road with a leaky tank.
So i went ahead with my order of a new tank anyway and once I receive the order i m gonna replace the tank.
I just hope this problem doesn't surface till then.

The feeling to ride your C500 after 6 days gap was inexplicable.

                            Happy ridin..
