  • Royal Enfield Classic 500 malfunction

Hi Guys after a year of ownership of my classic 500 a problem has arrived yesterday. The MIL light malfunction light blinks one time after I crank the engine. All my lights tail lamp indicator horn are working loud and properly. No fuse is soiled or short. Then what is a problem? Also when I press the ES button the starter issuant smooth, doesn't make any veard noise but not like before. The bike starts but worried about the MIL light that blinks 1 time and I crank the engine and goes. Please suggest soon. Going to Service center today itself but I don't want to be blank in front of the SC guy as they are always ready to fool us and empty our pockets. Please guys suggest me soon. Take care Ride safely

Try and get a feel of them both. And considering its not that expensive you can change it if you have second thoughts.. Is that thanner mukkom bund by the way?

        Cheers!
Thanks a lot for viewpoint....i have fitted the Rd handle bar....the riding posture feels much better....it's been easier on the shoulder now...although the accelerator cable tends to jam a little when turning to the complete right...guess that's because of difference in length...

And yes that's Thaneermukam Bund in Allepey....ain't she a beauty?

This is how she looks now...;-)

Hi...I got the windshield from Pudupet, Chennai for Rs2K

First enquired at Royal Enfield Showroom and they quoted a price of Rs5.8K which was way over my budget...

          Hi everyone

I'm looking to buy a cruiser/commuter and first thing to strike my mind is RE. So I've been doing all sorts of RnD in internet :P . There are lot of negative reviews about quality of parts and bad service centers. But still I'm inclined to thundy somehow.

Now to the point. One of the issue I noticed while searching was weird Engine noise(I don't own a RE so don't know exactly how it sounds). I don't know if someone found exact reason behind it or rectified it (Let me know if there is a reason, will help me decide my purchase). I stumbled upon this video in youtube few days back. I know its of old interceptor but could this be the reason for engine noise in latest RE's too?

I'm new to biking so bear with some lame questions :P

@ Classic cruzer : If the MIL goes off once the engine is running you have nothing to worry about. If its blinking continuously then it could indicate a problem. If you look under you seat you can find a wire which isnt connected to anything, you'll find that it leads all the way back to your ECU. If you ground this wire your engine malfunction light will blink. The order in which it blinks is used to determine what exactly the issue is. I think you can find the different sequences in the manual. Do let us know what the geniuses at RE say ..

Also, check your battery terminals for any loose connection. I had faced a similar issue when the odo was 10k, but later found a loose battery connection.

                  Keep us updated..

                  Happy Thumping.

The wait was only 9 weeks from booking. The delivery process though leave a lot to be desired and has a long way to go.

The C500 though is a pleasure to ride and own. It certainly draws attention from passersby and other motorists. Even the petrol bunk personnel cast appreciative glances at the motorbike.

Tire pressure was oddly under inflated. No care taken by the delivery people to check before delivery. It was only 14 in the front and 17 in the rear.

Put in a full tank of petrol ( about 12.15 Ltrs). The showroom had put 2 litres during the delivery process.

Doing small rides right now with rides around the neighbour hood. Keeping the speed between 50-60 Kmph as recommended on this forum. Some of the gears have a lot of vibration but I am hoping that they smoothen out after the first service. On one of the morning rides I was flagged by a passing motorist that my utility box on the left is wide open. Luckily I didn't lose my toolkit and first aid sachet. Repeated attempts to close it on the side of the road was unsuccessful so had to ride it back home and had to use a plier to twist the locking mechanism before managing to lock it. Guess thats RE !.

                    Hey Revit,

Congrats on your DS. When did you actually book it? I have also booked mine from the same store and have been quoted 90 days I booked mine on the 8th March 14.

                      Hi Unstoppable,

What I did was I booked in both Adyar brand store and the OMR one. Both quoted 120 days but got the OMR allotment faster. Opted for delivery at the Brand Store in Adyar.

So I took a stroll down to my local RE distributors for some parts and came across the Classic with the updates..

Some of the changes I observed are
                            1) Newly designed speedometer and amp (CL350)
                            2) RE Monogram embossed pillion seat
                            3) Newly designed Keys
                            4) Newly designed RE Logo
                            5) New design on the Air filter cover and fuse box

Do you mean to say that though the OMR allotment was faster you still took delivery from the Adyar brand store? That to within nine week that's fast.
