I have completed all my free services and now was thinking can I use castrol 20W50 for my bike as one of my friend suggested so. I have also noticed that after a long ride above 100+ km nonstop the oil tends to become thin due to heat which increases the clattering sound from the engine gear shifts also seem a bit hard. But as the engine cools the sound goes off. My bike I'd in absolute great conditions great mileage pickup no problem yet. But I road my friends bike for a long distance his bike has very less clattering sound he uses castrol 20W50. I have also done oil change and service 1100 kms back. Still got many kms to change oil. What do you guys suggest should I shift to castrol 20W50? Or stick with motul 15W50. "And also after how many kms is tappet setting required to be done" And yes there's no other problem with my bike only I think is the oil tends thin if you have any advice please reply as I don't compromise with my bike. Waiting for your advice

Same reason as yours for selling the Cbr. Great bike let down by pathetic service n lack of adequate spares. Though I wanted the Cbr, I soon realized that I needed a Hero Impulse. I took it to Arunachal in april and my daily commuter now that it flies over potholes with stupendous ease....

Good luck with your new bull shopping.... Re con gt looks fascinating. If only it had a softer suspension, single piece handle bar, comfy ergos - I ll be in the market too....

You can try a 20w50 oil and see if that works for you , there is no harm in it . However I would advice to stick to the Motul 3000 15w50 RE approved oil - it's a great oil . Enfield engines get very very hot and this behaviour is normal for it .

DS on the other hand looks...sounds...smells and above all rides like a bullet.
OFF TOPIC. can the RPM be changes in DS to lean burn? i really would love to have a low revving bullet.
I want a CGT but i need a DS too....Heart is saying DS..but its also saying CGT..head is saying ur crazy and stick to Vespa.
CGT available off-the-shelf, 2 months for DS.
**PIC is not mine...respective owner have the copywrite.
Hi Barkha I too was in the same dilemna -TB,Cl,CGT or the STD. CGT had to be instantly ruled out as I needed a pillion seat plus the riding stance somehow didnt suit me in terms of comfort. Coming to the TB it fullfilled all my requirements comfortable seats, projectors,a big fuel tank etc.Brain said go for it but my heart says its not a Bullet, striked it out of the list.Next came the the standard-500,no doubt its a good bike, loved the smooth engine but missed the smooth and crisp throttle response of an FI bike.TD ed the DS500 instantly fell in love with it.The fun part is when my wife is not around I can remove the rear seat.Zeroed in on the DS as I somehow felt it stands apart.A classic is always a bullet even though the tb is loaded much more than the cl and std.
All the best for your bike purchase

I guess Royal Enfield will replace those age old chassis with newer one in next 2-3 years.

RE have already changed the chassis of the continental GT from engine as an stressed member to double tube cradle frame, and this chassis has been designed by Harris engineering.

                        Here is the story....
Can you see a CBR and a Veapa in the background? ..in the first PIC?...i didnt have parking..so had to sell the DS.as it was brand new the resell value was better than CBR, so let it go first.then went the CBR..in 5 figures.Vespa is staying for life..Vespa's Classic look rocks....thats why DS again..or a CGT or BOTH (i am mad)
Now i have a new House.with lots of parking....Car, bike, cat dog horse..you name it..it can be parked here......
If its a DS500 then good....or i have a hunch that 2014 end or 2015 we could be looking into a new cruiser based on the CGT frame with a 400cc motor.

                        Okkkk
Yeah they have a new frame but it will take a lot of time to develop a new 400cc engine. This 400cc engine was in news but RE didn't mentioned any time frame for its launch.

The new 400cc engine is the bored out version of 350cc engine, instead of going for boring of the current engine to maximum RE should come out with v-twin or parallal twin engine, although there is news that they are working on v-twin engine but when this engine will be ready that's the only question.

This re boring process depends on various other factors. I have a feeling they must be developing that 400 cc mill for smaller CGT as they have 350cc and 500cc variants for all of their bikes except CGT and they will use this new mill exclusively for CGT only like they are using 535 mill on the current version only whereas other RE's are still coming with 500cc engines.

Hi friends I am not an engineer but doesn't boring a lower capacity cylinder to a higher CC than actual decrease the life of machine. Why don't they just produce an engine with different geometry. As I noticed the cylinder size of 350-500-535 are the same. Only the bore size is bigger. Please correct me if I am wrong.

To an extent it does but then boring out an cylinder is cost effective for the company and for the customer also, not only the bore size, valves are also bigger to feed the engine, in an all new engine one has to redesign other connecting parts also and when a company can achieve the same thing by just boring process then why to take hassle of redesigning an entirely new block.
