Barkha, never use kick start when cold starting or star in the morning or start after long duration, use ES

Also which silencer you gonna put, share some details please

Exactly what i wanted to say. The noise was not there till first service. Do you get the sound when you ride also?? It not consistent for me. Sometimes it comes sometimes it doesn't.

@Barkha Looks like that one is long bottled punjab silencer. Is that free flow or has baffles?

gyan_recl350 ....its free flow.......i am a little apprehensive about it after purchasing....ill have it installed tomorrow ..and keep it for 1 day....if i get caught by cops for noise pollution......ill change to up swept exhaust instead.

Moreover a complete free flow exhaust ain't good for engine

Hello People,

I'm relatively new here, considering I got my Royal Enfield Classic 500(Chrome Black) last saturday (Oct 5th, 2013)

I've finished 360km on her, and she's smooth as butter. But well, I've got my share of glitches too, few adjustments to clutch and Kick-start-lever to be done, and Tappets are making noise while riding, my friend suggested I need to get it fixed in showroom. My first service is due on 500km which I'd have finished by this friday, hope all these are fixed
I'll come back with updates as I ride on.

Also, any updates, help/tips from you guys would be great! Looking forward to hear from you all

Hi friend first of all million congrats and welcome to the family . Regarding tappet noise you can read through other RE threads but still let me tell you, thats quite normal and it would be generally more at cold starts and for less RPMs. Absolutely nothing to worry and tappet noise would be there even after your bull would complete 10k, 15k and even more. This are hydraulic tappets, and they get adjusted by oil pressure. One more thing they cannot be adjusted manually

Thanks a ton brother! And thanks for the update on Tappet functioning, I was really worried if they get worn out and give away mid ride,..
And yes, Cold (Kick) start is a pain, but I'm slowing getting it, took 20min today as opposed to 30min that was from past 3 days!

Welcome buddy but let me tell you the hydraulic tappets are far more reliable and consistent than mechanical tappets that was used in CI bullets.

Now I see you have fallen into one more misconception or may be victim of wrong information. "Always use electric start when cold starting the bullet and never use kick start in cold starts"

Hey bro, as gyan_recl350 mentioned above, its advisable not to kick start the 500 in cold conditions. Its always advisable to use the self start. Keep the kick start for emergency situations, that's it.

But, but, Electric doesn't seem to start the bike from cold, and doesn't it drain away the battery if we do that? from many people what I heard was "Hold down the Choke, and kick start it without throttle and it will start in one kick." Well, Today it did start in one kick.
But I'm really confused now, electric or kick in the mornings? and how is electric starter for a cold start right? I've so many questions.. If anyone has a detailed explanation please provide, I want to know as much as possible about all this. Or maybe links, threads, video, text anything is fine
seahorses, Thanks bro! Again, any material/tips & tricks are welcome as I'm freshly getting into the biker mode now, I want to know all about my machine apart from theoretical, textbook definitions! (done 4 years of Automotive Engineering and that's too much of theory for a man to handle )

I say again always ES when cold starting. Now cold starting does not mean when the climate is cold, it simply means when the engine is cold, which in turn means starting the bike after a long period, like it was parked for long time. ES would make sure that the life of the sprag clutch is long. Well there few other things, rather than mentioning alk that here let me redirect you. Read Randhawas review and advice about Cl500 on team-bhp and off-course Google baba is always available at service. Let me repeat again "always ES when cold starting" and as I had already said to one more friend, please beware of hype and hooplas.
