    2. misfiring when decelerating.

are these serious enough to ask for change of bike or can i go ahead with it. quick reply will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Golden color on the bend pipe of a brand new bike?
I have seen this color on the used bike but never on the brand new bikes. Same for the miss-firing. I would suggest to get this issues sorted out before delivery.
Also check for the rust in the petrol tank.

    • Royal Enfield Classic 500 maintenance and Exhaust change.

Hi Friends, I am Kaustubh Rane from Pune own a Royal Enfield C5. Completed around 1500+ km on it till now. The bike is great and I am loving it its a dream come true. I learnt riding a bike on my Uncles Diesel Bullet and also my friends old model bullets. But as I am new to the EFI bike and the new model wanted some useful tips, my bike is new and have done no modifications in it, not even interested as I like the way it is, it's beautiful. but most of my friends are suggesting me to change my stock exhaust to the smaller exhaust for better stroke, I am happy with the current exhaust, but it is a bit problematic during off road and bumpy rides the exhaust touched the ground once and having my Wife on the back seat she got furious on me thinking I have damaged the exhaust. Thankfully nothing happened. I it OK if I change to the up-swept exhaust when I know i am going on a bumpy ride or if I wish to keep it. Will there be any adverse effect on the performance and life of the bike,. I am a bit confused, please help out.

Secondly also wanted to know which Engine oil is best for the Classic 500 efi herd the most change to fully synthetic for better performance. If so which oil and which Grade oil is best for the bike? Currently using the 15W50 motul as suggested by the dealer.

This is the only issue with the OEM exhaust hence I have cut the end part of this exhaust (roughly 9 inches). using Upswept exhaust is not bad however I think their are 3 issues i have faced. firstly it reduces the top speed by around 5 KMPH secondly removing the rear wheel in case of puncture is pain and adding saddle bags is bit difficult.

I have the spare up-swept exhaust and if you want you can try it out. (I am staying in baner/Pune only).

        • Re: RE classic chrome ride quality gone down

          Hi Barkha,

Did you check your rims? Put the bike on the middle stand and check the rim for any wobbles. A friend of mine screwed his up riding hard over a rough patch of road. Try getting your disc cleaned. For the rust. . What i do is, every time i ride back from the rain i hose it down and pat dry the painted areas. The rust prone areas like the silencer crash guard and bolts i wipe with a solution of kerosene and coconut oil (50/50). I leave it on for the night. And wipe it off before riding again next day, try and not get any left over on the engine or the bent pipe. If any bolts are really rusted try changing them with stainless steel ones. They are much better.

          Cheers!

          Hi Kaustubh,

Its best to stick with 15W 50, try not to use heavier oils as they exert more pressure on your oil seals. Ive used synthetic oil before, they make the gear shifts a tad smoother, i can say for sure , it may very well be what i felt. I stick to the semi synthetic 15w50 Motul now. Its good for about 5000 Kms. Its best to change oils at around 3000kms for a year of so. I still get metal filings from the magnet in the drain plug. .. Ive thrashed my bike off road, and the offorad silencer works well unless you try some serious offroading . Try and get ones with glasswool .. And ideally ones with rivets so that you can replace the glasswool when need be..

          Happy Thumping!!

There is hell lot of stuff round in here. You will need to dig in and find out.
Well are you going to use it extensively or just a daily commute? If later is the choice then stay away from C5. Coming to maintenance, it's again on your riding style, your care but again yes it's in higher category segment. Also RE products will leave you with pretty much big small niggles. You can't ignore them. Just a little weekly care will do good for you.
Also it's FI so you should be very discipline.
Not discouraging you, technically I am a RE fan and I own one. And it's a pride.
Do post some pics when you get one

The other might be becoz of the rich mixture when we accelerate, which becomes comparatively leaner on deceleration which makes the unnurnt fuel burn - giving a pop in the silencer. Since my plugs are always dark, I wanna try with a K&N. Also when I rev the bike with Airbox open(in non dusty area) the rev and sound is proper. Hence I feel that the mixture is already rich.

Another culprit as always might be the Spark plug not firing. In the north there are caes in which the mileage went up to 45 from 25, after changing the plugs
Brother what are exactly K&N? I am new so don't know much.

K&N is a type of air filter which is open. You do not stuff it inside the air filter box and it breathes(intake the air) freely. This type of air filter is usually used when you are up-jetting your carburetor.

Now kick starting a UCE Bullet is not as rocket science as kick starting CI Bullet.

Keep the switch turned off. The point where you feel resistance from the Kick give a full swing kick. When it feels like the piston is compressing the air in the cylinder continue to push down until the resistance suddenly starts to disappear. At this point you would feel less resistance.
Then turn the switch on and without touching the throttle, give a full kick, normally it should start in this kick itself.
                            Else
Again try to find when the compression stroke stops and give it another kick and then again kick without throttle. This is the usual process.

As an advice, use electric start when cold starting the engine

Congrats friend and now the most painful period starts. Now what you would do, I can easily guess. Watch all sort of RE videos on YouTube, read about RE in various forums and sites, download RE pictures, inquire about how thump can be increased, which silencer would be best, when can I change the silencer, read various ownership experiences etc
