Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Hi Barkha ,
Its the oval tool box on the right side . The issue is that the rubber bushes into which the knobs of the cover fit in are tight, and it pops out along with the cover everytime i pull it off. It takes a fair amount of strength . So i dont use it . I keep my documents et all in the air filter box on top of the black plastic box. I used some WD 40 on the bushes and it worked allright for a while. So yeah do let me know what your thoughts are. And guys do let me know how your toolboxes are .

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
I need your valuable advice on buying a Royal Enfield Bullet 500 [2013 carb]. I am newbie and very much loved the Bullet legacy and booked the new 500 carb without even taking a test ride.
But now I have test ridden it twice, but I am not finding anything in it to die for. Looks are good.
The problems I face:
1. Lot of vibrations at handlebar. The main deal breaker.
2. Lot of mechanical noise from engine. Would a different silencer do the trick?
3. I don't get a feeling that I am riding a bullet [compared to old]. Feels like engine components are loosely put together.
Experienced bikers please advice me on why to go for a new bullet other than the looks and legacy. I need to shell out upwards of 1.5 Lakhs for it. But I am not finding it worth. Would the upcoming Hyosung GV250 a better bet? Is the bullet designed for off road riding? Is it durable?
Is the Desert Storm 500 any good? In my opinion, Its the best looking of all.Last edited by biketourer; 06-10-2013, 12:36 AM.

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Thanks barkha for your advice.Originally posted by BarkhaHi biketourer
point 1 - if it aint vibrating..it aint a Bullet...
point 2 - if the engine doesn't make mechanical noise ..its not a bullet!!!
point 3 - if u dont get the feeling of riding a bullet...ur a right guy on a wrong bike!!!!!
U dont buy a bullet coz u need one..u buy a bullet for it has called for u....
i personally think you are looking at the wrong manufacturer for a bike..please look at KTM ,Honda or Hyosung or a Used HD.
As your name suggest you want a tourer...a 390 Duke or the CBR 250R will sufice you needs....no vibrations....butter smoort gears........
But IMHO Harleys, KTMs and all are for highway. I want to know whether RE bikes can withstand off road conditions [obviously no serious stuff]. I really want a tough and reliable bike within 2.5Lakhs which can withstand some adventure stuff. RE was a good option to start with since I have seen a lot of Bullets being Leh'd.
IMHO, the UCE Bullets have a lot of mechanical clatter from the engine side compared to the CI ones. But I can't opt for old CI versions because it needs lot of care.
May be I am aiming at the wrong manufacturer, but could you guys explain how good a new UCE 500 is? [Owners, no offence intended]. I really didn't find it appealing compared to old ones.

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Biketourer,
I've had my bike for two years now. I ride fast and hard. The whole "Old bullet feel" is about puttering at 30kmph in 4th gear which i never really found enthralling. If i ham fisted my old CI the way i did my C5, its would fall apart. Even the new bikes need TLC . With an off road silencer and decent tires you could ride over most terrain. The engine noise you mentioned are the new tappets, i don't mind the clatter as long as it runs fine. To sum it all up. Since you already are unhappy with the bike you have'nt bought, maybe you really should'nt. Enfields were never known for their build quality. Its a process, of making something with rough edges into an extension of you. So yeah. Dont buy it .
.
Cheers!

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Hi
Now having taken one of my friend's Classic Chrome for a 200 Km ride, I must say that I liked it very much. Now I know what Sidewinder and Barkha and all other Bullet aficionados are talking about. So I am zeroing in for a 500cc RE. So please help me in choosing between Classic 500 and Desert Storm. I heard that DS and Chrome has advancements/improvements compared to C5. But my doubt is , are these changes/modifications carried over to Classic 500 as well? If not, please advice on buying a DS 500.

My New Classic 500 maroon.
Hi guys this is my first ownership thread ever on any website.
Got my Classic 500 maroon on 13th May 2013 Akshaytritiya day. had been told by my Uncle to get the delivery in time for a good omen. Desperate to Se my bike for the first time and taking the delivery in time. I reached the show room sharp at 11 am as i had told the dealer, paper works discussions and on and on the delivery guy was going Paid cash to him.. Finally I said to him "dam with your legal procedures first I want to Se my Bike''.. And then the time came.. my heart thumping louder than the C5' s exhaust a guy from the RE workshop pushed the bike by hand and brought it in front of Me... Wow that was the most amazing moment of my life, it was A Dream Coming True.
Giving thanks To the delivery Guy Vijay and the manager Sandeep after few discussion drove the bike straight home from Pune- Manchar 65 km. The ride home was fantastic every body at each signal and stop turned ther heads and gazing my bike that experience was some thing I cant express and which I face even now.. I just feel like the King of the road..
Reached home parked the bike under my building.
Its a bit difficult to ride this bike every time for work as its a very short ride and reach at work before I shift the gear to 5th, so the bike is parked all day. Every evening go on a short ride at-least 20-30 km with my wife and daughter.
Its like Biking in the Blood my Daughter too loves the ride and enjoys the front seat....
Had my First service done at 560 kms. Got the Oil changed Paper element, Oil filter and some other adjustments done...
Wow now that's a complete transformation the pickup has improved the gear shifting is great and also the mileage has increased. Completed my 962 kms today and many more kms to go, loving my bike and enjoying the great riding experience.
Well then that's all I experienced in a very short time with my Beast Machine will be in touch and need many advises from the senior RE owners. Its great to be a part of the Legendary ownership Of the Royal Enfield Group Thanks a Lot to XBhp for making me a member.
