Thank you Barkha, that makes sense. Will need to check the plugs.Originally posted by Barkha

I feel my C5 is running rich as I can smell petrol during startup (choke not used), but will have to check the the plugs.Originally posted by prabhubravo View PostLast edited by phoenixflight; 05-29-2013, 11:54 AM.Phoenixflight.

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Hi there Barkha,Originally posted by BarkhaHi Mizbah.
How are you. i am realy sorry to hear what happened to your CL500.but you know its what owning a RE is all about..if u want a trouble free and maintenance bike then please look somewhere else....Japanese bikes i suppose..RE is more like a grumpy bull.....the less u take care of it the more aggressive it becomes,u got to tame the beast.
lest come to your bike now. when the first spark plug was changed did u see what state was the previous spark plug? what exactly was the problem with the engine?
sorry but i don't agree with you on one point....12*** Kms....no way can you call it a new bike, was the bike out of warranty when the engine problem happened?have u followed the run-in period of the bike.. have all the services been done as scheduled? did u think of going to consumer court ? when company doesn't do anything and nobody else is doing anything then why don't you set an example by doing something first and maybe everyone will follow........
As of the bent chesses..please apply for insurance for the repairs...isint this the situation why we have insurance of the bike?
Sorry but not blaming you for anything completely agree to everything except the 12*** thing...RE has to improve its quality...its 20% now and they have to take it to 100%. but if u want a 100% quality bike then please pay 100% premium too!!!!
Thanks for the input. I most humbly accept your points about what Royal enfield is and what it really takes to rightly own one. I sure am new to this machine, in fact, this is my first RE. I had purchased this bike in june 2011. Run in was done as per the books. Proper treatment was given after that but some time after the 3rd service the bike started to give missings( i don't really know how to word it technically). So after that i took the bike to the service centre and explained my situation. The bike was 8 months young at that point. The spark plug was changed. And i was told, "all is good now". Just after a week the problem again cropped up while i was on a short trip to Agra. Again in the SC the same old chores and i was assured again of the same. Then after a month here and there revolving around the same problem, i had a small accident. Which though seemed small but cost me other wise. The chasis thing. The bike was rested in the SC for 47 days.(i did claim insurance but was shocked as to how such a heavily built chasis be bent due to such a small hit) Then there occurred some problem in my visa and i had to leave the country. I returned after 3 months and the bike wouldn't start. That was obvious. Got the local mechanic to start the bike and took it to the SC and the Manager of South Delhi Motors, Mr Kuldeep informed me that there seems to be an engine problem that they suspect and i will have to leave the bike. And after a week on enquiry i was told(it feels so stupid but i actually forgot what exactly he had told me :@ .its been almost 9 months now. ) theres some problem with the engine, its emitting smoke plus engine oil is leaking plus somethig. So lapsed warranty by then. It was estimated that i had to pay around 17,000 for the repair.
About the spark plugs. All of them looked like they were being dumped into a bottle of black paint or something.
12,*** km new! Well i think as far warranty for a product is valid. Its considered new in that respect. Plus i could never imagine a motorcycle having engine issues after one year of purchase.
So may be not so new but not so old to have engine issues and be willing to again invest 17,000. That was unexpect at least from the RE, Or i believed so.
Cosumer court! No comment on that.
All but this i fail to comprehend, "but if u want a 100% quality bike then please pay 100% premium too!!!!" ???

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Lemon is all i have now may be. Its been on the stand for quite sometime now. So long that i have even forgotten the actually problem the bike has. Its close to 6 moths now. Will have to set aside time and money for the repairs soon. Lets hope.Originally posted by BarkhaHi Mizbah, how are you?
If the bike was misfiring then i guess either bad fuel or....u got a lemon (i believe every 10th RE is lemon..maybe i too would too recive a lemon soon)...sorry.....believe me i have heard of worse experience than yours regarding RE. for example mine......had my thunderbird serviced...on the way home the gear and kick fell of.....i was dong 80Kmph. never ever i went to the service centre again. My friends TBTS 13 months old. the starter motor gave up.
As for the " but if u want a 100% quality bike then please pay 100% premium too!!! Do u really think RE can make a bike with 100% quality for Rs170000 ...not me...for this price you need to have your share of problems..niggles,oil leaks, greasy hands.rusted chain.....dont get me wrong.....this why i am buying my 2nd RE.....i already have CBR250..runs butter smooth...but its like buying a toy and playing with it or buying a DIY kit spend 1000 hrs making it looking after it and when you start it....u forget all the pain went into it and u have a smile on ur face.....thats the RE experience......
How is the bike now.....about the black smoke....maybe the gasket blew a seal or the engine was running extremely rich fuel mixture......
Are you planing to part away with it?
you can still go to consumer court.....you can fight your own case ..u don't have to have lawyer for consumer court.((shhh!!!...dont tell anyone..my dad's a lawyer)
if i were in your place ....consumer court or not...i would have set the bike on fire inside the service centre.
About your 100% premium talk, i don't really agree with you. The company has been making good quality bikes for ages. And C500 being its most expensive bike to date(after TB) , so i did have expectations!
Lemon or not C500 is not worth the price paid in terms of quality of the parts. Previously produced bikes were much stronger. Not denying i was pretty impressed by its performance, alas not by its quality.
Consumer court will be a difficult task for me. Not because of any other constraints but time.
Been through few topics on the redressal technique of RE towards its customers and trust me it made me sad as to how the RE's customers loyalty is being taken for granted by the company.
As of my situation, may be i will give another try to this bike. And maybe give it more personal attention

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Ohhh..it happens with RE.. But as its said "intezar ka fal miltha hota h"Originally posted by Barkha
No delivery today...didn't receive TR............shifted to Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The more you will wait the more fun it would be to ride.. Still i know it very well that this wait is killing... When they postponed my bull's delivery they gave the reason that only one classic came while they expected two and next one will come in 1 month. What i did was i called all the officials of RE from chennai to our state's distributers sitting in Gurgaon. They called our city's dealership and requested them to give the bike to me and they will send them another one that very day to deliver it to person who was before me in line. Thus the trick worked

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
Hey lovish ..!!
Ya i know it happens....2011 i booked a TBTS opted out one month before delivery ..got the CBR250 insted. it took 6 months for RE to refund my booking amount of Rs1000, and they got my a/c number wrong. i tore it up...saw the video of tail gunner exhoust....i knew i have to have DS500 this would look awesome on it...
I was ok to wait ...they told me i have to wait 2 months from booking date, then they called me 2days after booking and told that the bike has arrived...i was so happy.......it was on 24/05/2013..its 05/06/2013 today...they showed me the bike....i had the pillion seat installed.....i just cant wait..its like showing a kid a ice-cream and not give her that....i have told them to get everything done by saturday....or else....ill wait...what else i can do.

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 500
I believe they do the rto passing in a lot(group) at least here in Mumbai, what my dealer did was he hired an agent and he is available for twice a week so either on Tuesday or Friday
, I don't know whether it's followed same way all over.
In my case I collected the vehicle on the day when it was unloaded to godown itself. They usually Don't do delivery before registration but he agreed after some maska and asked me to be cautious as it's his responsibility if anything goes wrong and handed me the vehicle on that day itself with insurance papers only.
Later he called me up for passing and it took hardly 2 minutes :P.
You can insist him. (don't forget to unplug speedometer cable and pdi on delivery)
All the best!
