IMP Question to all the SZR owners if you replaced your TVS Tyres!

1. Which tyre are you using?
2. Hows the road grip in rain, wet mud, and dry sandy road?
3. How about on tarmac (like highway) at high speeds, does it wobble?
4. Stopping distance?
5. Cost is imperative, still how much did you pay ?
6. What about the rubber compound? Soft or Hard Rubber?
7. Did your mileage drop?

I think you forgot to read the very first line! I ment those who changed their tyres, Not the TVS one's that come along with the bike. Coz everyone has same feedback, the tyres are okay for riding on ringroad and highway but not in rainy season and I want to change possibly by this month or next depending how much I can set aside for the tyres.

Today my SZ-R completed 1 year. It has been fantastic 1 year for my machine. Total kms one is around 6800 (I know its less ) But loved every ride and kilometer of it.

Initially bought the bike for city commuting but later on came to know I have transport facility for office, ended up using it only for weekend rides.

Long rides done so far:
Pune - Satara - Pune --> 345 kms
Did twice Pune - Mumbai - Pune --> 180 kms one way. (180x4)
Did numerous Lavasa ride on mountainous road.
3-4 monsoon rides.

And today on first year completion day did Pune - Amby Valley (Lonavala) - Pune around 190 kms. Touched 110 kmph again

No matter what people said when I initially got the bike, friends said its a tiny little 150 CC bike, very low power, its Yamaha so it will give low mileage, no use of getting this bike, they even told me I should have gone for Pulsar. But it was my choice, my decision to get this bike and NO REGRETS of owning this machine.

Before first service my bike was a problem bike, speedo meter stopped working, rear drum brake was giving tuk-tuk sound when I used to apply it. There was a noise from front wheel, very hard gear shifting, broken speedo glass. These problems gave much more things to my friends to criticize it, but I didnt care about it. After first service all the problems rectified and fixed by YFS Mumbai, they did a great job with my bike. Till date none of the problem cropped up. Those who criticized my decision of getting this bike later test drove my bike and they were blown away by the low end torque of it.

A wonderful city tool, with equally matched highway qualities. Can cruise 80 kmph without any problem. Ripped her between 70-110 kmph for good 60-70 kms patch between Lonavala and Pune, no sign of giving up.

I strictly followed run-in instruction given by Yamaha, followed it for good 1500 kms with 2 services in between. Used only Yamalube 20W40 mineral oil and I am loving its performance, wont be changing oil to different brand in near future.

My bike is still complete stock no tire change, no head light change etc.

Coming to the part which interest a lot of people, mileage. Maximum I got is 55+ kmpl in City riding, and the minimum I got is 40 kmpl on highway ripping but never less than 40 kmpl.

A side note for the new SZ-R and future SZ-R owner, please please give it a proper run-in if you want to see real color of the bike, thats it!

Hi all,

I got my SZX last month on 28th. The bike is so cooool!!!

I have a question, I was not given the service book by the dealer due to unavailability, they will give it in some days. So I am not sure about the recommendations from Yamaha.
The dealer told me to get the first servicing done by either 1000Km or 1 month, whichever comes first. But I am not using the bike much due to lack of time and get only weekends to ride this...and I think I wont be able to make even 500Km in one month. So, what should I do, get the servicing done in 1 month or wait for a while to run the bike more....Plz suggest..

Doesnt matter if you run less km. You must give the bike for first service within a month. After that its every 3000km/70days as recommended by Yamaha. You will be getting 6 free service coupons in service booklet. You must have collected it on delivery since the booklet is given to dealer along with bike by the company. They may be trying to swindled you by saying there is no book and now if they dont give and say you lost it, and ask you to go for paid services. Please don't hesitate to report Yamaha at 1800-420-1600 (tollfree)
Since you are running the bike more frequently in short trips of less than few km, here you will use max brakes, clutch, accelerator, and almost all parts now need checking,cleaning, adjustment and lubrication. Also those who ride more km, generally stick to top gear and very less brake use, yet so they set a fixed km or number of days for service!

Remember:
1. Irrespective of your service interval always get your chain lubricated and checked for proper movemnt(slack) every 500km, or every month end (this doesn't come under free service, you will need to keep spending about 70rs for lubrication charges every time, I have a chain spray that i use myself at 400-500km interval.). You can also get a service wash done once a month at same time along with checking your battery and keeping the battery topped up for good health. We dont want you with a dead battery since you dont have kicker on this!

We also need Oil and oil filter change at about 2000km(company says 3000km, but the oil doenst actually last that long and its abusing your bike so I stick to 2000km) or 2 months use max, they will also be checking a lot other things like cleaning your brake pads, air filter, battery top up, chain sprocket, clutch, sparkplugs etc this of course will be done in your bike service. But once you finish up all services, make sure to keep giving bike to service every 2000km/2.5months from last service and follow the No.1 advice above to keep your bike in best health.

P.s: I have a friend who keeps changing his Karizma oil every 1000km/1month! Infact my bike went to first service at 600km, second at 1700km. And I was doing run in i.e riding within 30-45kmph till first service, then 40-60kmph till second. Stick to these speeds to give your bike a proper run in.

I ride about 40 KM per day, to and fro to office. not done any long distance expect one which was 120 KM in half day.

My gliding machine hardly gets any rest. expect when I travel out of city. as of I remember till date 3 weeks of complete rest without even starting the bike.
