Its always better to maintain the Bike at the pressure what manual says (+/- 2). Does the bike have adjustable rear shocks ? [Sorry for not knowing this, I do not own a SZ] If so, Go ahead and soften the shocks to avoid bumpy ride and dont reduce your tyre pressure for that sake.Originally posted by lsp2310 View Post
One more thing to fellow SZian, what is the tyre pressure you are all keeping? Manual says we should keep 29 psi for front wheel and 33 psi for rear wheel. I am keeping 28 psi in front and 32 psi in rear, to have less bumpy ride. Again seniors your thoughts on this?
Cheers!

SZ-x is a great bike
I purchased an SZ-X on 3rd March and has covered 700 kms. Wow.. I liked it very much. 5th gear from 30kmph! That was amazing. Commuting inside the town has been like a dream.
I had thought of buying a unicorn. But in our town even bookings were closed.
But I knew yamaha is a reliable brand. I have seen three yamaha bikes perform beyond all expectations.
One was an old YBX which has crossed more than 1.5 lakhs kms before its engine was opened.
Another one that two eyed fazer which was driven roughly for 80000 kms, still running smooth, and with no noise.
Another one a crux, which has clocked 100000 kms without major repairs.
So I decided to go for SZ-X.
I am getting exactly 50kmph mileage now.
Two excellent features are the amazing easiness in handling the bike; the bike feels so weightless and smooth.
Then the riding comfort. My wife is also happy to sit longer distances on the pillion.
I think YAMAHA has done whatever a commuter needs. Without overdoing anything, they have given all features perfectly optimised.
But I have decided to replace the tyres with a better brand, once they wear out.
Great work.. I am loving it.

Also, u said about replacing tyres... i think they are TVS make, aren't they?.. do they feel slippery on wet surface?

Wow you seems to be Yamaha man! Fazer meaning old one or the new one? I am sure its old one.Originally posted by chasejp View PostI purchased an SZ-X on 3rd March and has covered 700 kms. Wow.. Even I called up 3-4 Honda showrooms in Mumbai and they said that the booking for Unicorn and Activa are closed as the waiting period has exceeded 11 months! Outside it was available next day delivery if I pay 10K extra!
Dazzler was available in 1 month, but was never intrested in Dazzler.
I waited then Yamaha launched SZ series but without disc brakes I was disappointed. I again waited and then finally Yamaha Launched SZ with disc and named it as SZ R, without second thought I booked the bike and that too without even taking test ride as I did not know how to ride bike that time. :P
I agree on many things that you mentioned. Riding at 30 kmph on 5th gear is a real pleasure.
Pillion seat is also very comfortable!
As far as mileage is concern I am getting more than 50 kmpl in City condition with 40-50 kmph speed without exceeding 4000 rpm.
I am now shifted to Pune, here the summer hit is pretty high, I am sure I am loosing quite a lot of fuel due to evaporation.
I also dont keep much petrol in the petrol tank as I have fear of it getting stolen. Clocked 935 kms so far. I have not ripped my bike at all, running it as per the manual. I will try high speeds after 1000 kms.
I am also planning to change tyres once this stock tyres worn out, but not now. May be I will go for tubeless tyres.
Anyone changed tyres of SZ?
Cheers!

Thanks Augustine for this informative reply, and Yes SZ do have adjustible rear shocks. I will try to keep the pressure as recommanded and change the rear shock setting as soft.Originally posted by Augustine09 View PostIts always better to maintain the Bike at the pressure what manual says (+/- 2). SZ has got 5 points of shock absorber adjustment, I will try soft.

. But remember to remove the plastic used to cover the seat, and put on regular seat covers.. Now I dont feel any difficulty with the tyre.. But I am expecting something to crop up in the future

You are right! It is the old fazer, 7 years old. mileage i am getting 50 exclusively in town. I am not a hardcore yamaha fan. But I was sure not think beyond, HMSI and YAMAHA, because all that glitter are not gold.Originally posted by lsp2310 View PostWow you seems to be Yamaha man! Fazer meaning old one or the new one? My bike is running on Yamalube 20W40 Mineral oil. And secondly I have been watching FZ-16 Ownership Thread here on xbhp as our beast carries same but detuned engine as FZ-16 and FZ-S, there this topic is discussed to the core, and it is always adviced to use Mineral oil as the parts in the engine settling down to the smoothness in the intial few thousand kms. Fully and Semi Synthetic oil has more lubricating factor in it so engine parts will get more lubrication in that oil and the parts does not get settle the way they have to.Originally posted by Naughty VaIsH View Postwhat engine oil have you all used for the bike ?

And there are 3 types of oils (from what I know and read):
- Mineral
- Semi-Synthetic
- Fully Synthetic
On a personal note I am going to stick to Mineral oil for most of the part.
I hope I answered your query, Seniors anything to add in what I have said?
Cheers!
