      Clocked 1000 Kms

Hi guys. I bought my first bike SZ-R (Black) last month (March 11th) and clocked 1000 kms and going for First service this weekend. As of now I enjoy riding my bike and the low end torque and sound is awesome. I really love the bike. Before reaching 500kms i didn't ride the more than 4k rpm as per manual and I was getting mileage of 49.56 kmpl (Reserve to reserve). Once it crossed 500 kms I cant control myself started riding around 5 to 5.5k rpm and getting mileage around 45kmpl. I hope after second service it will give more mileage around 50kmpl, if I ride the bike around 4k to 5k. I think for the city traffic it is reasonable mileage only. Usually first 1000kms people wont ride more than 50kmph. But in the yamaha manual it has mentioned that ride upto 6k rpm after reaching 500 kms so I thought to open up the engine and started riding in 5k to 5.5k and 60 - 75kmph. Is it advisable? Please give me suggestions what are the things i need to look in first service since this is my first bike and first service I am not very much aware of bike servicing.

Great to see one more SZian! Its good to hear that you are completing 1 K kms on your ride.

As far as fuel economy concern, its all about riding sense that an individual got, you ride it good it will give great mileage figures, but if you rip it apart it will rip apart your pocket.

I would suggest anyone who owns SZ (Any series), ride the bike below 4500 RPM at least for first 1000 kms. I rode my bike under 4500 RPM, and sometimes at 5000-6000 RPM in my bikes first 1000 kms.

While giving it to servicing make sure you ask them to change the oil and oil filter infront of you, its hardly a matter of 20-30 minutes, and then you can leave bike to them for other servicing. Before going for servicing note down all the problems you have seen, be it minutest, dont hesitate to clear your doubt. Note down all the question / problems on piece of paper and make that SVC engineer to understand your problems. After service take a long test ride about a couple of kms, to check if all the problems are rectified and also to check if any new problem popped up. Initially my bike had some glitches. But after first service its no problem at all! Every morning i go out i hit the start button and I am ready to go

I am going to change oil again tomorrow as first oil change was done at 367 kms. (My first service)

Keep posting, and happy & safe riding!

          Cheers!

              Thanks lsp2310

Thanks for giving more useful information. As of now I am hearing "creeech" noise from front disc. Other than that I didn't face any problem. I have never used choke to start my bike. I am using Start button only, even sometimes if its not starting at first attempt, it is getting started in the second attempt. Is it an advisable procedure? Gear shifting is slightly hard but i hope it will be fine after using it more. As per manual I am not at all riding the bike in the same rpm for more time span and I am keep on changing little by little. Riding her in 50kmph and 4k rpm is giving awesome feeling and ask me to ride more and it is cruising all the way. Though I am a big fan of Yamaha, initially I thought to go for Apache RTR160, since I was crazy about the apache design in college days. At one stage I was confused to choose my first bike (SZ-X or Apache or P150 or HH Glamour or Gladiator). But after the launch of SZ-R, all my confusions flied away and I went for my first horse SZ-R !! Being a SZ-Rian , I feel proud!! Cheers!

The sound that you mentioned from front disc is fairly common as it is new, but I would insist you ask and report this while servicing.

About cold start, I use the method given in the manual, using full chock while start and move it back half keep it there for a minute or half, then close the choke let the engine warm up and then ride. Please do not keep choke open for longer time as it will end up in choking the engine with fuel :P

My story of choosing the bike goes quite in your way, I was and still I am a huge fan of Suzuki GS150R, I didnt go for that bike as it was very heavy for a newbee like me, also SVC outlets of Suzuki was also a concern for me. I saw Yamaha launch SZ-X, disappointed to see it disc-less, waited for a bit then I saw picture of newly launched SZ-R, checked the features on the internet, saw disc and tacho on the bike. Without a second thought went and booked bike from Factory outlet in Mumbai.

                Keep posting and ride safe.

                Cheers!

Congrats bro .. well i agree with the same lsp2310 ... report it to your showroom service guys ... well regarding the chock ... i have read an article on that .. if you use it daily it gains more mileage..

Pull the chock for 5sec at your first start of the day .. as it allows to flow fuel into engine and gets ready to start it well .. and runs well .. but if you pull the chock for more time it will flood the engine and damage it .. so be careful and for the first few service let it run as per the manual ..

                  ride safe

Are you interested in increasing the fuel efficiency of your bike?

                    Dear all

Are you interested in increasing the fuel efficiency of your bike?
                    Yes? Then read on...

The mileage of a bike is a critical factor in the buying decision
and also keeping our running costs low. Many of us think that
mileage is just about the cost of fuel, but it is not.

A bike which gives a good mileage compared to other similar bikes
is a sure indication that the health of the bike is well maintained
and the rider is careful enough to get the bike frequently serviced
                    and tuned.

I talked with Sudarshan from Chennai and was surprised to know that
his Hero Honda Karizma R gives a mileage of 41 in the city and 49
in highways. His bike is in perfect health.

To keep the engine healthy all you have to do is, let the engine
warm up before you take it to real performance.

Small engines like that of Splendor NXG and Passion Plus have a
horizontal engine, so as soon as the bike is started, the oil flows
easily into the engine. But bikes with a high bore and stroke find
it difficult to circulate the oil throughout the engine as soon as
                    it is started.

Sudarshan recommends bikers to put the choke, self start the engine
and leave it for 10-15 seconds so that the oil gets heated up and
the luke warn low density oil finds it easy to circulate through
upto the top of the engine.

Do not leave the choke for too long as it would flood the engine
with fuel. Do not open the throttle until it has run for atleast 5
km distance and the engine comes to a normal operating heat range.

If you gun the engine in cold conditions as soon as you start it,
there would not be enough lubrication in the engine and it leads to
more friction which ultimately damages the piston and the engine
and hence your mileage will be low.

If you go to a gym, your coach will ask you to warm up before you
do some heavy lifting and iron pumping... this is just like that.
Your bike is not much different from your body!

Another good tip worth mentioning is to remove the saree guard if
there is no use for it.It reduces dead weight by a few kgs and would
definitely improve the performance of the engine and increase fuel efficiency.

Some basic fuel efficiency tips that you may already know are...

                    1. Switch off your engine during signals with long waiting periods.
                    2. Change your oil according to your manufacturer's
                    recommendations.
                    3. Check your tube's pressure every month... higher pressure than the
recommended value would give you more mileage but less friction and
stability. So keep it to the optimum value.

                    Hope you found it useful!

                    • Some updates from my side:

Completed 1000 kms (Phew! Finally :P). Started increasing the speed of the bike, took it till 70-75 kmph and boy-o-boy it was a superb feeling! No Vibs at all! Did anyone noticed engine firing note change after 5000 RPM? The engine sound changes no grunt, no harsh sound and it really feels great! I simply loved it! Characteristic Yamaha I guess!

I want to go for a long ride to see how my beast handles it, I will do it but after 2nd service.

I would like to have advice from seniors, as my bikes run-in period is over, what will be proper way to ride the bike now. Manual say I can ride my bike normally, but I read people posting here about post run-in period maintain decent speed with burst of 70-80 kmph after few ride of few kilometers to shine the furthest part in piston and cylinder, is it correct? If not what will be proper way?

                      Seniors Please Suggest!

                      Thanks in advance..

P.S. : Please pardon my lack of knowledge in automobile if I used any wrong terminology.

                      • Bybre Disc brake in SZ-R

Hi guys. I noticed that Bybre disc brake is installed in SZ-R. I am wondering how it is installed in a low cost 150cc bike since Bybre is one of the best brake in the world. But it is not mentioned in any of the bike documents(manual, specification) or advertisement. I think very costly bikes only have this brake and I have seen Pulsar 220 with Bybre disc brake in India. How you guys feel about Bybre disc brake in SZ-R? If our disc brake is high quality Bybre, then it is adding more value to the bike and the bike is more worthy for the price and it is the only bike having Bybre in 150CC segment. Cheers!!

Well, thats something new and enlightening! I did not bring my bike today to office, I will surely check the disc as soon as I reach home.

Is there any difference in Bybre Disc and other disc? If yes then what exactly is the difference?
